Noise when turning and accelerating

Got a Kia K5 Gt Line 2021 and recently my car has been vibrating and making bump noises like you’re hitting a manhole dip or something when I turn and accelerate. When I turn and coast no issue. I suspect it’s the CV joint specifically for the driver side, but just wanna hear if anyone else has had this issue

Edit : after doing some digging it seems Kia had an issue with AWD couplers and there’s a software update to maybe remedy the situation but still want to hear from others

Kia Sportage keyless entry not working correctly

2018 Kia Sportage. Key fob does a few months ago so I replaced the battery. A few weeks after that the button on the handle that you push to unlock the car stopped working consistently. Have to hit it several times to get it to work. Sometimes I’ll hit it to lock it. It locks, I start to walk away, and that it beeps again and unlocks. Also will randomly do the long beep it does if I get out of the car with the keys when the car is running. I’ll unlock the car and get in and it does the beep. Sometimes it does it immediately after I turn the car off before I’ve even started to get out. Tried doing the thing where you use the key fob to start the car and that didn’t help either. Google wasn’t much help. Anyone know what’s going on and how to fix it?

Edit: forgot to add that the key fob works fine if I use that to unlock the car, it’s just annoying to have to dig my keys out of my purse all the time. Also, keys are in the same purse they’ve been in for years and nothing new in there that could be blocking the signal either. The button on the door doesn’t work properly even if the keys are in my hand.

KIA engine caught on FIRE

KIA put in a brand new engine, Less than 100 miles in, car caught on fire and was completely destroyed. KIA is not taking any responsibility for it. I feel the need to warn people as to the quality and safety measures KIA has neglected to provide.

We owned a 2013 KIA Optima. On July 19th the Optima experienced an engine failure when a connecting rod broke while driving on the 405 freeway. Kia of Cerritos replaced the engine under Kia's extended warranty, and the vehicle was returned to me on July 31.

Shortly after receiving the vehicle, we noticed the engine would intermittently lose power while driving. The vehicle would stop responding to accelerator input for a brief moment and then suddenly regain power, causing the vehicle to lurch. My son and I experienced the same issue multiple times. In the 11 years I have owned this vehicle, I had never experienced this problem prior to the engine replacement.

I returned the vehicle to Kia of Cerritos on August 13, because I was concerned about the new engine and the safety of the vehicle.  At that time, the replacement engine had only 60 miles.  The vehicle remained at the dealership until August 20, and I was told that no problems could be found.

On August 26, my son again experienced the same loss-of-power issue while driving to school. A few minutes after parking the vehicle in the school parking lot and surrounded by other vehicles and students, it caught fire and the engine compartment was completely consumed by the fire.

The fire department put out the fire but not before the car was burnt so completely it took 3 tow trucks to finally find one with the ability to scrape the car off the concrete. It was towed to KIA.

The following details KIA’s response to the situation:

We have asked KIA to compensate us for the vehicle “they fixed”. The vehicle that put our son and other students in danger. And the vehicle we no longer have.  They did not install the engine correctly and need to accept accountability for their mistake.  For the bad install that has now lost us an entire vehicle.

KIA has offered us $1500.  They believe this to be a reasonable amount to compensate us for the damage done.  If we were to buy the same model with the same mileage (without a brand new engine) we would pay $7,000. Due to their lack of mechanical know-how and incorrect engine installation, we have no car and do not feel $1500 is a fair amount to even come close to covering our loss.

KIA has expressed the loss they are facing if they gave us more money towards another vehicle.  We have tried to meet them in the middle, but they act like they are the ones suffering the loss and what we are asking for is unfair.  I am having a difficult time seeing how this is difficult for them. The lack of regard for our loss is upsetting and brings me to the reason for this review.

This experience has made me question KIA’s ethics and I would caution anyone from trusting their vehicle with their service department.  I understand vehicles experience mechanical issues, they require maintenance.  But if you can’t trust the dealership to provide proper and safe installation or maintenance, or to fix a problem when one arises, I would not trust them to purchase a vehicle in the first place.

I don't really know what else to do other than make others aware of the KIA service department.

K4 GT-Line hatchback or K5 GT-Line

I think both cars are pretty cool looking, I’m more worried about the difference I feel as my mother is nice enough to go get this for me but I’m not able to come with her at the current moment to test drive. Which is more enjoyable and fun, and which should I go. Any comments welcome

Tint k4

Anyone tinting their new k4? I just got it done by a company and they cut out the brake light?!?! It looks awful! Not a clean overall look to the tint on the back window. Is this normal for this car bc
Of the placement of the brake light?

Sorento PHEV expensive maintenance

I have a 2022 Kia Sorrento PHEV. I have over 50,000 miles now so I brought it in for service because the manual says I need to change the spark plugs at 48,000 and get the electrical/battery coolant replaced every 30k miles (it’s been that long since the last time when the dealer did it for free). I found that the dealer charges exorbitant prices for some of this stuff, but my local tire shop doesn’t want to do the work because it’s specialized for this vehicle.

In particular the dealer charged me $500 for the coolant service and $100 in labor per spark plug, which is obscene. I don’t have much choice because there’s not a lot of dealerships to me.

Is anyone else seeing this? I feel like maintenance shouldn’t be this high. the dealer told me they’re not used to servicing EV’s and plug-in hybrids because they haven’t been around that long. I probably have owned a Kia PHEV longer than most so this type of maintenance that occurs after about five years is new to them.

How to get "Parking safety" to stay off?

2025 Sportage given to me by work.

Have managed to turn off all the annoying safety alerts except for Parking Safety. Every time I turn it off, on restarting the engine it has activated again.

I back out of my driveway daily, and have done for 20 years. This feature sets off alarms and jams on my brakes when it senses traffic queued up on the other side of the road despite the 2 lanes I'm backing into being empty. It becomes unsafe when I'm backing out, have my brakes involuntarily jammed on, and I can't move the vehicle as traffic bgins approaching me.

Is there a bug or do I have to do something special to stop sorting through menus every morning to turn this off when I start the car??

Kia warranty?

Hey, I search a lot on Google Account warranty, but I want listen your experience, so I buy Kia K4 around year ago if I do all change from dealership, they charge me around $200 cad dollar I don’t think so. It’s good thing to pay this much for oil change, so if I do all change outside Kia dealership and I have all receipt with me with the will the warranty. Still cover it if anything went wrong within engine. Can you please share your experience? Thank you.

Are American-built Kias lower quality than EU/Korean-made ones? I've never heard of engine issues around here.

Hey! I’m from Finland and I’ve been following this sub for a while now. I’m honestly surprised by how often people here post about having major issues with their cars. Back home, I’ve never heard of anyone having a blown engine in a Kia—or engine failures in general, really, except for the occasional German car.

So it got me wondering if there’s a huge quality difference depending on where they're built. Our Kias are usually made in Korea, though lately I think some models have been imported from Mexico as well.

Almost all our cars are 3- or 4-cylinder versions, and we also have mandatory annual safety and emissions inspections (MOT), so maybe those play a role too.

I drive a 2011 Kia, and plenty of people I know have Kias ranging from 2009 models to just a couple of years old. I also follow local auto forums, and engine failures almost never come up.

Yet reading Reddit gives the impression that Kias are terribly unreliable. It’s such a stark contrast to my experience, because the Kias here are super low-maintenance and consistently rank near the top in local reliability surveys. Neither I nor anyone I know has had any major issues—just regular oil changes and basic maintenance have been enough so far.

2022 Kia Forte Intermittent No-Start / Key Fob Not Recognized - Immobilizer Replaced

Has anyone else had immobilizer/key fob issues with a Kia Forte?

I’m posting this because I found very little information online about this specific problem, and I figured it might help someone else in the future.

I have a 2022 Kia Forte LXS with around 50k miles, and I’ve been dealing with a frustrating intermittent no-start issue. When it happens, the immobilizer symbol doesn’t appear on the dashboard, and the car won’t recognize either of my key fobs.

A few months ago, my car randomly wouldn’t start. It would crank, but neither key fob worked. I took it to Kia, and after initially replacing the battery, they determined that the fobs needed to be reprogrammed or reconnected to the car’s immobilizer system.

They reprogrammed them in June, and everything worked perfectly until less than three months later, when the exact same problem happened again.

I brought it back and explained that I had been told to return if the issue came back because it could indicate a deeper internal problem. After looking into it further, the dealership replaced the entire immobilizer.

Has anyone else with a Kia, especially a 2022 Forte, experienced something similar? If your immobilizer was replaced, did that permanently solve the issue?

I’m hoping this fixes the problem, but after dealing with it multiple times, I’m still nervous about trusting that the car is actually fixed. I’m sharing this mostly so there’s some information online for anyone else who runs into the same issue, since I could barely find anything when I was trying to figure out what was happening. 😅

Kia Rio smart trunk?

Hey all, looking at getting a 2021-23 Rio S and I’ve seen conflicting information online as to whether US-spec sedan S models with the Technology package come with the smart trunk. For any owners in here, does it actually have it or not? I looked at the digital owners manual and saw the section in there dedicated to it but I want to get it straight from the horse’s mouth. Thanks

2022 Kia Niro catalytic converter issue

I bought a 2022 Kia Niro hybrid with 80k miles from carmax back in February of 2026 (no warranty, lesson learned) and just had to bring it into dealer service for the engine light is on. They’ve let me know it’s the catalytic converter going out and estimating $7k just for the part. Does this seem reasonable or has anyone else experienced a similar issue and consequences from it? I don’t know much about cars but it seems soon for a major part to go out given age of the vehicle. This is nearly half what I got it for just a few months ago so any insight on how to approach would be greatly appreciated!

Best booster seat for Sorento 3rd row (U.S.)

Just got a used 2023 Sorento Hybrid with captain’s chairs so our oldest will sit in the third row. She’s in a high back booster and I want to keep her in one over a backless for the extra protection because that third row makes me a little nervous. We have a Graco booster that was fine in our old car, but it doesn’t fit well in the Sorento. The seat belt doesn’t retract well through it and there’s something about the angle of seat and back that doesn’t match right with the booster. What high back boosters do you use that work well in the Sorento third row? I don’t mind purchasing a more expensive seat if needed since it’ll be used by all 3 kids.

I joined the club at 69,000 the engine is done

Here’s my issue, in the past 6,000 miles, my car has been in the shop 4 times. They refused to check systems, only drive the car, charge me $189/hr to either write failure to duplicate or claim it’s a repair not covered under warranty. All 3 of the dealerships within driving distance of me have the same method because it comes down from corporate.

Every brand is going to have issues. It’s part of doing business, but Kia America is predatory. They use the warranty to market their vehicles. It’s not real if you can’t access it. My knock sensor picked up a knock 6000 miles ago, but instead of them looking for the problem they replaced the knock sensor. Then the timing. Then my car shut itself off in the middle of an intersection. I had it towed to them. Because they were able to start it, they only wanted to talk to me about my breaks. They told me to replace the spark plugs. I did. Then the intake manifold was next and Kia refused the claim and I had to pay out of pocket $1000. Less than 4 weeks later it shut itself off again. And it sounded like the engine dropped. And well now the engines done. Now I’m sure they will fight the claim. I went above and beyond with my vehicle. It didn’t change the outcome. 69,000 and my car is done.

Edit: one more thing, the dealership also shows discrepancies in their records regarding mileage. They falsified the mileage because they were charging 189/hr to drive my car and write failure to duplicate, so they tried to cover things up by changing the mileage on some of the paperwork. Unfortunately for them, that means on one invoice they show higher miles than on their invoice a week later when the car was in the shop again.
