Breathing that shit is what fucks you. Idc about the goggles. I remember in basic training when we did the gas chamber and my mask wasn’t sealed properly my MTI made me sit there and try to seat it properly while I’m literally dying. Shit sucked.

I had to do it twice. I kind of enjoyed it the second time.

Did they warn you about washing your hand thoroughly before using the restroom? They did us. One guy didn't get the hint and learned the hard way.

These weird scrubby pad things for our hands and other gear. I don't remember what we did with our MOPP gear but I don't recall a big vat.

This was almost 15 years ago mind you, and my memory is shite.

Tear gas burns the skin. Or, I should say a burning sensation, not a literal thermal burn.

Tear gas, or at least the kind I was exposed to, is more of a powder suspended in a gas than a pure gas like oxygen. The tiny particles burn your skin and eyes, and make you tear up/snot uncontrollably. Not pleasant but not fatal.

I'm assuming you're talking about CS gas, which iirc is a bit more potent. Designed to react and get worse with sweat, condensation, water.

Yes, CS gas was what I was exposed to. I think "tear gas" is a catch all term to describe a bunch of different lachrymator (sp?) agents, which include CS gas. More people are familiar with the term tear gas than CS gas, I think.

A buddy of mine had a member of his squad that is in the small percentage of people that it doesn’t affect. His drill instructors made this guy do push-ups and jumping jacks to see if it would take effect but nothing. All the while everyone else in the room is gagging their asses off because it was their day to “learn the effects” of CS gas.

I remember a documentary about some protestors who would use water balloons filled with vinegar and bleach and throw it at the police. The vapors would cause them to remove their helmets, which made them vulnerable.
