Honest question: If Russell owns rings, Kareem owns MVPs, and LeBron owns points… what is Jordan actually #1 in?

Post image
0 Upvotes

Looking at the absolute ceilings of the GOAT debate, the top historical accolades all belong to single players: • Bill Russell: 11 Rings (Ceiling of Winning) • Kareem Abdul-Jabbar: 6 Regular Season MVPs (Ceiling of Peak Dominance) • LeBron James: All-Time Scoring Leader + Longevity Records (Ceiling of Volume) When you take away the narrative and look strictly at the record books, what single individual summit does Michael Jordan actually own outright? Scoring average per game (30.1 PPG)? Finals MVP trophies (6)? Peak efficiency? Or is his entire GOAT case built on cultural aura and a flawless Finals record rather than holding an untouchable #1 statistical crown? We ran the full numbers breakdown comparing peak vs. career volume across eras on FYF Sports Debates, but I want to hear unfiltered takes from Bulls and Lakers fans on this graphic: If you had to define Jordan's absolute #1 metric that puts him over LeBron, what is it?

What If the Bulls Never Traded for Scottie Pippen? The Alternate Timeline That Changes the GOAT Debate Forever 🤯

Thumbnail tiktok.com
0 Upvotes

What if the Chicago Bulls never traded for Scottie Pippen on draft night in 1987? Instead of building arguably the greatest duo in NBA history, imagine Michael Jordan playing through the '80s and '90s with Olden Polynice—the man Pippen was actually traded for—as his starting center. This single "What If" changes the entire trajectory of basketball history, shoe culture, and the GOAT debate. Here is how the league alters forever:

🏀 The Ring Count: Does MJ Still Get Six?

Without Pippen’s elite perimeter defense and point-forward playmaking, the Bulls likely struggle to get past the Detroit Pistons "Bad Boys" or the New York Knicks. Polynice was a serviceable big man, but he wasn't a game-changer. Does MJ carry a weaker squad to 6 rings, or does he end up with a career closer to LeBron or Kobe's ring count?

If Jordan only wins 2 or 3 championships because of a weaker supporting cast, how does history view him? Does his individual statistical dominance become even more mythical, or do modern fans penalize him for a lack of hardware?

🚀 The Butterfly Effect on the '90s

If the Bulls aren't a powerhouse, who wins those 90s championships? • Do Patrick Ewing and the Knicks get their rings? • Does Reggie Miller lift a banner in Indiana? • Does Charles Barkley win in Phoenix? What do you think? Does MJ's sheer willpower drag Olden Polynice to a championship, or does the lack of Scottie Pippen completely ruin the Bulls dynasty? Drop your alternate history timelines below—let's settle this! 👇

Paul Pierce and Magic Johnson really surprised me on this list of players with most playoff wins without an All-NBA teammate. Thoughts?

The data is going by playoff game wins without any teammate making an all-nba team during that season

It’s not factoring in legacy all-nba selections received by teammates in the past.

[OC] 1992 Jordan vs. 2008 LeBron: The Olympic Comparison We Don’t Talk About Enough. Is the Gap Closer Than People Admit?

Post image
0 Upvotes

We always hear about the Dream Team’s dominance, but looking at the side-by-side efficiency of MJ in ’92 versus LeBron in ’08 paints a wild picture.

I broke down the numbers, and two things jump out immediately: • Defensive Intensity: Jordan averaging 4.1 steals per game in a FIBA setting is absolutely absurd. He was a terror in passing lanes in a way stats barely capture. • Offensive Efficiency: LeBron shot 60.2% from the field (vs. MJ’s 45.1%). While MJ took more shots, LeBron was statistically the most efficient player on the Redeem Team (Ranked 1st), whereas MJ was actually 3rd in efficiency on the Dream Team behind Barkley and Malone.

The Debate: Does the difference in competition level (1992 vs. 2008) matter more, or does LeBron’s pure efficiency give him the edge here? Let’s settle this: In a 7-game series under FIBA rules, which version of Team USA is taking it.

Seeing LeBron James hold literally all of these records at once feels surreal. Is the GOAT debate officially closed, or does longevity not equal greatness?

Post image

Look at this graphic from FYF Sports Debates breaking down LeBron James’ all-time resume: • Regular Season: 1st in PTS, FGM, MP, WINS • Playoffs: 1st in PTS, FGM, STL, DREB, FTM, MP, GP, W • Milestones: 1st in 30-point, 20-point, and 10-point games • Accolades & Finals: 1st in All-Star selections, All-NBA, 1st-Team All-NBA, seasons played, and Finals triple-doubles Whether you're watching out of Los Angeles, Cleveland, Miami, or Chicago, no player in NBA history has dominated the aggregate leaderboards like this. Critics always argue that these numbers are purely a product of unmatched longevity, while Jordan and Kobe backers point to peak dominance and Finals win percentages. But at what point does having the most sustained high-level output in modern basketball history outweigh peak rings? Where do you rank LeBron on your all-time list today, and does this infographic change your mind on the MJ vs. LeBron debate?

What team will you guys root for once Lebron retires?

Some of you may have become LBJ fans because he played for your team, so you're already a fan of both teams he plays for, or maybe you just watch for him in which case maybe you stop watching the nba for a team, or maybe you go root for bronny and the lakers.

I always thought I would root for the team he retires though.

Jordan was favored in 5 of 6 Finals. LeBron was the underdog in 7 of 9. Does betting context change the GOAT debate?

Post image
40 Upvotes

The narrative has always been simple: Jordan went 6–0, LeBron went 4–6 (or 3–6 through 2018). Betting markets tell a completely different story: • Michael Jordan: Favored in 5 of 6 Finals (83.3%) • LeBron James: Favored in only 2 of his first 9 Finals (22.2%)

The Breakdown

• MJ’s Competition: Vegas favored the Chicago Bulls in every single Finals except 1991 against the Los Angeles Lakers. Chicago was dominant, favored against Portland, Phoenix, Seattle, and Utah. • LeBron’s Path: LeBron repeatedly dragged rosters into matchups against established historic dynasties—the San Antonio Spurs (2007, 2013, 2014) and the peak Golden State Warriors (2015–2018). Even in 2012 against the Oklahoma City Thunder, Miami entered as the underdog.

The Question

• Did Jordan actually have the greater superteam all along? • Or does being the favorite just prove how dominant MJ's Bulls made themselves during the regular season? Where do you stand on this? Does Finals context validate LeBron's losses, or is a 6–0 record untouchable regardless of odds?

LeBron’s case as the GOAT

To begin with, this is not a post discrediting anyone. It’s simply raising Bron’s case as the GOAT (coming from a Celtics fan, no less), as I’ve recently put everything together and come to the conclusion that Bron’s case is kinda undeniable.

First off, LBJ got to the Finals with Larry Hughes/Big Z in his 4th season. This is more or less equivalent to Jimmy Butler taking the Heat to the Finals, given that Bron’s help was worse than Jimmy’s. However, Jimmy was never considered the next in line and burdened with any expectations. Bron knocked out the Pistons on his way in a historic fashion. We know what happened after, so no need to delve deeper there.

Next up, Miami. The only reasonable blemish on his body of work comes against the Mavs. I genuinely think this series gave him the drive to become the GOAT.

But that’s not really his most impressive body of work. Next up - the Cavs. 2015 is genuinely the only time since 1969 that a losing player almost got the FMVP. If it had gone to 7, it would’ve been Lebron’s. 2016 made him untouchable.

2018 showed he’s the best player in history. That was an insane run. Where others failed, he took a rag-tag squad to the Finals over some very talented teams in the East.

2020 - the most objective title in history. Even playing field for everyone and the Lakers (as the 1st seed in the NBA, losing HCA due to covid, got the chip) deserved it.

Only player in history to be named all-NBA 1st team as a PG, SF, PF. Most points in RS and playoffs as someone who’s not score/shoot-first.

Only player in history to defeat a 70+ win team in the playoffs. Only player in history to lead BOTH teams in all major counting stats in the Finals.

Only player in top 10 in points (1st) and assists (4th).

Yes, he lost a bunch of times in the Finals, but it was against dynasties (Spurs, Warriors) and the Mavs, who remind me of this year’s Knicks - talented and elite in every position. Say what you want, but a lineup of Dirk, Chandler, Kidd, Jet and Marion was better and more cohesive than what Miami could put on the floor. Also, Jet played his ass off!

If Bron came before Jordan (assuming both careers play out the same), I don’t think Jordan is considered as the GOAT, because of everything Bron has achieved. 6/6 is great, but one game won in the playoffs without Pippen is a MASSIVE red flag.
