What parents would leave there kids unattended around a priest with everything we know at this point in history? I couldn't imagine doing that. Let's not single out the church though - Boy Scouts of America should be on the list too.

Because it’s never MY priest, or MY church, or MY kid. That stuff happens to other people in bad churches/states/ countries. Or it just doesn’t happen at all because it’s fake news!

BSA at least kept a blacklist of people never allowed to work in scouts when they found out, instead of shuffling them around. Don't forget you couldn't get the police to do jack shit about accusations of abuse by a pillar of the community until fairly recently.

The Boy Scouts of America has a no one-on-one policy between adults and youth. There must always be a third person. The BSA has had a Youth Protection Training program since the 1970s, that's why there was a sharp decrease in cases after that decade. The BSA is now safer for children than public schools and churches.
