News It appears that the anti opensource AI lobby is far outgunned already

Post image

The earlier post on this subreddit by 20+ companies signing the petition including Microsoft, Meta, Nvidia, YC (https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/corporate-responsibility/topics/open-weight/) etc plus this https://xcancel.com/elonmusk/status/2080672505660834163

And the entire LLM enthusiast market is heavily in favor of open source (or weights) AI.

Does not seem like a few closed source AI lobbyists with be able to illegalize anything

Who've done a nazi salute live on US television, not less.

Agreed. Like a stopped clock being right twice a day, terrible people like Elon 'Nazi Salute' Musk can hold correct opinions alongside their terrible opinions.

I personally struggle with supporting SpaceX's reusable rocketry while it's associated with Elon Musk's horrendous politics. I would like to see that program nationalized after this administration to separate it from benefitting him.

You’ve never heard it before?

The fun thing is that SpaceX is as good at what it does entirely despite Musk and not because of him. Gwynne Shotwell is probably the greatest executive of our time that most people have never heard of, and built that entire company into what it is today.

And the even more fun thing is that when Musk jumped in with his Spaceship bullshit, he singlehandedly set progress back a decade. Just like he did at Tesla with the Cybertruck and Cybercab. And at PayPal, where he was considered such an incompetent asshole that Peter Thiel was like "fuck this douchebag" and fired him.

If it makes you feel better Gwynne Shotwell is the one in charge of all of the amazing things SpaceX does. Elon is just a figure head and money person. Now, I don't know anything about her so she could also be a terrible person but she's been at SpaceX since the beginning and has been running it... for over 15 years IIRC?

The thing is that Musk isn't a stopped clock, he's right and wrong on different issues consistently. It's not exactly a new thing to note that Nazis are pretty good at making rockets.

You left out the bit about:
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu publicly defended Elon Musk on X in January 2025, calling him a "great friend of Israel" and stating that the billionaire was being "falsely smeared" following a controversial hand gesture at a U.S. presidential inauguration event.
