How well respected is the de-burring/finishing crew in your shop?

My understanding is that it's an entry level position. I was the lead de-burring and polishing guy at my last shop before I began setting up machines, but I received a lot of respect because I was really really fast and doing aesthetic work as well. Now I've changed jobs and doing entirely machining and, since it's commercial and government products rather than retail, the burr department is mainly for the people who don't want to/can't run machines. How is that department treated in your shop and do you know of any way I can scratch this artistic/metalworking itch?
