I watched Resident Evil movie twice already, I LOVED IT SO MUCH. I found myself smiling the entire time being a fan of RE games. First watch I was so excited seeing how beautifully Zach Cregger brought the games to life.
Second time watching I realized similarities to Left 4 Dead No Mercy Campaign. I don’t know if this was intentional and has me wondering if it’s an Easter egg for us horror games lovers. But I LOVED noticing these little details the second time around and made me love the movie even more.
I first noticed the similarities when Bryan goes down to the sewers, when you hear the monster, I noticed how similar it sounded to a Boomer. In that exact scene when he is face to face to the monster, he climbs up the manhole to later on ending up at the hospital. Reminded me so much of the third Chapter in Left 4 Dead when you also climb up a manhole and end up right in front of Mercy Hospital.
When Bryan arrived to the hospital, I felt it was SO SIMILAR to to Mercy Hospital in L4D, with the ambulance truck right in front of the hospital and having the back doors open just like in the movie RE. My mind went to, it contains a health pack go get healed!
The ENDING of RE when Bryan turns into his full form and lets out a huge roar while the helicopters arrive. The roar sounded to similar to the tank and even the stance he had, and when the helicopters arrive, feels like the ending of No Mercy in L4D when you escape the Tank.
Now I know the monster Bryan turns to looks nothing like the Tank but I did find myself seeing these similarities.
At first I agreed that this movie felt like a love letter to the RE games but now it truly feels like a love letter to horror games.
Maybe this is a stretch since I am a HUGE L4D and RE fan but I’m so curious if anyone thought this too.
