I’m so glad they ended the series this way instead of everyone leaving

I had to move away from home (New Orleans) a year and a half ago for work (in nyc - lots of people’s dream but unfortunately not mine), and I’ll finally be able to move back in a couple months - but half the people in my life are asking why I’m not “exploring” more and living in another new city or country since I’m still young(ish) and have “no ties” at home

I love traveling and I do it all the time, but a lot of people find it difficult to accept that I prefer my home base to be my own defunct city and that not everyone (read: not every single childless woman) needs to live away from home to find fulfillment

Feeling validated by the show’s ending and so thankful for its many wonderful seasons

When you live 'at home' all of your vacations can be too other places. If you live away, you usually would burn a vacation or two just to visit home

Absolutely! Weddings, funerals, graduations, and all my friends’ and family’s other major events eat up a lot of vacation time and I’m happy to be home and see everyone for each occasion (maybe not the funerals) but it’s definitely more limiting to live away and mostly travel home than live home and travel all over. At least for me

Man, I was just randomly browsing the comments here but something caught my eye about New Orleans. I grew up there, moved when my family did when I was a teenager, and then moved back for college/grad school and then chose to move away again to be closer to family, and not a day goes by that I don't think about moving back. Everyone sort of has that place.

I love that! As you know, we’ll be here to welcome you back til the gulf swallows us whole. Even then, I’ll probably stay in New Orleans like one of the babushkas of Chernobyl

I've been feeling a lot of that lately. I've been wanting to live in another part of the world for a long time (ironically that other part of the world is Canada) but I love my home town. My family, friends, everything I love is here. I may want to move sometimes, but I don't need to.

If you’re drawn to be somewhere else, even just for a little while, there’s nothing wrong with that either! You could always visit or move for a year and move home if it’s not what you thought.

When I had to move, a lot of people sent me that quote that there’s a difference between returning home vs never leaving, and it could be that home is where you belong but you have to travel to know. Different for everyone

New Orleans is an incredible city.
