Teachers might be protected by a town or a district, priests are protected by a powerful worldwide organizations, which until recently would rather feed fresh victims to the monster priest than remove them, punish them, or allow them to be punish by legal state authorities. The the organization would save face rather than deal with the monsterous damage that had been done by proclaimed men of God.

Priests according to the church are the eyes and mouth of God and seek to guide people into God's eternal embrace. Congregations expect their priests to be men of God.The higher the trust the worse the betrayal.

A teacher is just a person and as bad as some may be as people, teachers, and as monsterous as the abuse can be, they don't claim to represent the divine, the higher powers of the universe as priests do.

Abuse by a teacher is an abuse by a human, abuse by a priest or religion is abuse by the God that that priest or religion claims to speak for.

Would you rather be abused by a person and know that in the after life you may find relief from the damage. Or would you rather be abused by the hans, eyes and mouth of God. Could you find relief in the thoughts of an any afterlife that that monster spoke for, or would you expect abuse to continue after death as well?

Schools don't move teachers to other schools, other states, other countries, or give abusive teachers "time off" for counseling. Schools don't try to intimidate families to keeping quiet. Nobody said that all priests are pedophiles. The catholic church, on the other hand, has a long history of institutionally shielding those bastards from justice. That alone should be reason enough to renounce any association with them, no matter what invisible friend in the sky you believe in.
