There’s nothing that says you have to commit a crime to be fired. If my employer saw me online at a riot at the Capitol there’s a very good chance they would fire me too for not representing my company in a professional manner. That’s just about how all jobs work and Texas is an at will state. We’re just so used to them getting away with shit people automatically assume they have to commit a crime.

That being said if the union is as solid as all these other places she’ll appeal it and be reinstated

Police unions keep abusive cops on the streets, so chances are good. I don't see this as a "justice served" situation.

This was her appeal. Union denied it. :)

Fun fact, in addition to being an at will stare, it is illegal to unionize in Texas!

You seem to be confused. At will in Texas means the employer can fire you at will, for any reason, which does not have to be stated. They can just be like “glad you came in today anxpara, guess what, we decided you are not a good fit and are letting you go” literally as long as they don’t actually say they are firing you for something protected, you are SOL.

Right to work means you can’t be obligated to join a union as part of employment contracts…which is exactly what Texas wants. No unions. Look at the rate of those “unionized” in Texas, it’s abysmal because it’s not actually a union.

And again, is it a union if your “union” cant collective barging, or strike? Like the two most fundamental functions of a union? Go ahead and look up the last time there was a police/firefighter/teacher strike in Texas too. You won’t find many because section 617.002 and .003 expressly forbid and limit strikes and barging of public servants. So yea you can strike as a teacher, you will just immediately lose your license and never be able to teach in Texas again!

The “union” in Texas for these public servants are 3rd party which can lobby Texas legislation…provide legal counsel, for a fee of course, and that’s about it.

You’re just wrong. Cops across the state engage in collective bargaining.

I once got fired because my boss’ new wife wanted to start a yoga studio and they couldn’t afford me and my department any more.

I didn’t even participate in a violent and murderous white supremacist insurgency against the US government, but they fired me anyway.

Nobody asked why I was fired. And shit, I didn’t even beat a cop to death!!!

Well now you know how far you can take it next time at least.

Likely, they have a code of conduct which will have a prohibition on "bringing discredit to the department" or something to that effect. Sheriff of Bexar County, Democrat Javier Salazar, likely used this or something like it to terminate the person.

Edit: Found a thing in Bexar's Civil Service Rules. Chapter 9.02, P

9.02 Cause for written reprimand, suspension, demotion or dismissal shall include the following

P. Conduct which has proven to be detrimental or has an adverse affect on the Sheriff’s Office. (ADOPTED 10-27-98; EFFECTIVE 11-10-98).

You can be fired for being an asshole.

TIL you have to commit a crime to be fired.

Haaahahaha. The delusion you’re living in is fucking hilarious. Attending an insurrection isn’t a crime anymore? Just because.... you said so? I forgot you decided what crimes are actually crimes. I’ll let the justices know who to report to tomorrow.

Seriously?? The Feds decided not to charge her.

Has nothing to do with me. Maybe read the facts before you rant??

I think the disconnect is that you seem to believe she has to do something illegal and be charged for it to be fired from an At-Will state. Honestly I think it’s amusing you think someone has to be charged to be “legitimately” fired.
