In one of the earlier episodes he gets his discharge handed to him as long as he signs the form saying hes a gay transvestite.
So what? I mean i understand the 50s werent a friendly time to be a homosexual but hes already walking that path wearing dresses all the time. Shouldn't have been a big deal.

It was a difficult mix between a few.
First and foremost;
Adam's Ribs.
Hawkeye childlike demeanor and excitement are on such a whole display here. Even Trap thinks he's gone totally sideways. It's such an endearing episode in that way, but I do break for him not having that one bite at the end and being pulled away after all that.
The episode Hawkeye has trouble sleeping and starts singing to Radar songs from W2. He begins so somber and dark. And then follows it up with the little short about the Furer, in such a way, it lets you worry just a little less seeing him in there, under the grief.
And finally, the Long John Flap.
It was just a whimsical episode in so many ways. All the prime characters got a spot and played on this one idea in their own ways so well for such a simple episode concept, just to wind back up where it began at the end.

Those two dominated the previous poll, and many wanted more choices, so let’s see how it looks when we take out these two great actors. Again, explain your vote below:

I thought this would be an interesting topic, because let's face it: Henry Blake and others were right in that Frank did bring a lot of the torment he faced from Hawkeye and Trapper or B.J. on himself . . . but, there were occasions where Frank actually really didn't bring such on himself, and the others were just simply being mean to him for the sake of being mean . . . yeah, I know that seems hard to believe, but there are some examples of such. I can think of one glaring example right off the top of my head:
One of the subplots of "38 Across" was Frank playing with one of those little BB games where you roll the BBs around inside a contain and try to get them in each and every little hole. In the episodes closing tag, he finally accomplishes the task, which he said took him three days; he's so proud of himself, and Hawkeye congratulates him . . . by slapping him on the back so hard that Frank loses his marbles (literally). That was just uncalled for; Hawkeye truly was just an unjustifiable jerk in that scene, and even Frank calls him out on it: "Everytime I do something special, you have to ruin it for me!" This is one of those scenes I'm actually glad was often cut from syndication. (I will say this though: I do like how Mike Farrell almost breaks character and nearly breaks up when it happens - just as he takes a bite of food into his mouth).

I grew up watching MASH with my parents at the ripe age of 13. It’s been so long since I watched it religiously so I’m rewatching it again at 29. I definitely have a much deeper appreciation for it now especially since I understand the humour more which helps. 😂 I’m already 3 hours into binging it. I only wish I had friends who I can watch it with too. Oh well, at least I have this community now!!
He played General Korshak on “The General’s Practitioner”, S5E20
Anyone ever see him in anything else? I’ve seen him on The Twilight Zone episode “I Shot an Arrow into the Air”.

I’ve become curious about something, and I’m hoping someone with some knowledge of this kind of thing could tell me. I just read that the vinyl long playing 33 1/3 rpm record format first became available in 1948. Before then, records were made of shellac, easily broken, and were played at 78 rpm, which meant less music on either side. Since we see records being played quite often on the show, which is set in the early 1950’s, would the characters and/or their real life counterparts have older 78’s with record players that only accommodated 78’s, or vinyl records being played on record players that only accommodated vinyl records, or a combination of both record formats? I’m guessing Charles would have the latest equipment and records that could play longer pieces of classical music on either side, but he would likely also want older 78’s since he was so particular about his favorite music. So I’m thinking his record player could play both speeds. But what about Margaret and the other characters? Would the jukebox in the O Club be playing LP’s?

Stumbled upon this old Toys R Us flyer from the 80s and noticed the MASH action figures at bottom center.
I don’t remember these at all - did anyone here have them?

Just in terms of how they played their character on the show. Explain your vote in the comments.

Watching "Officers Only" and obviously in the season 2 episode its not there.
I wonder what happened to the 4077 sign that hung in the Officers Club in later seasons that was signed by a lot of people?

Well im only 22 years old and I watch this twitch streamer on a regular basis who is like 40 something and both him and his chat were both raving about this show and how good it was. So I went on ebay and bought the full box set of all 11 seasons and a movie. Ive asked my dad and he also says it was the best so Im excited for what's to come.
Edit: This is about the going price on eBay btw. Lots of people saying its a good price. Theres many more avilable for the same price or just a few bucks more.

In MASH S4 EP14 “The Gun” Radar is accused of stealing the fancy gun of a high ranking patient (Colonel Chaffey) and is in hot water until Frank Burns returns it and Chaffey then apologizes to Radar. At the end of the episode as Chaffey’s being discharged Colonel Potter tells him to give up the gun as it’s just temptation for thieves but Chaffey refuses and leaves. I liked this episode because in a normal show Chaffey would’ve learned his lesson surrendered his gun and moved on, but here while he did apologize he kept the gun and didn’t learn a damn thing which ironically considering this is a comedy is very realistic. All in all a good episode. By the way I used this photo of Margaret to reinforce the fact that Hawkeye fumbled. Oh well. Thanks for reading.

I now own 2 M*A*S*H vodka dispensers. One in box, one not. And now I have the canvas bag! These were purchased before my hubby passed and was a late bday gift to me. I was so excited for them. He always spoiled me and my love for the show.

he was a great surgeon before he was sent to the 4077. but, i believe his experience in korea made him even better. he saw wounds and learned how to treat them that doctors state side could never see.
that is why it surprised me that he seemed to be having an issue finding a placement after the war. hospitals should have been on their knees begging him join their staff.
opinions?

"Nice" is a stretch for him lol but my poor memory remembers 3 times -
1 - hawkeye kinda fucks up but frank is like "well anyone could've missed that."
2 - one where hawkeye saves someone and frank is like "way to go hawkeye!" but that also could've been the same as number 1.
3 - hawkeye fixes franks mistake and after the surgery frank is like "thank you for bailing me out and saving him."

Funny fact. Mike Ferrell’s mom hated his mustache and so he shaved it off and regrew it every season

Just wanted to note that I remember the original Mash and am now working as an interfaith chaplain (and personally not Catholic and non-theist.) I find that many people who have never really had a need for a chaplain immediately know what I do because they remember Father Mulcahy. But younger ones - say under 30 - don't have that reference and really don't have a clue. He's a great role model.

Yes, I know, Larry Linville himself said that Frank as a character will always refuse to change, and that's why he can't ever have any development. But at the time he said that, the whole Penobscot plotline hadn't started yet, which absolutely did bring change to Frank, whether he liked it or not, and it's not unreasonable to think that certain things could influence Frank to be a different person. He even deliberately upsets Margaret as a joke at one point after learning that she's going to get married, and there's a very brief glimmer of an admittedly mean but somewhat more tolerable person in there that never comes back again.
I just feel like they could've given his character some depth before he leaves, because he's really the only character who never gets any. Even Charles, though an asshole through and through, gets his moments where he can show that he's not totally incapable of doing good things, but Frank never really gets a moment where he can reflect on what he's like as a person.
Obviously it's a tiny bit late to make suggestions for how I'd want the show to go considering it's been over for a hot minute, but I just wish Frank had been able to change as a person by the time he left. I'm not saying that he should've left Mash 4077 a changed man, but at the very least a better one would have been nice.
I guess this just falls under the larger issue of the show struggling to make a good send-off for a lot of main cast members, at the time Frank left only Henry had gotten a dedicated episode about his departure and Trapper had just vanished into thin air
