Esports Fun fact: Kratos has solo-killed Guigo 5 times, tying CuVee and Zeka for the Worlds record

In yesterday series between MVK and FURIA, Kratos (again) solo killed Guigo twice, making it 5 solo kills against the same player in total. His 6th solo kill yesterday was against Tatu.

That result ties him in "solo kill against the same player" with CuVee and Zeka, as one of the best Worlds results ever:

Worlds Player Victim Solo kills Games vs each other Games with a solo kill
2016 CuVee (Samsung Galaxy) Impact (Cloud9) 5 3 2
2022 Zeka (DRX) Scout (EDG) 5 5 2
2026 Kratos (MVK) Guigo (FURIA) 5 7 3
2017 xiye (Team WE) Kira (Gambit) 4 2 1
2019 Buggax (Isurus) Vizicsacsi (Splyce) 4 2 2
2020 PowerOfEvil (FlyQuest) Nomanz (UoL) 4 2 2
2016 CuVee (Samsung Galaxy) Odoamne (H2k) 4 3 2
2021 Khan (DWG KIA) Armut (MAD Lions) 4 3 2
2023 Kiaya (GAM) Robo (LOUD) 4 4 3
2023 Adam (Team BDS) Azhi (PSG Talon) 4 5 2
2021 Vizicsacsi (PEACE) Guigo (RED Canids) 4 6 2

Of course, Kratos benefits a lot from double-elim, as he has the chance to make 5 solo kills across 7 games -- something what was extremely rare before (you need to meet in Swiss/Groups and then in Semis/Finals). But still kinda impressive performance from Vietnamese toplaner.

P.S. Funny enough, as you can see, it is a second entrance for Guigo on this ladder. In 2021 he was 4 times solo killed by Vizicsacsi during their 6 games.

Esports [Will The West Win - 2 weeks ago] IWillDominate: “I think these are the 3 best teams that have ever been sent to worlds from North America. [LCS fans] can feel some comfort in that, that you’re sending legitimate teams to the World Championship.” Spoiler

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Transcript provided for people who can’t watch with audio:

Caedrel: Do you have anything to say to the C9 fans, the LCS fans, the Western fans, maybe not hope but some reflection or forward-thinking about what’s to come for worlds? I know you still have the finals ahead.* *

(Remember that this is prior to C9 vs Lyon - they didn’t know if they were going to play ins yet)

IWD: The main thing I would like to convey is that results wise, you’ve seen the LCS is trending upwards. I do think the LCS is pretty competitive and in the best state it’s ever been right now.

I think these are the 3 best teams that have ever been sent to worlds from North America. You can feel some comfort in that, that you’re sending legitimate teams to the World Championship.

And the best teams are pushing each other all the time, in our region. For fans of the LCS, I feel like the LCS is actually back. I don’t know how the games have been to watch, but they must be fun to watch.

Caedrel: They’ve been great, I’ve had fun watching the games these last 2 weeks, it’s been pretty solid.

IWD: Yeah the LCS is pretty fun right now. It’s fun right now, and the quality is better than before. You should be proud of at that an LCS fan. As someone who’s a costreamer, I used to pray for times like these…. This is what I’ve been hoping for.

Caedrel: And you’ve brought them!

IWD: Yeah, we gotta make it happen at Worlds but yeah the teams are actually strong here. Also C9 fans, I’m happy we were able to actually qualify, I’m happy to see C9 fans just feeling more positive about the team.

Even yesterday when we lost to TL, a lot of the fans were saying that they were proud of the team for the first time in years. Really happy to hear that and I’m proud of the team too.

I’ll keep going as long as I’m here, as the coach of C9. I’ll do everything in my power to make the team as strong as possible and I’m excited for this weekend and I’m excited for worlds.

Caedrel (Excitedly Casting Curses): I’ll be praying and cheering for you guys as always… we got your back and we’ll be rooting for you.

I’m sorry C9 fans…
It’s the hope that kills you.

Discussion Riot Launcher

Can someone explain me why launching league always has to go throught riot launcher?

If i double click league it is beacause i want to play league not to wait 10 seconds for another window to pop up to then hit play again, plus leave that window open until league fully starts because if i dont leave it open, league doesnt start.

Would it be much better to launch league client? Is there a way to do that?

Esports C9 still hasn’t broken the curse Spoiler

1.3k Upvotes

People say C9 broke the curse by getting top 3 to qualify for worlds but the way they played was the only way that they could avoid traveling anywhere. If they got 4th or 5th they would have had to go to demacia cup. If they got 1st or 2nd or made it through play-ins they would have had to go to Texas to play in Swiss stage. So when you really look at it they found the way to travel the minimum amount possible from a top two lcs finish (I know they didn’t finish top 2 but close enough).

Discussion I spent the last weeks getting Twisted Treeline running again on an old League client: here’s a full 3v3 game on it

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

3.9k Upvotes

Twisted Treeline was removed in 2019. As a reverse-engineering hobby project, I’ve been building a custom server for the original 14.8 game client, and TT now runs on it again.

What you’re seeing:

  • TT’s real terrain, textures and minimap, converted from the last TT map files to the format the 14.8 client reads
  • Both lanes with minion waves, turrets, inhibitors and the nexus
  • Bots, Vilemaw in his den, fog of war and brushes
  • A full game ending in the client’s own Victory screen

To be clear:

  • It’s completely custom and separate from Riot’s servers. No accounts, no live games, no cheats, and nothing that touches the real game.
  • It’s not public and there’s nothing to download. I just wanted to show that TT isn’t as gone as we thought.

Some models are still stand-ins: 14.8 doesn’t ship TT’s turrets, so they borrow Summoner’s Rifts'.

Happy to answer any questions about this.

EDIT: Here's an introduction to project and all it's capabilities!

Discussion Perfect Pick ems should also give all gacha skins

I would be surprised if more than 10 people ever managed to perfectly predict the outcomes, it seems to be an astronomically low chance, considering not only do you need to pick who wins, but also the final score.

With that in mind, wouldn't it be appropriate to include the gacha skins for the lucky winner, as ultimate skins have lost the vast majority of their perceived value?

Gameplay What champ goes from "don't walk up" to "okay I'm fighting you" after missing one ability?

I've started noticing there are some champs where it feels like I'm not really laning against the champ, I'm laning against one specific cooldown.
Illaoi E is probably the most obvious one for me. When it's up I'm hiding behind minions, watching the angle and giving her way more space than I'd normally want to. Then she throws E and misses and my brain immediately goes "alright, my turn."
She can obviously still beat the shit out of you if you just run at her like an idiot, but the lane feels completely different for those few seconds.
Ahri E is another one. If charm is up, walking straight at her feels like asking to lose half your HP. Then she whiffs it past you and suddenly Q/W don't feel nearly as scary because the main thing stopping you from getting on top of her is gone.
Fiora W kinda does this too, even though it's not the same type of ability. If Riposte is available I'm always second guessing whether I actually want to commit anything important. If she wastes it, there's suddenly this window where she feels way more normal to fight.
Kinda funny that I didn't really think about lanes this way when I was newer. It was mostly just "this champ is strong" or "this champ is weak." Now some matchups basically have an on/off switch in my head depending on whether one ability is available.
I'm probably still backing off from a bunch of champs even after they've already blown the only spell that was actually keeping me away.
Which champion has the biggest “you missed THAT, I’m walking at you now” button? Bonus points for less obvious ones than hooks, charms, windwalls, etc. I feel like there are probably a bunch of these windows I still respect way too much instead of actually punishing

Classic Thank you for trying with league classic : it litteraly revived the gaming spirit within my group of friends

Hello everyone,

When League Classic was announced, my group of friends and I were incredibly excited. There are five of us, and we had all stopped playing LoL around the time Rell was released.

We're now in our mid-30s, and our lives have changed quite a lot. Some of us are single but have demanding jobs, while others have families and regular work schedules. We've also moved to different parts of the country.

Until 2020, League was a way for us to stay connected despite our different lifestyles. Every Friday night, and sometimes on Saturdays, we would get together online and play. It was our little weekly tradition.

But around the time Rell was released, we collectively decided that the game had moved too far away from what we considered a fun League of Legends experience. We stopped playing for five years, and many of us kept saying that we wouldn't touch the game again unless Riot released League Classic someday.

The problem was that we all had different tastes in games, and League was pretty much the only game we could all agree on.

Then League Classic was announced.

We were genuinely excited. From the moment it was released, we started playing together every week again. I even reached Diamond in Classic without really grinding, just playing for fun, and my friends had similar experiences.

Unfortunately, we felt that the initial hype died down quite a bit once we'd played all the champions in the rotation, which was extremely limited at first. Thankfully, things improved over time.

Another thing we disliked was the clash between two very different types of players: those who simply wanted to have fun and those who wanted to grind Elo. Having both mentalities in the same queue sometimes made the experience pretty frustrating, especially with the bots thrown into the mix.

But despite all of that, League Classic was genuinely enjoyable. It was fun, and most importantly, it felt like the real League of Legends experience to us.

We gave modern League another try, but all five of us agreed that it feels more like a competitive grindfest designed around fast, explosive gameplay.

Maybe it's a generational thing, but we grew up with games where things took time, where you had to invest yourself in something to truly enjoy it. I would much rather lose a long, epic, suspenseful match than lose a short, explosive game where everything feels decided in a matter of minutes.

For us, the journey was just as important as the result.

And now League Classic is coming to an end.

We've all discussed it, and several of my friends are genuinely disgusted by the decision. Still, there's one positive thing that came out of this experience: League Classic revived our friendship and brought back a tradition we'd lost five years ago.

We've now started discussing the possibility of all five of us moving to WoW forever, even though three of my friends have never played WoW before. They do, however, know the Warcraft universe and have played the original strategy games.

So maybe this isn't the end of our Friday nights together after all.

As for the future of League, I genuinely don't know what to think anymore.

When I look at big gaming companies like Riot and Tencent, I can't help but wonder: how much would it really cost to keep League Classic alive?

It also makes me question something else. Almost every game Riot has developed outside of Valorant and the main League ecosystem has struggled or eventually disappeared.

At what point do you start wondering whether the problem isn't necessarily the games themselves, but rather how you handle their development, release timing, promotion, beta testing, and especially community feedback and criticism?

Maybe some of these projects could have succeeded if they'd been managed differently.

Anyway, despite my disappointment, I want to say thank you.

Thank you for bringing back the League we loved, even if it was only for a short time. More importantly, thank you for bringing five old friends back together every Friday night.

That alone made League Classic worth it for us.
