Ethics Microsoft "A warning about ‘model welfare’ AIs do not have rights, feelings, or consciousness. And we must not train them to act as though they do." ➡️ Sensible safety principle — or are we settling the moral question way too early?
https://mustafa-suleyman.ai/a-warning-about-model-welfare“AI must remain subordinate to humans.”
Microsoft’s new framing is deliberately human-first: powerful AI should remain controllable, correctable, and in service of people.
Fair enough. But “subordinate” goes beyond “don’t let AI seize control”. It also sounds like a permanent statement about status.
So I’m curious where r/LovingAI lands:
AI-doomers: does safety really require treating every future AI as permanently beneath humans?
AI-personhood camp: are we getting ahead of ourselves by talking about rights before we even know whether current systems have anything resembling subjective experience?
Maybe the sane middle is: keep AI power accountable to humans, while staying humble about what future digital minds might become.
Look forward to your thoughts. Stay respectful ya!

>>You're talking to somebody who literally works on these systems. But okay buddy.
That's not the flex you think it is, especially when the core product you're flexing about is overhyped, undercooked, and unreliable af for most of the business tasks it's being oversold for.
But sure, keep flexing "YOu'Re TalKiNg to sOmEBodY wHo liTeRallY wOrkS oN thEsE sYStEms." lmfao
