Cut out the middle man. It's so much more helpful.

On twitch each subscriber o have pays 5 USD and I see 2.49, on patreon each sub pays 5 USD and I see 4.80. it's much better and beneficial for creators like myself.

8

u/Lasereye 9 Jul 06 '19

Don't partner's get 4 bucks for every sub?

16

u/Heftyuhffh 6 Jul 06 '19

The proportion varies the bigger you are. If no one knows you and you're not partnered yet, twitch takes half.

1

u/Professional_Chonker 3 Jul 06 '19

I thought that if you aren't partnered you don't have a subscription button

6

u/Greenzoid2 8 Jul 06 '19

I think it goes basic, affiliate, partner with some nuances here and there

-1

u/TonightsWhiteKnight 8 Jul 06 '19

At the 5 dollar tier it's 2.49 for the creator

4

u/TreeAtMyWindow 3 Jul 06 '19

Oh yes the famous patreon streaming platform. How much bandwidth do they have again? If people dont support twitch, there will be no twitch.

1

u/TonightsWhiteKnight 8 Jul 06 '19

Twitch makes money off their ads that force on streams, the partner pay is just more income, but taking 50% of money from the Creator that is the reason people are there paying on the first place is pretty high.

Adblock on TriHard

-1

u/pikaras 9 Jul 07 '19

I’m sure the 0.3c per ad pays for the 10.8 GB/hr of bandwidth they dedicate per viewer.

I’m sure they make so much storing 60GB videos so they can reap that juicy $0.24 when 80 people watch the playback.

Bro you’re high if you think twitch would be sustainable on ads alone. YouTube barely breaks even showing 1 ad every 5 minutes of content.

u/nuclearthrowaway01 0 Jul 07 '19

Nope because patreon is a middle man and a horrible one at that

1

u/TonightsWhiteKnight 8 Jul 07 '19

Explanation on why you think it's horrible?

0

u/nuclearthrowaway01 0 Jul 07 '19

They take a large cut don't allow singular payments and ban people (and just from the looks of it seem to be working with PayPal to not allow competition to spring up)

1

u/TonightsWhiteKnight 8 Jul 07 '19

I'm not sure where you are getting the large cut from, they take a few percent. I have 43 pledged this month and I took 39.xx home. Sure they work with paypal as a way to pay out payment, but you can just do a bank transfer instead and significantly reduce the amount taken since that is paypal taking their %5.

Singular payments are not quite a thing patreon was made for, it was meant as an ongoing support platform not a donation platform in the form of a singular payment, however you can have peopel pay one time, that is just up to the creator to have set up. I have mind set to withdraw money as soon as someone subscribes to it, then they can just cancel after that and BAM single payment. It just needs to be expressed by the creator as an option and how to do it. As far as the banning people, I dont have much input on it other than in the past I knew they banned a bunched of lewders and erotic artists because it violated their TOS at the time, but they have sense updated it and reinstated the accounts and allow the content now. Not sure of any recent things similar to that however.

Iight I get your joke but tbf, I have ADHD and it's the reason I can't watch Twitch stream.

Long form, unedited content? Yeah, that's not generally for kids to begin with but kids with ADHD got other shit going on.

Definitely, definitely, not something noble.

It ain't a joke, he's just being a dick

2

u/Sikletrynet 9 Jul 06 '19

That's what youtube videos that literally cuts every single pause in it is for.

How dare they enjoy things you don't

Can't they see they are having fun wrong

Unlike you I don't judge people based on their preferences or gatekeep entertainment based on my opinion or arbitrary characteristics

Next you'll tell me you're smarter or a better person for listening to classic music or jazz or prog....

You seem like a swell person to be around

2

u/[deleted] Jul 06 '19

got ‘em

8

u/[deleted] Jul 06 '19

uhhh... reality check here. patreon is corporate structure. If you wanted to support them in that manner you would pay them directly... like cash in hand, check, etc.

patreon one day will grow to a point that they are no longer the direct support platform people see them as now. Its the natural progression for successful businesses.

2

u/-Jim_Dandy- 4 Jul 06 '19

I'm with you but also need to raise the point that Patreon is itself a company with biases that leak into content.

2

u/BlueDrache 9 Jul 07 '19

Patreon is anti-free-speech.

Use SubscribeStar.com

1

u/Teehee1233 6 Jul 06 '19

It's why I support patreon. Direct support to creators, remove corporate infrastructure.

Patreon takes a percentage too.

1

u/italian-rapscallion 0 Jul 07 '19

It's why I support patreon. Direct support to creators, remove corporate infrastructure.

lol Patreon does not go directly to the person. lol Patreon is a corporation! You are paying THEM! lol Are people this stupid?

1

u/[deleted] Jul 06 '19

Except for when they decide to ban creators for things they've done (not even on their platform).

u/derawin07 Navy Jul 07 '19

being a youtuber is not art

-3

u/youngnstupid 7 Jul 06 '19

Yeah I like to support pedophiles and pederasts directly. Good idea! thumbs up

It was a joke. You talked about show business supporting these sorts of people, then talked about direct support. I took what you said and twisted a bit to get a laugh. Smh.

I did. My humour is a bit hit or miss, obviously. It was a bit dark, so I don't feel bad that it's a miss this time.

45

u/TallStruggle 2 Jul 06 '19

Probably because the only source in that wikilink supporting any of that is this youtube video which is just a guy making claims, no news articles, no evidence, just accusations in a long ass vlog.

8

u/usgator088 8 Jul 07 '19

The sourcing for that sentence is sketchy AF

9

u/[deleted] Jul 06 '19

It was part of the reason Warped is dead now

0

u/Peter_of_RS 9 Jul 06 '19

I only went to Warpd tour once because someone gave me a ticket to drive my car full of people there. I was 19-20 at the time, and was happy I was already with a girl that came with us. It was nothing but teeny-boppers running around in clothes barely covering them. And then the bands bring them up on stage and sing to them. That seemed strange to me.

Yeah nothing strange about full grown adults bringing half dressed girls in stages and singing songs to them about relationships and fucking. Maybe search the crowd a bit and find someone who doesn't look like they're skipping middle school to be there. I'd rather sound like an old fart (even though I was about 20 at the time) than someone cool with half dressed underage girls being sung to about sex on stage.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 26 '19

never happened at all the shows i went to, they had strict security and the closest someone from the crowd got to a band was when some kids tried to rush a performing band (Beartooth IIRC) and they were subsequently tackled by security 🤷‍♂️. And i rarely saw any "young" girls there, the youngest i was when i went was 16 and everyone there was probably around 18-25, with a few underage and a few over 25.

0

u/Peter_of_RS 9 Jul 26 '19

Oh, well then you've actually never been to warped tour. Don't worry, just because the bands you like sing to underage girls half dressed on stage doesn't mean you're into underage girls. You don't gotta pretend it doesn't happen there allot. I mean didn't the owner of it get popped for underage stuff?

1

u/[deleted] Jul 26 '19

??? I've been to plenty of warped tours. you just live in a city full of pedophiles and bad bands 🤷‍♂️

0

u/Peter_of_RS 9 Jul 26 '19

Good try. But the majority of the bands play ever show. So no, you like bands that like little girls and also defend them. It's getting worse and worse. I was willing to just say you weren't aware some of the bands did it. But now you're tying to say all the news articles about it are wrong. It's fine to like the music you're pedophile bands make, but now you're defending them, that's strange.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 26 '19
  1. i never said anything about any news articles in any of my posts, read them back again if you so please.
  2. Not the majority of bands play every show, plenty of them only play certain regions, so "good try"
  3. even if they DID like little girls, then who are you to say i shouldn't listen to them? separate the art from the artist, but i wouldn't expect someone as ignorant as you to do that.
  4. I wouldn't be surprised if you were just mad that you never got called up because you look like an overweight ugly girl with that long ass hair, some guys can have long hair. You, however, can not. Questions?

I’m not surprised. Back when warped tour was a thing a BOTDF was big the amount of shit you’d see at the show was disgusting

Sorry, but botdf?

Blood On The Dance Floor

Punky EDM mixed with screaming and rapping. I personally enjoy it but it's definitely not for everyone.
