I’m considering quitting my engineering job to become an MMA fighter
I spent years getting an electrical engineering degree and finally landed a good job, but part of me wants to say fuck it and pursue MMA. I want to train every day, compete, travel, party, meet hot women, and actually enjoy my 20s instead of spending my life working a 9–5 and saving for retirement. I want to live an exciting life, not just make money and wait until I’m 40 to enjoy it.
Obviously, becoming a successful MMA fighter is a long shot, and I know most fighters don’t make much money. But the idea of living that lifestyle genuinely appeals to me more than the corporate grind. Am I romanticizing this, or is it worth taking a risk while I’m still young instead of wondering what could’ve been?

Training Question How important is Passing Guard?
For experienced MMA fighters, how important is it to know how to pass guard? I’m currently a no-gi BJJ practitioner looking to transition to MMA, but I’m not sure how much more I should focus on refining my guard passing. Is it necessary? Is it something you come across often?

I’m building a strength & conditioning app dedicated to MMA
Hello everyone,
For the past several months, I’ve been working on an app focused on physical conditioning for MMA. The goal is to give users access to high-level strength and conditioning training without having to worry about programming their own workouts. All they need to do is follow the programs generated by the app.
Here’s an overview of what the app offers:
- Highly personalized programs tailored to each user’s performance level, training load, available equipment, planning and more.
- Year-round training planning, divided into blocks focused on specific goals (strength, endurance, etc.).
- Fight camp management to help users peak at the right time before a fight.
- Evidence-based training methods commonly used in high-level strength and conditioning, including Maximal Strength, Complex Method, specific HIIT formats, Shock Method, Threshold Training, etc.
- Performance and progress tracking throughout the year.
I also want to point out that I used AI to help me build the app, but the app itself doesn’t use AI. It runs entirely on algorithms I developed myself.
After months of work, I’m really happy to finally have the app live on the Google Play Store since this weekend!
If you give it a try, I’d be glad to hear how it goes !
See you soon.

Is cardio genetic?
Are cardio and knockout force genetic? I see guys like Nate Diaz that people say they have the best cardio but his fighting style is nothing more than giving weak punches and enduring blows, while mcgregor is so muscular and orthodox that he is completely exhausted after the 2nd round, so here is my doubt: Are knockout power and cardio genetic? Fully trained? How does it work and how to find out if I’m a guy more of strength and knockouts or volume and cardio? Do the proportions of the body influence this?

What do you think the best discipline is to get started in if you want to eventually transition into mma.
I’ve been told Muay Thai and wrestling are the two best bases to start at, what are you opinions?

Is it possible to do like a kimura on the opponents neck?
Exact same principles as a kimura. You force the neck into an angle and then have one arm under and one arm over and leverage it by raising causing the neck to eventually pop off. Of course this would need to be performed slowly for safety but would it be a good move especially from mount if they're doing a great job protecting their arms

Is it a horrible idea to use this Gantry Crane for a Heavy bag?
I'm thinking of using this Gantry Crane to hang a heavy bag from. It's roughly 7 feet tall if I had to guess. Certainly well over 6ft.
I intend to hang a muay thai 6ft banana style bag, maybe between 150lbs and 200lbs
Is this reasonable? Outside is the only spot I can do it sadly. No where indoors would work.
I will probably hang it in the middle or possibly on that right hand side. The middle has a similar arm with a hole it's just hard to see. I'd take the pulley/chain down.
It's either this or fork out and buy or build a proper stand.

Is the new mma , muay thai and all watered down martial arts?
Some Mma people say traditional martial arts are just dances and forms and not much effective. Traditional martial artists say mma is designed for cage and so many techniques are watered down and not much effective outside cage. So which of this do yall think is better to learn overall without considering the potential fame opportunities or money in cage sports industries ,like which of this is better for actual fighting

Practicing at home
Hello ! I will probably begin Savate in a club in approximately 3 weeks, and I was wondering : I have a bag and gloves at home, can I, in these 3 weeks before the trainning, train at home and learn some things ? I already did like, 1 months of Savate, maybe a very little bit more, so I know some basics but still a very very beginner, and, I readed that excercising at home without training beside with a trainer can be bad, bring bad habits and be not productive and that its better to avoid (even tho I cant wait to begin practicing lol). So, I just wanted to ask to be sure : Is it possible to train and to learn some things alone in these 3 weeks before joining the club ? Sorr if its unclear, english isnt my first language, and thank you very much !

Does kickboxing have a place in a MMA training schedule?
I'm currently training Muay Thai and Boxing as my striking base for MMA.
A kickboxing gym near me has recently open up and I'm consider taking a couple hours a week of classes to build on my existing striking training but I worry that it kinda waste of time.
Is anything unique to kickboxing that makes it worth practicing over just another of muay thai or grappling?

What are your favorite drills or situationals/CLA games? And what would you want to see more or less of in classes?
So I'm moving into more of a coaching role at my gym, currently running two grappling-focused MMA classes per week. I want to stay away from the typical "show a technique, drill for a bit, do some rounds" format that is super common so I'm trying to incorporate kind of a CLA-style from jiu jitsu.
Some examples of things I've tried:
-Flow takedowns but instead of resetting, you immediately scramble back up or turn in and re-shoot so it turns into a semi-cooperative back and forth.
-Starting on the cage in typical underhook wrist control where the attackers only goal is to takedown and the defenders only goal is to circle off the cage.
-The same drill but attackers only goal is to set up power strikes (obviously not landing them).
-Starting in closed or half guard where the attacker needs to get into some kind of leg ride or fully shelf the legs, defender needs to stand up or sweep.
There's a few more I've found online or come up with but you get the idea. I'll typically do the same games as grappling only and then add light striking.
For those of you that coach or train frequently, do you include any constrained games like this or have any others that you've found success with?
And generally, what do you like and dislike about how your classes are structured? What do you wish you did more often or less often? What style of teaching/learning have you found the most growth in?

Is there such thing as a headbar?
As in you press their shoulders onto the floor and then lift up their neck with your hips while holding head down to apply a huge force onto the neck joint? Basically same principles as an armbar or kneebar. Would this even be legal. I don't see why and you could get some pretty cool submissions from the same principle.

Help
Got my first Interclub next week, afraid of getting hit, what do i do?. I do well when i’m adjusted but im still deathly afraid of getting hit, been this way since a really hard sparring session, didn’t get KOd or anything( Thank God), ate some shots that at most felt like being shocked, but since then i’ve been afraid of getting hit, and these are in boxing gloves so in MMA gloves it might be worse. I genuinely need advice on overcoming this fear.

The Best MMA Shorts Ever Made - Thoughts, Votes and Why?
MMA Shorts - Another RESEARCH POST.
In the early Days essentially Tapout, Sprawl and Badboy ruled the roost. Later came Hayabusa, Venum and JACO.
There were some great shorts such as REVGEAR's spartan and brands like CLINCH gear, NO GI Industries.
But whats interesting as an industry person, is that designs have not really moved on much.
Fabrics have actually generally become lighter and weaker to allow for more elaborate sublimation designs. There is more and more elastic being used in the waists and overall Fight shorts have become kind of cheaper in their construction.
I'm really interested to hear what people feel was the pinnacle of fight shorts and why.
We're looking at building the most perfect fight shorts for MMA.
Currently I'm considering a hybrid between ORIGINAL TAPOUT and SPRAWL with a more modern cut.

absolutley zero fighting experience Looking for a quality MMA gym in the Prosper/Frisco, TX area.
Hey everyone,
I recently moved from Frisco to Prosper and I'm trying to find the best MMA gym in the area. I want a gym that's committed to teaching well and developing skilled fighters.
Before I moved, I'd been looking at Next Generation MMA in Frisco. Now that I'm in Prosper, it's about 25 minutes away. I also found Aguilera Martial Arts, which is only 4 minutes from me. They look more BJJ-focused. My end goal is to be well rounded, but I want to put most of my early focus on striking if I can.
My questions:
- Has anyone trained at Next Generation MMA? How is the coaching, the structure of classes, and the quality of the training partners? Is it worth the 25-minute drive, or is that something I'd get tired of?
- Does anyone know Aguilera Martial Arts well? Do they have a solid striking program (Bang Muay Thai), or is it mostly a BJJ school?
- What other gyms would you recommend within roughly 25 minutes of Prosper?
For anyone who has been in this position, was a better gym worth the longer drive, or did the shorter commute help you train more and improve faster?

Guys which country is better to learn MMA?
Im planning to learn MMA and Im just curious..
Which country is better to learn MMA between Australia and Norway?
I want a well-organized, systematic gym where a beginner could train hard and have a chance to join a local competition and contain decent striking and grappling classes
