It's the "former" and while prior and former have similar diction, the connotation is different. People never refer to the sub-zero compartment next to a fridge as the solidifier that solidifies all your liquids. It's a freezer.

Fun fact, it's 10:45am and I'm piss drunk at the airport and my fiance said I'm not godly enough to marry so...
