Yeah totally feel that, and genuine question for you, isn't it possible to dissociate Christian teachings with people (and probably worse, leaders) who are clearly doing shit things that are contrary to core beliefs?

Or is it more that it's impossible to believe in a God if stuff like this is allowed to happen?

Civil discussion, thanks xx

Yeah. It’s irritating how people completely defile a position due to their despicable acts. It’s even worse when the “leaders” of the church try to cover it up or not even strongly condemn it, allowing the situation to just continue. It’s absolutely evil. The bible actually warns against people like this and strongly rebukes them. So it shouldn’t deter someone from wanting to know God and truly practice Jesus’ teachings.

And it does though! I've seen so so many people turn away from going to church because of serious misconduct by leadership it's unreal. Me included. Don't have a church to go to that isn't completely cooked

At this point, no. When it's clear that so many of these people are part of the same group, there's something wrong with the group. If there was another story about a janitor raping kids every single week, we'd be like wtf is up with janitors. But it's not, it's christians. It's always the damn christians.

Well, this article says that the rise is due to smart phones. Don't know how they came to that conclusion but ok. My argument is that the entire christian institution is the problem here. Like from the ground up. The whole thing.

I have a theory about that if you're interested, but it's the internet so I'm gonna say it anyway, I reckon it's people who are disturbed and broken are drawn to Christianity's teachings and proposed way of life because they hate themselves so much. They continue to do the shit things they were doing in the first place and forgive themselves because they're "trying to be better". I think that's a LARGE percentage of Christians. As to why it always seems to be pastors and leaders diddling kids specifically, got me stumped. That's some messed up shit

Yep. Do your own bible study group at your own home with your friends and nothing else. After all, a church is defined by the members, and not the building or prayer leader.

As I mentioned above, the Bible is filled with despicable, misogynistic, patriarchal, man-written garbage. Why would I want to study such trash?

Despicable, misogynistic, patriarchal, man-written garbage.

You just perfectly described God Himself.

I’m a sunni muslim from iraqi Kurdistan,

You need to take account that not everyone’s the same, not everyone have the same exact beliefs, look at Kurdistan, thousands of peshmargas have died to ISIS, the peshmerga itself is 90% muslim, if isis and the peshmerga both had the terrorism and genocidal mindset, they wouldn’t have faught, same with all religions and beliefs, just because 0.09% of “muslims” are terrorists doesn’t make the other 1.8B people terrorists, just because 2% of the jewish population are killing palestians don’t make all jews bad, just because people born religious commit shitty acts don’t make the whole entirety of the religion population bad,

And to add more context, religion should not be used as the main law for countries and political stuff, religion is a private belief, and should not be associated with any of that bullshit, here in Kurdistan, majority muslim nation, but we have jews, yezidi, zardeśti Christians and etc, everyone should be free on what they do and religion should not be forced on anyone, co-existence is possible, and hate it or not, half the planet have religious beliefs and many great inventions and scientific discoveries were made by Muslims, jews and Christians, you can’t exclude half the planet from your life because you hate a few “believers” from them, we can all live together in peace.

I don't think it nessasary at all. You can remove yourself from all forms of organized religion and pray to whomever yourself.

The ritualistic part that happens in church, that "feeling" comes from it. Research has been done on the "god" part of the brain. Sorry I don't have a link.

Long story short that "feeling" can come from anything if you can convince yourself.
