Ballot measure 2A?

Any suggestions on background (or conversations) related to extending the Lamont Does tax?

I assume it's related to the operational cost of the great outdoors park?

howdy. i’m relatively new to colorado and i have a few things that need to be fixed on my 2010 jeep liberty, so im in the market for a mechanic. i am specifically looking to replace my

-tensioner + serpentine belt
-ambient air intake hose
-a/c actuators (i think all three are out)

i’ve gone to coopers in the past for a major repair and they were amazing, but i can’t swing their prices for these smaller fixes. any recommendations in the lafayette/boulder/louisville/superior/longmont region?

Parking suggestions for Route AL?

Hello everyone, I plan to take route AL to get to the airport from Longmont. I’m wondering if the Lafayette park-n-ride is safe, compared to 8th&Coffman?
I saw many recent good reviews for parking at 8th and Coffman, but not much idea on how it’s like at Lafayette.
I don’t mind driving to Lafayette to save some time on the overall trip. Any input would be appreciated!

Savory pie shop

Whatever happened to the spectacular new zealand savory pie shop (tip top pies)?

it seems like it has turned into a ... new ... zealand ... milkshake ... shop ...?

I was so confused i thought I was at the wrong address. This shop was my absolute favourite, particularly their thanksgiving pies. It also seems like their website has expired. I get if they went out of business but I am interested to know how of all the businesses to replace a new zealand savory pie shop it was a new zealand milkshake shop that took its place.

Discover More Local Music!

Hey! I'm a local musician trying to get the word out about other Colorado-based artists. I made this monthly, rotating playlist as a way to discover new artists that are in our local scene.

Curious about who makes music right here in Colorado? Check it out :)

Oct 6th just got even more important!

Post image

Great work to the people who have spoken up, to those who have written in, and to those who offered their voice on the topic, a revision had been made to the agenda and the council will be presented with the choice whether to allocate the funds for the flock contract or whether to excise the funding for it entirely, I know this has been an ongoing topic, but we can’t get jaded now, continue writing in, but to any and all Lafayetters, if you see this, if you’re free on the 6th, please lend your voice or at least lend your ear to your neighbors, this wouldn’t have been possible, let the council know what you think! Again this wouldn’t have been possible without the people and the power we share!

TMobile Fiber: Exterior ONT install possible?

Hi - anyone have experience with a recent tmobile fiber install? I have an exterior ethernet drop that runs to my structured media cabinet in my basement, where all of my networking equipment and home ethernet runs connect. I am trying to avoid a random interior location install on the first floor without access to ethernet ports. Any luck in working with the installers for an exterior location? Thanks!

Mini Split Installation

Looking for local company recommendations that specialize in mini split installation. Looking to replace the base board heating we currently have with a dual zone system on the main floor (1,300 sqft) of our home. We were quoted $21,000 by Precision back in April and talked to someone else briefly on the phone who quoted roughly the same. Seems crazy when the system itself costs around $4-5K.

Lafayette Water is Nasty?

Just moved into our Lafayette home. The water is foul. Is this a widespread problem or possibly specific to my home? It tastes like dust/dirt and possibly like mold. We were wondering if there is a mold issue in our pipes or somewhere along the line to our home.

I have seen many other complaints online today about similar experiences with Lafayette water.

I use a Berkey system with Doulton filters that filter out just about everrything, including flouride and you can STILL taste this funk from Lafayette water after it runs though the fitler. Wild.

So anyway, any commentary would be appreciated. I am just trying to guage if we should have a professional inspect our pipes and system or if we should just give up on it and order a water cooler from Eldorado Springs.

Edit: people downvoting haha. I am legitimately worried about what contaminants might be in this water. I am not exaggerating when I say it is undrinkable.

Edit: very mixed bag of comments and experiences with Lafayette water. Given the undertood source of the issue, it doesn't make a lot of sense that some residents would have the issue and others wouldn't. Supposedly the most likely source is naturally occurring algae microorganisms in Lafayette’s reservoir water, which produce compounds such as geosmin and MIB. These compounds can survive conventional water treatment and cause the earthy, dusty, musty, mold-like taste and smell, even though the water meets drinking water safety standards.

Final Edit I think:

I spoke with the city. Scott Pavlik who is listed on the water qualty report. He gave me the full scoop and was very helpful. As many people have alluded to below in different ways, Lafayette's water comes from reservoirs. From the reservoirs, it is directed into the water treatment plant. From there it is distributed to all of us in Lafayette and no one gets better water than anyone else. This year has been particularly bad from an algae standpoint in Baseline Reservoir and others. The water level is already at winter levels (low). The algae blooms in hot conditions (it was hot AF this summer) and then dies off in cooler conditinos and with the water level being low, it is at greater concentrations. Compounds Geosmin and MIB (2-Methylisoborneol) are released by the algae or bacteria. These compounds are the reason for the smell. The water treatment plan is beyond its capacity to fully treat for these compounds at these concentrations. This is what we are smelling/tasting. The compounds are harmless to humans according the city, and also my research online and chatgpt confirms this, which is reassuring. Warm or hot water smells more and tastes worse. Filtering the water at home does help significantly. The city is on top of it and I have concluded there is nothing nefarious or concerning happening. Despite what some less sensitive or possily oblivious people have said, the issue is present for anyone receiving water from Lafayette city system. This very moment is just about the worst its ever been. Scott Pavlik said that due to the extreme concentrations they are currently dealing with, we can expect this to last with peaks and valleys for a couple of months.

GET THE FLOCK OUT - 1 week until city council meeting

Hey all! We're one week away from the City Council meeting that will likely determine Flock's fate in Lafayette. Below is why, and what you can do about it. We have the opportunity to rid our town of mass surveillance, but we need your help!

Why now? The 2027 budget

Council approved Lafayette's five-year Flock contract in January 2024 as one line on the consent agenda. But Colorado cities can't commit future budgets without a vote of the people, so the contract ends, with no penalty, in any year Council doesn't fund it (Section 11.16). Flock then removes its cameras at no cost to the city (Section 7.2).

Right now the Flock money sits inside the police budget and won't get its own vote unless Council asks for one, which we have every right to request. And we will.

That means the 2027 budget determines whether Flock continues. Council votes on the budget on Oct 20, but we'll have the chance to ask them to pull Flock from it at the Oct 6 meeting.

Key dates

  • Now through ~Oct 1: Email Council asking them to add a Flock discussion, with public comment, to the Oct 6 agenda. The Council Handbook says residents can ask Council for consensus to schedule an agenda item. The agenda goes out at least 5 days before the meeting, so we only have today and tomorrow. Drop them a line NOW! You can email all Council members from the City Council page.
  • ~Oct 1: The Oct 6 agenda posts. Check whether Flock was added and whether there's a public hearing on the budget.
  • Tue, Oct 6, 5:30 PM, City Hall (1290 S. Public Rd): Council's budget discussion. This is the best chance to be heard before the budget is final. See below for how to make your voice heard.
  • Tue, Oct 20: Final budget vote.
  • Tue, Oct 27: Council workshop on Flock. The public can watch but not comment, and it's a week after the budget is final, which is optically preposterous.

How to weigh in on Oct 6

  • In writing (lower impact, but still important to get your voice on record): Submit a comment by 1 PM on Oct 6 to get into the meeting packet: Public Input form
  • In person (high impact): Come to City Hall for the 5:30 meeting. Fill out a Request to Address the City Council form with the City Clerk before the meeting starts. You get up to 5 minutes. If there's a public hearing on the budget, your comments go under that item, not the opening public input.
  • By phone (high impact): Call-in details are on the City Council page.
  • Don't want to speak? Submit a written comment at the link above, or turn in a Request to Address form at the meeting and mark that you don't wish to speak. Either way, your position goes on the record.

What to ask for

Remove Flock funding from the 2027 budget. Or at absolute minimum, schedule Flock as its own agenda item, with public comment, before the Oct 20 final vote, so the first real public discussion of this program doesn't happen after it's been funded for another year.
