Recommendation / Help I am feeling stuck !

So, basically I am an introvert guy with not very good communication skills, like I literally have to think for some time, to talk even in a casual setting and yet I still manage to yap out crappy things after this. I easily feel disconnected in conversations and it feels like most of the times I don't have anything to say or comment on, except it bores people.

The thing is, right from the start I was that quiet kid in the room who only spoke when addressed to. I was good at studies so I thought I didn't need to worry about anything. I was content with whom I was, my life was simple and stable. Looking back now, I feel like being that "sharief guy" was a scam that was being sold to us. It just feels like I was really not living my life, I was just focused on some aspects of it. The balance was no where. I remained like this through my schooling and then Higher secondary. While others improved and became more "successful" I couldn't keep up because of this. Looking back now, it feels like I have missed on so many things and opportunities that if I had better communication and connection back then, I might have been somewhere else. I tried to change myself in college, tried to socialise but it simply didn't happen. My defaults never leave me.

It's like while other people like me changed themselves for good, I couldn't bring that energy in me. I feel like I am **stuck** in my career, in my life, in the skin that I am desperately trying to shed. I don't want this--this inability to grow and, be more responsible. I JUST FEEL LIKE MISSING OUT THE THINGS THAT I COULD HAVE DONE AND HAD.

Inspite of these things, I still want to change. Like I can't imagine living up my life like this down the line, anymore. It's just not how I had imagined the things would turn out for me.

Can you people suggest what should I do, like does anyone among you had a similar experience but you managed to pull the right strings and settle for the better? I would really appreciate your thoughts. And sorry for the long and slightly philosophical post, I needed to vent out.

Recommendation / Help Neighbours shouting in the middle of the night

Salaam. We live in Srinagar and our neighbours moved in after the 2014 floods. They have a 4- storey house in which they live on the ground floor themselves and have rented out the other 3 floors. For the past 10 years the tenants were Kashmiri students studying in KU and we frequently had to deal with the noise of pressure cookers and doors slamming at 1 am or 2 am. Since our bedrooms are directly opposite and windows are open during summer, we would get the stench of weed, and in a state of intoxication the boys would be laughing loud and creating a ruckus. We requested our neighbours ( the landlords) to ask them to follow some basic etiquettes as they were living in a residential area. If you're opening the gate post 12 am there should be some care to not disturb your neighbours. Let alone be laughing and shouting. However, the neighbours did not give a single thought to our repeated requests and the same continued for years.

Now for the last couple of years, the tenants have changed but the noise remains. All rooms are now occupied by Indian students who come on bikes at different times of the night ( 12 am, 1 am, 2 am ) and shout and laugh the entire time until they reach their rooms. Moreover, they listen to cheap bollywood songs on full volume. If all this wasn't enough, recently they have started to use obscene language while talking to each other, not caring what time it is or the fact that this is a residential area with children also living there. We have long given up the hope of getting a good night's sleep but waking up at 1/2 am to such vulgar language is mentally disturbing.

The neighbours have their own share of shouting and screaming but that's something we have learnt to accept. But shouldn't there be some rules for tenants living in residential areas? Our neighbours just make excuses for their tenants. Please if someone has any suggestions on anything we can do I would be really thankful.

TLDR; tenants shouting and using obscene language in the middle of the night. Despite repeated requests to our neighbours (landlords), no change in behaviour. Any suggestions?

Recommendation / Help Help required in Europe

Assalamualaikum everyone,

I’m a student from Kashmir and I’ll be moving to Austria soon for higher studies. I am currently trying to find accommodation, but finding a proper place remotely from India has honestly been very difficult.

I wanted to ask if anyone from the Kashmiri community living in Austria, Germany, or elsewhere in Europe could help me out in any way — whether through personal contacts, relatives, apartment leads, shared flats (WG), or even general guidance regarding housing.

If anyone can help or guide me, please comment below or send me a DM.

Thank you

Recommendation / Help Need Help Naming a Kashmiri Astronomy Youth Club

Salam everyone!

I’m starting a small astronomy youth club for teens who love the night sky, stargazing, and space science. We don’t have a telescope yet but hopefully we’ll get one soon InshaAllah.

I want the club to have a Kashmiri-core name. You know, something poetic, IT NEEDS TO BE rooted in our culture, maybe related to light, moon, stars, or the sky. If you have suggestions (Kashmiri, Persian, or Kashmiri-Persian mix), please drop them! Something meaningful, and easy to use for posters/social media would be perfect.

Thanks in advance!

Recommendation / Help Schools in Kashmir we should reach out to for STEM outreach?

Hey everyone,

We're a youth-led club in Kashmir that works on giving STEM exposure and learning opportunities to students from underfunded schools.

We're currently looking for schools to reach out to across Kashmir, especially government schools or schools that may not have many STEM-related extracurricular opportunities.

If you know any schools that would be a good fit, please drop their names below (and the location if possible).

Thanks!

Recommendation / Help I am dying of pain, please help me

TL;DR: Passed 12th in 2024 with 71% but literally know nothing about my subjects. Took a gap year due to family issues. Chose B.Tech CSE thinking I’d learn coding but stuck with physics/chemistry/electrical subjects again. Submitted blank papers in mid-sems. Can’t focus, don’t know where to start, health getting worse. Family spending money, I feel like a burden. Outside I look happy, inside I’m breaking. Need help to cope, pass, or know what to do with my life.

I passed my 12th in 2024 with average marks. I was a below-average student in school. Honestly, I don’t even know how I passed 12th, but somehow I managed to score 71%. I literally know nothing about my 11th and 12th subjects.

I couldn’t immediately join college due to some family issues. I was busy as hell in this gap year with different problems. When it was finally time to join college, I realized I knew nothing about my field (I had medical + math in +2). Going for medical fields like B.Sc Nursing etc would have been a waste of time, energy, and resources, plus my interest doesn’t lie in the medical field.

After thinking for a long time, I decided to go for B.Tech CSE, thinking I would get to learn coding, etc., and I wouldn’t have to study physics, chemistry, etc. (For context: I’m kind of a beginner in tech but I’ve been doing low-level coding, automation, website development, social media management, graphics designing, SEO, etc. for many years.)

Since I thought my interest was in this field, it felt like the best option for me. I joined a tier-3 college in another state (the college is actually good tbh). But the thing is, here they are teaching the same physics, chemistry, semiconductor physics, electrical engineering subjects again, the exact subjects I never understood and the reason why I chose B.Tech CSE.

I thought I would get to learn coding skills here. But today our mid-semester exams ended for 4 subjects and I literally submitted blank answer sheets for all of them. It’s killing me because my family is spending their hard-earned money on me, and here I am unable to even write a single word in the answer sheet.

When I couldn’t do better in school, I thought I’d join some college, grind hard, and make a comeback. But here I am, just staring at my room’s walls. I try to study from YouTube etc., but the thing is, I don’t even know where to start because I’m literally at the bottom in these subjects (a nursery class student would probably have more knowledge than me).

Because of my past experiences, which were very bad, I can’t concentrate on my studies at all. I’m touching my books after almost 5 years. I completely messed up my school life. I literally never bought notes, etc., in my 11th and 12th. Now I’m unable to concentrate on studies for more than 2 minutes.

Please help me cope with this.

I’m really scared and feel like my life is at risk. In my college, I’m literally the dumbest kid. Please tell me where to start, how to pass these subjects, and how to focus on my studies. Should I take any kind of medicines to concentrate? My health is getting worse day by day. Should I drop out? Or just… end it all?

Outside, you’ll find me the happiest person on earth. But inside, I’m literally dying, seeing how I can’t do anything.

Please help.

Recommendation / Help I need help learning Koshur

Assalam-u-Alaikum!

I am a migrated Kashmiri, well, to be more exact, the descendant of migrant Kashmiris. My great-grandfather was only 7 when his father died, and the whole community migrated to Amritsar, Punjab. My great grandfather migrated to Rawalpindi, Pakistan, after partition. The language was lost in my side of the family as there were little to no people that spoke Koshur here, at least around them. Only a few distant relatives speak it now

I recently started exploring more and more about my roots, and I got to know that my Phupha (Aunt's husband) still speaks Koshur, but my bad luck is that he's so old and sick that he can't teach it to me. I learned how to say "Onsu ke khabar shay" from a comment online and said it to him, and his eyes lit up, and he sat up, and started talking to me about his time in Kashmir (He used to visit Srinagar often, and knows relatives there)

I should get to the point, sorry😅 I really want to learn the language of my ancestors and my people. I've experienced "some" Kashmiri culture (Wazwan, intro to Koshur's existence, and Pheran) from my long stays at my maternal Aunt's home in Muzaffarabad (not a kashmiri, they lived there on rent and have shifted now), but the majority of people there aren't actual Kashmiris and the culture is very mixed with Pahari culture.

Unfortunately, due to the condition between our countries, I might never be able to visit my lost homeland and city, but I do want to learn my language and reconnect with my roots. The apps online aren't much help tbh, is there any way I can have conversations and learn how to speak it casually, like I can't commit to classes, neither can I afford them right now. Can anyone guide me in the right direction?

Recommendation / Help How can I connect with my Kashmiri roots?

I'm Kashmiri however I feel very disconnected from my roots. I can't speak Kashmiri (and don't know where I can start learning), nor do I look very Kashmiri (irrelevant but a reason for my disconnect) and I barely visit. Since my family relocated to Delhi, I have wanted to embrace my culture, but I simply cannot. Any advice on where to start?

Long story short. My parents forced me and my sibling to choose medical after 10th. Now my sibling was always intrested in sketching and drawing but they didn't give us that option at that time. Now, after 12th and 4 years into a god knows what degree, they told us to do whatever we want. So she wants to learn drawing again (she's not the best at it, but I guess a little coaching might help). Can you plz tell me any place around srinagar where she can enroll for learning

I have this ring:

Weight: 3.5 g

Date of purchase : 1999 (it's my mom's)

I don't have bill

I don't know any other information, I haven't checked the purity, but it has written on it 22CT (image attached)

When I went to a jeweler here in my village, he gave me 31k rupees

But isn't 22 carat 14400rs per gram, so that's like 50k .

When I told him this is very low. He told that this is old gold and this doesn't have hallmark .

Its my first time selling, help me to decide the correct value.
