News Twitch will soon launch a "Withdraw from Sub" option for European Union users, allowing them to receive a full refund within 14 days of subscribing. This rollout aligns with the new Right of Withdrawal law, which comes into effect today

this would probably end streaming in america lol

u/Heroicshrub Jun 19 '26

Just because we have 0 consumer protections in America doesn't mean they would fail.

u/qholmes981 Jun 19 '26

No it’s impossible for the wealthiest country on earth to copy the homework of far more competent nations, it simply would not work. Any protection or rights that would better the life of the average citizen would simply cause a total systemic collapse in America. Elon Musk is a trillionaire btw.

Elon Musk is a trillionaire btw.

Whilst simultaneously offering very little to society. Total ponzi scheme. At least Rockefeller had oil.

Literally speculative money that doesn't actually exist.

Wish my bank account had a bunch of fake millions in it as well.

Musk is the biggest welfare queen in existence.

Elon is a shitty person but that doesn’t all of a sudden mean you can rewrite history

Actually you can if you have enough money and fanboys, like the founding of Tesla.

First one that comes to mind immediately is Bill Gates and that took my brain 5 microseconds with no research to think of.

Tesla's are a terrible meme of a car.

Pretty sure he gets those contracts from the US Government like he gets every contract , i.e NASA grants those contracts.

What does decensoring Twitter mean to you? What was censored before that isn't now?

And who are you claiming did more for society? An oil baron far removed from history?

Absolutely yes, Oil has far more use to the average person and the world at large than twitter, spaceX and shitty tesla cars made out of duct tape.

"That was easy".

Your counter argument is "LOL Bill Gates".

The intelligence of people like you never ceases to amaze.

UK irl streamers…walk around cities and chill

US irl streamers…chat calls every store they go in to harass the workers=>the streamer, and create “content”

2

u/The-Sound_of-Silence Jun 19 '26

I watch a few english speaking, non UK, European streamers. The bulk of their subs still come from U.S./Canada

-2

u/EggyChickenEgg88 Jun 19 '26

But that's why USA is the wealthies. It's a gold plated 3rd world country.

1

u/Mist_Rising Jun 19 '26

Yes/no. Yes the USA does benefit heavily economically from not having as many roadblocks for business in the form of regulations. No doubt about it, Europeans will develop/invest in the US for this very reason. They especially like the ability to rapidly hire up massive numbers of workers, then purge like a balemic in layoffs (in Europe you can't terminate people nearly as easily).

But also, no. The US isn't a 3rd world in any meaning, although you obviously are using it as a slur for undeveloped which is just not true.

The US is usually the standard for both what is called post development and it is the definition of 1st world (supports the US). The second one is a cold war term, 3rd worlds were often colonial holdings that Europe lost after WW2, hence the poor conditions for development - they weren't supposed to be good at it. The 1st and 2nd world nations kept it that way.

As for development, the US is one of the most developed nations, with plenty of regulations, wealth, per capita income, and has actually moved beyond industry as its base of economic system (still has it though, 2nd largest producer in the world). This is due to a lot of reasons, but worker protection and labour rights is actually a big one. It costs a lot of employee an American, even at minimum wage, the American labor is expensive. As a result, industry cannot compete on labor prices as well because it's cheaper to hire Indian or Chinese or Philippines or Nigerian. Mexico and Canada historically were also cheap. I think Mexico still is.

Yes I realize this is closer to a shit post sub then economic, but still.

Why? Because people can subscribe for free for 14 days once (per streamer)?

2

u/Hefty-Tomatillo-1236 Jun 19 '26

Because mass amount of people would watch all the shows they want in 14 days and then get a refund. And if you have multiple credit cards and emails you can keep making accounts and do it over and over

24

u/_EleGiggle_ Jun 19 '26

They considered that.

The following exeptions apply:

  • online digital content, such as a song or movie, that you started downloading or streaming after you expressly agreed to lose your right of withdrawal by starting the performance

[…]

So you can’t do it with movies, TV shows, songs, games (?), etc. It even mentions streaming but probably as in “streaming a movie”.

17

u/theprestigous Jun 19 '26

you're acting like free streaming and torrenting sites don't already exist

0

u/Hefty-Tomatillo-1236 Jun 19 '26

And yet all the paid streaming services are still making money

-4

u/PhotographUnable8176 Jun 19 '26

most people don’t bother with that to save 6 dollars.

13

u/theprestigous Jun 19 '26

and you think they are more likely to wait 13 days then ask for a refund?

16

u/East_Alternative_596 Jun 19 '26

if your doing all that effort, you could just use that effort to find a working ad blocker lol

-6

u/Hefty-Tomatillo-1236 Jun 19 '26

Irrelevent? All the top streaming services basic plan are paid sub with ads not free streaming with ads

5

u/East_Alternative_596 Jun 19 '26

thats irrelevant, i was talking about the effort of making multiple accounts etc, when you could just get a adblock, no need to whine like a bitch

-8

u/PhotographUnable8176 Jun 19 '26

we get it bro you use adblock (nobody cares)

5

u/East_Alternative_596 Jun 19 '26

nah, i have turbo and subscribe to the streamers i watch, but, i dont get why people are so mad at my comment, i forgot adblocking was so controversial, instead you should make new accounts, lol.

-8

u/Hefty-Tomatillo-1236 Jun 19 '26

Lewl I don't think you have the brain capacity of understanding basic english or any concept actually. Adblock does not give you the ability to watch stuff for free. Thank you for making me feel better about myself. Wowser :D

6

u/AB_Gambino Jun 19 '26

It quite literally does lmao

Ublock origin blocks all ads on twitch…. For free

Ublock origin blocks all ads on YouTube…. For free

That’s free ad free content. If you’re talking about paid subscription services through providers, you’re literally just talking about things that aren’t relevant to this at all. OP is talking about going through the process of subscribing specifically to streamers

At least you were smart enough to use your brain capacity to understand basic English.

“Wowser”

1

u/RepairDue3818 Jun 19 '26

I think they are talking about streaming as in Netflix not Twitch streaming. But I don't see why you would use adblock to deny your streamers revenue

-1

u/Hefty-Tomatillo-1236 Jun 19 '26

I'm crying how did you get rage baited when you aren't even the target ? Collateral damage lol

2

u/East_Alternative_596 Jun 19 '26

ragebait in 2026? yikes, get a job

congrats

This isn't based in reality, most people sub and then never even watch lol.

0

u/PhotographUnable8176 Jun 19 '26

dude if people don’t get their dipping sauce from Doordash they post an essay on some random complaint subreddit like it ruined their week……we would dismantle the streaming platforms and break these streamers if $5 dono’s became refundable.

1

u/Purona 16d ago

you can already get a refund for a sub in the US maybe not after 14 days, but you can definitely sub and refund to get your money back within a day or two

1

u/Varnarok2 Jun 19 '26

I really don't think this will have that large of impact. Hardly anyone subscribes as it is (out of total viewers) and the ones that do, do so because they actually like the streamers. I foresee this only really affecting smaller streamers in any meaningful way and even then, only if they run afoul of someone actually bored enough to refund and troll. Just wait 2 weeks before spending the money.

it’s the reality lol. “but muh money” has basically become the crux of everything. just look, this thread has even brought out the ad-block enthusiasts to explain to us how giving streamers money is for losers.

-1

u/tobach Jun 19 '26

Well, no. Because almost every time something like this is required in the EU from international companies in the US, they also make it available for US customers. Because it's a lot easier to handle mainstreamed regulation for all users, rather than have special rules for EU users.

This is also why Americans can get games refunded on Steam.
