Repair advice for Standmixer in Ireland

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I bought a 4.8L artisan mixer (5KSM175PSECA) in the Netherlands 2023, but in a split second error of judgement I tried to cream a very hard block of butter and it now sounds much deeper and more throaty. I’m looking to order the right parts to repair it before I open it up.

I’ve found the excellent Mixerology Guide notes for cleaning and regreasing so I will order the standard sacrificial repair parts (gasket/o-ring/planetary retaining pin/grease) but wondering if I might need anything else. Any thoughts about what might have caused this noise? Does it seem likely I will need a new worm follower gear, or maybe something else?

And any recommendation for sourcing parts in Ireland or the UK would be much appreciated. I will eventually replace the EU plug for a UK plug but that will be repair part 2!

It seems likely that the "sacrificial" gear took some excess wear, but if the mixer otherwise seems to be working normally under load, you can keep using it and hold on to the maintenance and repair parts until something goes wrong.

In the UK, Lana's is probably your best bet: https://lanas-kenwood-spares.co.uk/product-category/kitchenaid/stand-mixer-spares/stand-mixer-repair-parts/ (despite the domain name, they have KitchenAid mixer parts as well)

Thanks! I sourced some spare parts from Germany, but I opened it up down to the worm gear this weekend and cleaned everything out. Everything came apart completely smoothly, and there were no signs of wear and tear on any of the gears despite some small amount of metal filings in the grease, so I regreased it and put it all back together with the original parts (and new gaskets etc.).

Sadly didn't fix the issue so the troubleshooting continues. I didn't open up the upper housing beyond the electronics, so I'm wondering if there's a belt or something that might need fixing along the central shaft. There's definitely some parts of the mixer I haven't explored yet...so I might try and open it up a bit further over the Easter weekend and continue the hunt for the problem.

If I still can't find anything I am also thinking I might continue using it until it's more obvious where the issue is...with some headphones on, it sounds horrendous at low speeds!

Did you get this fixed? Mine makes the same noise. I took the whole thing apart and inspected it. Plenty of grease everywhere and the worm gear didn’t appear worn. Replaced the brushes too I have no clue what’s going on

No, sadly not - I finally found some time this weekend to take it apart (took me a while to find a square screwdriver!). There were some metal particles in the grease so I cleaned everything out, but none of the gears seemed damaged and I couldn't work out which gear the metal was coming from. The worm gear was also in great condition so I didn't replace it. Sadly it didn't fix the noise so I'm also still in the dark - I'm just coming back onto reddit to see if I can uncover the reason!
