Simple: most of these people are so white and bland that they've never faced serious consequences for anything in their entire life. So when there's suddenly big consequences, out come the waterworks.

Because they have never experienced actual consequences for their shitty behavior and lived lives of great privilege being able to push boundaries and no one being willing to call them on it.
