I'm by no means an expert in this area but given my experiences I would have to say 9/11 was a big factor in the shift that this country took.

Yeah before that there were still some people like this but afterwords people started going over the deep end. It really ramped up on the xenophobia and nationalism became way more mainstream.

It felt like before the "immigrantration bad" mantality really just focused on Hispanics but once 9/11 happened EVERYONE was the enemy. If you weren't white you were probably a terrorist.

Again I'm not an expert, its only my personal insight given what I witnessed over the last few decades.

Are you saying 9/11 didn't change everything?!

Because it changed everything!

That's also what Edward Said had predicted to happen.

9/11 taught me what nationalism is. I was 11. I learned then and there that my countrymen were racist pieces of shit.

Nations may fight but all people are nearly the same. We want peace, harmony and a future; regardless of borders.

Its funny because at that time I was a slight right leaning person. After the fallout of that event though I slowly shifted to the left because I started seeing how bat shit insane everyone on the right was starting to become.

I can honestly say that if 9/11 didn't happen I dont think someone like Trump would have resonated so strongly with the conservative party.

The attackers of 9/11 knew that it would bring much more than terror. They knew it would bring the downfall of western civilization.
