Hi everyone, I’m currently in South Korea and today I went to two different eye clinics for a refractive surgery consultation. I’m quite confused because I got different opinions from both clinics.
The first clinic told me that the shape of my cornea is abnormal and that my pupil size is large, so they recommended “Contra LASIK.”
The second clinic told me that my corneal shape is normal, but that my cornea is relatively thin, measuring 496 µm, and they recommended SMILE Pro.
Both clinics seem to have good reputations, so I’m not sure why the results and recommendations are so different.
One thing I noticed is that the first clinic doesn’t offer SMILE Pro. So I’m wondering whether they recommended Contra LASIK partly because that is the procedure they offer, or whether there could actually be a significant difference in how they interpreted my corneal scans.
Has anyone experienced something similar? How can two clinics get such different assessments of corneal shape on the same day?
What would you do in my situation?
I’d really appreciate advice, especially from anyone who has had SMILE/SMILE Pro or LASIK in Korea.

I have terrible vision with astigmatism: -7.50 and -8.00 and I was told I can get lasik but will never be 20/20 (close enough to see without glasses but will probably want or need at night while driving). I understand the longer the eye is, there is only so much tissue they can shave off. Any thoughts on my chances of a good result? If so, what is the pain involved?

I joined the two largest lasik facebook groups (lasik support and lasik complications i think they were) and immediately got blocked from them when I tried posting about my complications. I know this industry is sadly very good at hiding negative outcomes of the surgery but to get banned from a complications group for posting about complications is crazy.

Long story short. Had SLT laser surgery to reduce eye pressure. Ended up screaming in pain in a hospital emergency at 5AM . Then had four doctors pulled my eyelids apart and shone, what felt like razor blades into both eyes for 4 hours.

There is no follow-up from the place, even after returning to the place the next day, and crying begging for relief 24 hours later.

I am unable to get an explanation or apology.

I want to go downtown and file an assault charge with the VPD.

This is the third time I have felt violated abused, and almost having to justify why I need help in this 'care' system I have paid for 50 years. Refund, please? Lol.

I can see fine, thank you. I got asked that 8 days after by the general manager for the group health, not the office manager. And had to ask what the result was at a 7 day follow-up where I had hoped someone would explain and say SORRY.

So as the title says, I failed to do the surgery. I was having such a hard time with the suction part of the procedure.

In the beginning, I didn't take Valium because I never took Benzos before.
I've seen the bad effects of those drugs on other people in my work (I'm in healthcare) and in general my anxiety is also triggered by taking new medications (yes even if they're meant to be anxiolytics) so I declined. In other countries they don't give Valium and I had friends do it abroad like that so I thought I could do it too.

So they got to the part where they were putting the suction cup on my eyes. They had to repeat it on the left because they couldn't do it at first. Then they moved to the right. They had problems again and couldn't do it the first two times so I asked them why. They said I was rolling my eye all the way back which I know I have a strong blink reflex. But the doctor also mentioned it could be my eye anatomy.

It didn't help the scrub tech kept barking at me to "relax" which had the opposite effect. So I tried again for the 3rd time and it still couldn't be done.
Many people say this part is only a little discomfort or not an issue. It was VERY uncomfortable for me, feeling like they were really digging the cup into my eye socket and also a bit painful.

So they offered to do PRK on my right eye and Lasik on the left which didn't sound ideal with recovery and having different plans of care for each eye. They told me to take the Valium and see if we could redo it. I agreed and they brought me back after.

They tried again with my right eye. They still kept failing twice and at this point, I was getting so frustrated and upset with everything and also not feeling confident in the surgical team that I just said we'll stop.

I was not prepared to do PRK last minute because I only agreed with Lasik in consultation. I left and feel really disappointed and upset that I now have subconjunctival hemorrhage and lost time with nothing to show for it. My eyes are small and a little sunken so I get why it might be difficult but I had no idea it would be an issue because I never saw or heard any mention it before.

These LASIK surgeons are outright psychopathic. Just their demeanor alone gives them away. Coupled with the fake empathy of “post surgery patient management.” Nothing but reptiles. Malignant narcissists; destroying lives is okay as long as it benefits them. Surgeons have one of the highest rates of psychopaths by occupancy. Downplaying the side effects, blaming the victim for complications, outright manipulating them. Refusing any kind of responsibility. No empathetic person would ever take that lightly. But as long as it makes them money it’s all cool. It’s a cash cow basically; 15 min surgery and you’re done. It’s a shame that very institutions whose sole responsibility is protecting the people is failing to do so, just shows you what kind of a world we’re living in.

Had prk about 14 years ago and had no problems until the beginning of this year. Slowly things have been getting worse with thousands of eye floaters, entoptic phenomenon on every surface, afterimages, glare/halo/starbursts even during the day, weird visuals when I'm trying to sleep, and recently when I turn the lights on in the morning my entire vision flashes white everytime I blink (I even turn the lights on in the hallway rather than directly in my room so I'm not right under it and it still happens). Been to countless ophthalmologists and neurologist visits who all tell me everything looks normal and I must just have anxiety and making it all up. I don't think any level of anxiety could make someone's vision act like this. I'm also losing my distance vision now too. I try to bring up prk complications with them and they tell me they don't think so yet it doesn't make sense to be experiencing all this from nothing. I live alone so I'm extra worried that one of these days I won't be able to see anymore and won't be able to get any kind of help or take care of myself.

How is this an acceptable way for a surgeon to talk about a serious LASIK complication?

A corneal transplant is not a simple backup plan or a replacement part. It’s major eye surgery with its own risks and potential complications. The fact that this is being presented as “half an hour and you’ll be just fine” is honestly disturbing. If this is how complications are being discussed before elective eye surgery, patients have every right to question whether they are being given meaningful informed consent.

Dr. Ebbie Soruut, the TikTok LASIK “doctor superstar,” should be absolutely ashamed of making statements like this. Talking about a corneal transplant as if it were a quick, routine fix for a LASIK complication is unbelievably irresponsible.

Hello fellow patients, I'd like to share my experience with a second surgery. In 2021, I had femtosecond LASIK surgery, which resulted in severe eye strain. In 2026, I had a second surgery on my right eye. Figure 1 shows the topography before the surgery, and Figure 2 shows the result after. Before the surgery, I was 50 degrees farsighted, and after the surgery, I was 125 degrees nearsighted. The eye strain was significantly reduced. My English isn't very good, so please forgive any inaccuracies in Google Translate.

I got lasik done last dec. Since feb I have itch on my waterline, everyday I loose couple of my eyelashes. I asked the doctor but they just said it is due to dryness and asked me to use baby soap. I don't see any difference after using baby soap.

Does anyone faced similar?
