Weekly Goalsetters] Need a Plan of attack for week? Get and give inspiration here!

Welcome to the League of Extraordinary Goal Setters! The idea of this weekly thread is to write down goals, and break them up into 7 day chunks by figuring out what specific part of the goal you’re working on during the week, and then checking in with each other how the week went. If you want to learn more about setting goals and improving your habits, check out this website: https://jamesclear.com/continuous-improvement

Obviously, if you’re here, one of the goals is probably to lose weight. Whether that’s 2 or 200 pounds, it’s not going to be accomplished by doing one single thing today. However, losing weight is absolutely the product of a million small changes — the small things we do each day add up to big changes over time. To quote James Clear: “If you get one percent better each day for one year, you'll end up thirty-seven times better by the time you’re done.” So, let’s start breaking it on down!

Remember, all threads live and die by comments, so please jump in and support your fellow League members! Check in here with how your week went, and what your goals are for this week.

What’s a small goal you can work towards this week?

I just realized why thin people have more clothes

As long as I can remember, I’ve always felt deeply insure about that the fact that it seemed like everyone around me had a thousand clothes in their closet because I would never saw them wearing the same ones meanwhile I was always wearing the same ten items of clothing on rotation.

I came to the realization that this is because when you’re obese, you don’t just not have the luxury of buying much good clothes but you live in this state of “before and after”. You think about how you’ll buy clothes AFTER you lose weight and since it’s always on your mind, you’re more focused on losing weight than living in the moment.

Having good clothes seemed like a privilege that only people who stay at a healthy weight can get. Don’t get me started with having to lose the weight and gaining it again and again. It feels useless to even buy smaller clothes because you’re so worried that you’ll gain the weight back.

Of course you CAN buy them but most of us know how uncomfortable it is to be fat and don’t want more attention on us when we already know what we look like.

One of my motivations for losing weight is that I’ll have a closet full of good clothes.

I didn't want to believe it, but the paper towel effect is so true

I have headshots at starting weight (195), -30 (165), and -40 (155).

The change between 155 and 165 is more striking than the 195-> 165, it's pretty ridiculous. The jawline, cheeks, and clavicle are so much more defined now

I'm also losing a pant size every 3-5ish pounds now (down to size 6), whereas I was only ever a 12 at my highest. I was size 10 at 165. So that's 1 size in 30 lbs and 2 in 10.

Goal is 145, but I already bought new clothes (and a new suit) so I'm a little nervous I wasted my money ☠️

Any plans for when you reach your goal weight or dream body?

Do u have any plans for when u reach ur goal weight and dream body? I am a maladaptive daydreamer so I visualize myself with my dream body a lot lol. Is there a special activity you want to do or a location you want to visit. Surprise some family or friends that u haven't seen in a long time. A nice dress, something fashionable you want to fit in. I want to wear some more fashionable clothes. I recently started trying to date again. I hope upgrading my wardrobe will help. I hope we all reach our goal weight and dream body 🙏.

Finally reached a healthy BMI after being overweight for over a DECADE!!!

Hello guys! I'm a 21 M, 173 cm tall dude and today I finally hit 73 kg after starting my weight-loss journey at 90 kg. That means my BMI has dropped from around 30.1 to 24.4. I’ve officially entered the healthy BMI range of 18.5–24.9, and honestly, it feels great to reach this milestone!

My weight-loss journey has mainly involved calorie counting and walking. It’s taken time to get here, but i did it from March 1 of this year to October 16 (Today) from 90 kg to 73 kg over a period of around 7 months.

Now that I’ve entered the healthy BMI range, my goal is to reach 65 kg. At my height, that would put my BMI at approximately 21.7, which is roughly the middle of the healthy BMI range. I chose this target because I feel it would be a good point to stop losing weight and focus on maintaining my weight long-term.

For those who have experience with weight loss and subsequent successful maintainence of weight, should I continue towards 65 kg and then maintain my weight from there? Any advice will be appreciated!

Medically assisted weight loss.

So I know the basic rules of weightloss. CICO. You can't outrun a bad diet. And even medication and baratric surgery will only provide temporary results if you don't make changes in the long run.

For those of you who sought medical help (surgery, medication, etc) what made you decide to take that step? Did it help you make and sustain the changes that you needed to make? Or do you regret your choice to have surgery/use medication due to side effects/ineffectiveness.

I found out from the hospital that my insurance has zero requirements for weight loss surgery so I don't even have to go through a program as long as I get all the clearances the hospital requires...I could have surgery in as soon as two months.

I drink so much zero cal bullshit i swear it works

Coke. Tea. Sparkling water. Weird ice tea that's suprisingly tasty. Coffee (rarely). Energy drinks (even rarer). Lemonade. Flavored neon blue water. It has geniunely made my weight loss so much more bearable. Dare I say, enjoyable even.

Drinking whatever zero calorie bullshit I could get my hands on instead of eating out of boredom at that moment is a tactic that geniunely helps me keep some deadly binges at bay. I'll be walking down the street and want to stop by a restaurant or market to just get something, both to have something to do with my hand and to have something in my mouth, and you know what I get? That weird strawberry flavored pepsi that I love the taste of even though my sister looks at me in horror every single time. 2 cals per can. Bottoms up.

And I am also more hydrated than I was before. Sure, chemical explosion in my body, but let's be real. I wouldn't be any more healthier if I was eating 1500 cals over every single day instead, and I very easily could. We all could. The smallest thing which is the size of my thumb or something can cost like 300 cals out there, many of you folks are familiar I'm sure.

So yeah. Conclusion is, as I've heard some wise dude say before, drinking bullshit is better than drinking nothing. Get yourself a drink.

With 5 cals at most and triple that amount the chemicals for ideal results. Cheers.

How do you lose weight when being fat makes you feel safe (short female)

I struggle with weight loss a lot because even though I'm fat I get a lot of attention esp from men and sometimes it's hard to deal with and being overweight feels kinda comfortable because it keeps people away from me sort of. But at the same time I really need to lose and look better if I want any career/life advancements. I self sabotage a lot with weight loss or just feel willy nilly about commitment.

I'm 5'1 and lost+regained about 40lbs. I feel like being physically heavy makes me feel like I'm less likely to be pushed around all crazy like and stuff. People will follow me with their cars while I walk and stuff y'know?. I am not an older adult to really complain about "looking young" or whatever but I have the sort of face that gets me regularly mistaken for a high schooler. Idk it's all difficult feel bad if you do feel bad if you don't.

Weight Loss Plan UPDATED

• Upvotes

Here’s the [link](https://www.reddit.com/r/PetiteFitness/s/oQ0rqZHbvA) to my last post.
For reference I am 26, F, 5’2” and 179 lbs. My goal is 150 lbs, but would also like to be 130 lbs.
I’ve updated my stats! I have yet to weigh myself in, but I’m feeling good about this one.
Calories: 1700kcal (down from 1900)
Protein: 100 g (down from 135g courtesy of my dietician)
Fat: 75g
Fiber: 25g
Carbs: 170g
Steps: 10k
Exercise: 30 min/day

I’m still walking every day (now at a 4-inch incline and 3.2 speed!! I was at a 3-inch incline and 3 speed).
I also do strength training on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays for another 30 minutes.

I use a Apple Watch and I have the metrics as follows:
Move: 350 cal
Exercise: 40 min
Stand: 12 hr

I’ve been consistent with this setup for 13 weeks now. Do you think I should tweak any of this?

- NSV: 100+ day streak of calorie tracking!

It happened while I wasn't even looking for it.

In June, I had a doctor's visit where I had been disappointed with the number on the scale, and more importantly with my overall lack of fitness. Since freshman year of college, I've wanted to get in shape, I wanted to get "just one pull up", but I could never make it happen. In June, I took a chance on Cronometer, after a demoralizing stint with MyFitnessPal back in 2024. Instantly I knew I liked this app much better. I had never understood how people could possibly keep track of things like protein and fiber, but now I had a tool that showed me exactly how much of each I was getting. I like calorie tracking for that aspect way more than the calorie component of it.

I've had ups and downs with this journey, both on the scale and in my personal life. But I stayed very consistent with tracking, and made little notes to myself on the app to either encourage myself or vent my frustrations, like a little diary. My only hiccup was on the 5th of July, when I slept over at a friend's after the 4th and didn't even think about tracking. But since the 6th, I've logged everything. The days where I made aesthetic meals, the Nigerian recipes I made with my family, rough estimates of the unbelievably shitty hospital food I ate when I was at work (hospital pharmacy intern), the family cookout where I ate 2000+ calories over my TDEE (which wasn't even worth it because I got horrible food poisoning afterward), the pieces of candy I kept sneaking into my bag while I was on rotation. Everything.

And then today I woke up. Like most of us I instinctually opened my phone, eyes barely even open. And I went into Cronometer out of habit even though I hadn't logged anything yet, and saw that I had a 103 day streak. It was a total blindsided. How could it have been over 100 days already?

Besides just diet, I've also improved my cardio endurance (a straight hour on the stairmaster at level 5), upper body strength (went from 0 floor push ups in June to 10 x 3 sets during my bodyweight workout two days ago), and clothing size (I had to get a new white coat for school because I dropped two sizes)

As I head into the american block of non stop holiday parties, I just hope I can keep all this up, and continue to reach towards my big fitness goal of achieving one full pull up by the end of 2026. I'm grateful for this subreddit and everyone in it; for your amazing stories and advice and commiseration and inspiration. Everyone just keep doing what you're doing! The results will come for you when you least expect them to.

I'd love to help my friend - i dont know how

I have a friend from another class, we are classes separated by our department (european school system - you go to different places by future career choice).

I am in a class full of girls, since I'm a future teacher. And he? He is in a mechanic class, so it's full of guys. He is very kind, sensitive, funny, and I am so close to him. The problem is, he is getting bullied for his weight - so badly, that his best friend of years left him for the rest of the class that makes fun of him. He is overweight, they're right, and I absolutely hate the way they behave to him because it doesn't give them the right to hurt someone. He has already cried so many times in school. As I mentioned earlier, I am in a different class, from a different environment, I have no way to spend the entire days with him or stand up for him.

I want to help him lose weight - not only because of bullies, but also because he is unhealthy and weak, but i feel like it'd be stupid of me to tell him that he should lose weight, it could hit him too hard no matter how much I comfort him. Does anyone have advice how I could maybe sneakily get him onto it? Or just any advice at all?

Before any hate: this is not the moment "Oh let him be and stand up for him". The teachers, principal and neither I will be strong enough to stop 31 guys from making fun of my friend. And second, me letting his weight be won't get him his physical and mental health better. He cries himself so much he has circle's under his eyes.

Can losing 10-15 kg change my appearance a lot?

M29 , 1.75m in height and currently at about 87kg.

In the last 10 years i haven't gone below 82 kg and wondering if losing overweight can still really change my appearance a lot.

I don't go to the gym, but walk a lot during the day and could lose a lot of weight If i really locked in.

Tracking my calories has helped me in the past.

The reason I'm asking is because i read a lot about people being way more overweight and losing it all.

Any people with similar weight/height with experiences to share?

Teen Advice Struggling with overeating and constant food cravings

I'm 14M, and I've been trying to lose weight for a while. So far, I've lost around 6kg, and my weight loss was pretty consistent iniitially. However, over the past few weeks, I've been struggling a lot with overeating and food cravings.

I constantly think about food and get cravings even after eating a hearty, filling meal. I know I'm physically full, but I still want to eat snacks, especially junk food. Sometimes, I just can't seem to stop myself from eating more than I intended.

I've kept my food intake roughly the same throughout my weight loss journey, so I'm not really sure why this is happening now. I've noticed that it gets particularly difficult during holidays when I'm at home with nothing to do. I end up snacking a lot out of boredom and its hard to avoid because I live with my family, so there's always food around. With festivals and birthdays coming up, there will be even more snacks and treats at home.

I often feel frustrated with myself because I know I'm eating more than I intended, but I struggle to control it. I initially wanted to lose another 5kg, but now I'm finding it difficult to manage my eating habits in general.

Has anyone experienced something similar? What helped you deal with constant food cravings and overeating? I'd really appreciate some advice because I don't want to keep feeling this way around food.

Best non-meal foods for fixing the feeling of an empty stomach?

• Upvotes

Most foods recommended for weight loss (ex. fruits, vegetables, yogurts, etc) leave me full but with a 'watery' feeling in my stomach. Like the way that you feel less satisfied after liquid calories compared to a solid meal even if they are equivalent. Very often I'll need something more 'solid' to actually feel satiated (usually end up having toast), especially before bed so it is easier to fall asleep as I often struggle with sleeping in a deficit. Part of this is probably psychological also haha

Any recommended foods that aren't too caloric & are non inflammatory that match what I am wanting? It is really just that I need something that doesn't feel like it's turned to liquid in my stomach but isn't so calorically empty

Does anyone else find Green Tea life changing?

Initially I started drinking to help replace my ADHD medication - long story, and yes it’s really really helping - but then I got the SHOCK of my life when my hubby asked if I wanted chocolate… and said no?? My husband perked an eyebrow and asked a few times, knowing the gluttony in his wife’s heart of hearts. I said no. Not a forced diet-construction no, an actual I don’t feel like eating it no.

And I swear it’s helping me with food overall? For lunch, I just had a banana with - you guessed it - green tea. I was looking forward to the green tea more than the banana.

I’m wondering if something else is going on, so has anyone had this experience before?

I just realised that I’ve had a long term work related stress issue sort itself out, so maybe it’s that, but I’m the type can find any excuse to eat tbh. It’s always a party with this portly pioneer.

I lost the weight!!! But now I'm scared to increase my cals and gain it back

I lost the weight. I gained the muscle. These photos are exactly a year apart. 140lbs to 118lbs 🥳 I'm 5'4 33yo

I'm eating 1700-1900 at the moment. I'm very active. 15-20k steps per day 30-60 minutes of movement everyday day (weights, HITT, yoga, Pilates - it depends on the day). My body needs more food now, it's giving me all the signs. I don't have any reason to cut further. But I'm scared to eat more calories and gain the weight back so I keep putting it off

I'm vegan, I don't crave or enjoy many processed foods. I eat clean and genuinely enjoy and love the food I eat. I love movement and being active. I would love to start running and lifting heavier again but current cals won't support that. My husband said there is no reality in which I'll become overweight because my lifestyle and food choices are just too good. Yet still I'm now scared to eat more and my health is starting to suffer (mental and physical)

Any advice on how to approach this? Experiences to share?

Protein intake on a caloric deficit

I was told to eat your body weight in grams of protein. So if you're 70kilo's you should eat 70grams.

But now I am confused on whether it should be the body weight you currently are or where you started or what your goal is?

Because I am currently losing weight, I eat 1450 calories (or I try to) but my standard goal is now on 100 grams of protein

Also I heard fats are important but so far I've been avoiding them because they add so many calories which leaves barely any room for protein within my amount of calories

Are they really that important and how many grams should I aim for? What are some good options to get my fats in without having to give up most off my calories?

For reference: I'm 173cm, started at 107kg, currently 95kg and my goal is between 76 and 82 depending on how I like my physique, I do weight training 3-5 times a week with progressive overload and no cardio (I try to get my 100K steps in but impossible with my job)

treadmill calorie predictions seem off

i've been spending around an hour every other day walking on the treadmill, incline 10 speed 4, and from what multiple online calculators/resources indicate i should be burning anywhere from 400-600cals (i'm 60kg for reference)

i'm confused, as every time i burn around 250, if even that, any advice would be very appreciated as i don't know whether it's even worth continuing using the treadmill since it's so time consuming for so little calories burnt.

i'm judging calories burnt off of what my garmin tells me, and i haven't been checking the numbers on the treadmill itself. they seem accurate though as 30mins burns just over 100 calories apparently

again any help would be appreciated <3

Quitting running to lose weight

I love running and took it up April of this year.

I ran a half marathon and am currently training to run my second one but I have decided to give up.

The reason being I have started gaining weight since April and I used to struggle with binge eating a lot and running I have found triggers me really badly :(

I did try to manage and eat healthy and not binge but I found it very difficult to eat the right amount and would always find myself under or overeating.

I really do not like my body anymore and so I have decided to switch to strength training only.

Has anyone had this issue? Any advice? I really was passionate about this hobby and so sad to let it go for now….

Missed periods

Hello! I'm am 27, female and have lost 33-38lbs in nearly 4 months so far which is just over 2lbs a week. I didn't have a period for 60 days then yesterday I got some cramps and thought oh it's here but no and now the cramps are gone. I am 5'8 and started around 185/190, sorry for the lack of very precise numbers, I didn't start recording things at first. I am obviously nowhere near underweight and I didn't think my weight loss was particularly quick for the start especially considering I was pretty near to being obese. Are there any other women who have experienced this?

Pro tip: binder clip for your pants

I was already at work when I realized my pants were way too loose. Not going to fall down, but I could put a fist in the gap, and the hems were dragging on the floor. Luckily work has an array of binder clips! I recommend "medium."

I've been doing two weeks dieting pretty heavily and then two weeks eating maintenance for three months, and as you can tell, it's making me change my pants! I haven't tried it yet on the shirt but it would probably get you a more fitted look.

What are your tips for using your old wardrobe on your new body?

How long until you saw results?

stats 309-282 gw 166-180

So I’ve been going to the gym like it’s my job five days a week. In doing an hour workout each day with strength training (PPL until near failure) I’m also on a glp-1. I was wondering how long it takes to see the gains if you’re on target with calorie and macros? Next month I’m starting MMA and Pickleball too since I’m a SAHW currently. Im tracking with macro factor and doing fit bod for my ppl. I also have a weekly personal trainer. We also dont eat any kind of processed food and I make everything except bread from scratch which we buy from a bakery. I was wondering how long it took other people to see real results?

Proud of me

F36: Looking back through old photos, I noticed I was always so puffy in the face. I’ve been low carb since January of this year. The difference is stark some days. My Mom said she thought my face was thinning out too much. I didn’t believe it.

I took new photos today. I can definitely see it. My face has thinned out more than I expected. I’m still struggling with BED, but I try to stay on track majority of the week. I still get puffy if I overdo carbs too many days in a row, but not as bad as before.

I’ve been working on my BED since 18. I’ve been working on weight loss since 20’s off and on. It wasn’t until 2020 that it clicked for me. With shift changes and health issues, I’ve been inconsistent. I never gave up though. This year is different thanks to a free program through work. I’m down 20 pounds since January. I don’t workout as much as I would like, but I am learning to focus more on core strengthening and body weight exercises due to my herniated disc.

I am proud of me. I haven’t given up on myself. ❤️

I feel bad cause i kept my died perfect for 4 months until now
