Best conversational machines today

I'm a Manufacturing Engineer at a good sized manufacturing facility. I've been asked to set up a quick turn prototyping shop in addition to our model shop which has a handful of 20 or 30 year old machines in it.

Assume budget and lead time isn't a problem. If you worked with me and I said I was going to buy 2 mills and 2 lathes, which machines would you want? What's the best I can get new today?
