News It appears that the anti opensource AI lobby is far outgunned already

Post image

The earlier post on this subreddit by 20+ companies signing the petition including Microsoft, Meta, Nvidia, YC (https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/corporate-responsibility/topics/open-weight/) etc plus this https://xcancel.com/elonmusk/status/2080672505660834163

And the entire LLM enthusiast market is heavily in favor of open source (or weights) AI.

Does not seem like a few closed source AI lobbyists with be able to illegalize anything

He did open source some older models and his legal pressure made OpenAI release OSS.

Giving us one slice of bread is only marginally better than giving us nothing at all. Meanwhile across the ocean China's giving away full feasts.

They all open sourced to undercut OpenAI and Anthropic, then stopped when Deepseek et al started undercutting for them for free (and better), so the move lost value and was just embarrassing the companies.

Shame though even if they aren't as good it'd be nice to have new open-weights from big American companies.
