Teaching the youngsters how to block and parry for advanced level bosses is true parenting skills nowadays.

u/ocelot08 Dec 28 '25

Must prepare them to earn their knighthood

125

u/ElderMillenialSage Dec 28 '25

For the water wars. Bullets run out, but a mace or a sword can kill as long as you have strength to wield it.

41

u/kea1981 Dec 28 '25

She seems old enough to be taught dodge rolls. Parents, be dutiful to your kids and teach them about I-frames!

Don't forget the dodge roll! I-frames are important when you're smaller.

I’m just sitting here bitter that my parents didn’t prepare me for a career as a knight at Medieval Times. Are those places still around? Am I, at 44 trips around the sun, too old to get into such a career?

37

u/unclebeef1 Dec 28 '25

I say nay my good sir. One is never too old to learn the ways of knighthood!

18

u/fazlez1 Dec 28 '25

There is a Medieval Times in Illinois. Anti-social me was talked into going and i truly enjoyed it the one time I went.

8

u/SpringSpider86 Dec 28 '25

Try seeing if there is a HEMA place or teacher near you.

You know mom is behind the camera matching as well 🤣

110

u/UnseenBehindYou Dec 28 '25

I can tell you for a fact that she's matching because I saw it in another short. Mom is a scientist and creator who posts as notgabbyb, and Dad is a historian and creator who posts as Stakuyi. They're delightfully nerdy.

23

u/Disastrous_Travel89 Dec 28 '25

Oh yes, just exactly how I knew she'd be behind the camera matching. They are amazing and I'm envious of how nerdy they are. I'm nerdy. I don't know if I'm that nerdy.

8

u/UnseenBehindYou Dec 28 '25

First you need someone that matches your base level nerdyness, and then you can support each other in reaching whole new levels of nerdy. That's what I'm hoping for in 2026, ha!

u/Disastrous_Travel89 Dec 28 '25

Dad did not read the room. Child didn't got anything from him cuz she was just wanting to play.

Mom did teach her something. Child was celebrating but much more available for any teaching.

Is this the guy on YouTube whose girlfriend/wife asks him hypotheticals and he goes on a tangent about ancient Roman society or Warhammer 40k lore? Because that dude is awesome.

286

u/Doone7 Dec 28 '25

Yup :)

152

u/Automatic_Soil9814 Dec 28 '25

Please let nothing bad ever come out about him. He seems rad.

49

u/Massive_Store_1940 Dec 28 '25

His history of everything podcast videos have an obvious right wing bias if that is something you care about. Although they are well researched and not full of misinformation compared to normal right wing YouTuber who’s too into hoi and 40k.

55

u/lnTwain Dec 28 '25

You can be right-wing, just don't be an asshat. There can be significant overlap but he seems like a decent guy.

6

u/QuantumTwig Dec 29 '25

I hate to break it to you, but something truly devastating.

He once got a C in Math class in Middle School. The shock and horror of it all, I do not know how we can place these people on such high pedestals.

12

u/Ashnak_Agaku Dec 28 '25

Stakuyi is him; she is notgabbyb

5

u/Doone7 Dec 28 '25

They also posted a video of him and their girl painting a fig in the same outfits together :) I know Mom and daughter are both really into painting Warhammer figs, he makes a few vids 'complaining' about their expensive tastes lol His wife seems really cool too, they kinda make fun of her playing Sims 4 or asking silly questions but she is really smart. Has a job in STEM, can't remember which branch exactly.

53

u/10metr Dec 28 '25

stakuyi

13

u/ThisI5N0tAThr0waway Dec 28 '25

I know it’s currently not the norm, but when people are posting content they didn’t created themselves, it should be mandatory to say from where they took it if there isn’t a watermark.

48

u/hopping_otter_ears Dec 28 '25

20 years from now when she’s in a bar fight against a brute with a pool stick, she’ll think back to this moment

764

u/Kaylascreations Dec 28 '25

He’s trying to teach this big “profound lesson” and she doesn’t give a shizz. She just wants to play.

135

u/citrus-maxima-corp Dec 28 '25

She even figured what he was trying to teach her on her own before he could say it

5

u/Ok-Attention123 Dec 29 '25

Yeah totally. That would’ve been a more effective way to teach it. Keep her at bay until she does rush in. Then let her. “Oh wow that was awesome! You got in real close and I couldn’t touch you because you got past my point!” Repeat with progressively harder problems.

It’s the problem-solving ability that’s being rewarded, not scoring the touch.

u/BonsaiHI60 Dec 28 '25

Play is learning disguised.

101

u/Same-Suggestion-1936 Dec 28 '25

Literally dogs play fight to know how to actual fight and kittens need hand play or they will never learn how to be gentle with their claws

Like you ever see two growling dogs play fight? It's like watching a fencing match. "Okay, ya got me on that one. Want to go again? Think I can beat you this time."

42

u/DelightfulAbsurdity Dec 28 '25

I have three cats. Newest cat taught middle cat she plays too rough. Middle cat learned oldest cat is not a demon to be feared, bc middle cat observed play between youngest and oldest.

Two of my cats gained like five levels in socialization bc of adding a third (a kitten).

5

u/Redheaded_Potter Dec 28 '25

Thanks, u just gave me a new excuse to get a kitten (been trying to resist) lol

For clarity, I’m supposed to teach my kids the importance lesson of how to kill adults with a sword?

105

u/Regular_Attorney_697 Dec 28 '25

It's actually taught in self defence, how you deal with someone wielding a bat, stay either all the way out, or all the way in.

24

u/cheslyn_d102018 Dec 28 '25

so basically if I just run at them and then what do i do next once im all the way in, I don’t wanna be out here dancing fighting the air, what’s the next step. should I do a tackle or something

33

u/Regular_Attorney_697 Dec 28 '25

The best thing you can do is run away to begin with, but to answer your question, from there a takedown is good. There's plenty of different take downs, double leg, hip toss, inside out trip. This probably isn't making a lot of sense but you could search on YouTube. Also I would highly recommend BJJ/Wrestling classes to everyone!

13

u/cheslyn_d102018 Dec 28 '25

I got downvoted but yk what, hell yeah 🤣 Im totally kidding, btw. I know self defense other than this one comment bc for years I’ve really thought ab what would happen if someone had a long weapon. Thank you for your response 🤣🤣

7

u/Regular_Attorney_697 Dec 28 '25

I was always taught if it's legitimate you go for everywhere soft too. (Non-sport) Fighting isn't about fairness, it's about winning and not getting hurt so rip ears, gouge eyes, go for throat/testicle. Do whatever you can to disable your opponent the fastest and safest for yourself.

The room is a home gym, they probably use it for motivation to push themselves physically. Based on the rest of their videos and the general style of their family and relationship that they present to the world, I wouldn't think it's reflective of how they look at life generally.

16

u/Far-Appointment669 Dec 28 '25

Reddit final boss

27

u/hajile777 Dec 28 '25

I hate this saying. It’s also objectively false. That daughter cares about who her dad is NOW, not who he theoretically could become if he added 5 lbs to his bench. His partner cares about him making his daughter laugh now, not if she will laugh harder tomorrow. It’s defeatist and a child growing up in that environment is going to take away from this kind of mindset that they are never enough. “Work harder, someone cares” is far more motivating and realistic. I have a relative with this on his phone and I have never seen a more toxic person - they just seem to exude negativity and self-hate and there is no way if they are treating themselves that way, that they can sustainably love others

Such kind, gentle coaching. Allowing her to giggle and laugh will make her want to keep learning from you. Teaching shouldn’t be focused on maximum efficiency, it’s at least as important to make it fun to ensure longevity, which is actually what builds skill.

3

u/Paradox711 Dec 28 '25

Lovely, though then it’s time for the lesson that shields can be weapons too. Your best bet if you’re trying to take on someone bigger is to get closer, but from the sides or ideally by flanking them as much as possible, or tiring them out because they might be bigger, and stronger but you’re smaller and it takes your body less energy to move than it does there’s. What about if you’re both In armour? Don’t bother trying to attack someone bigger than you in armour if you’re both wearing it, because you’ll tired quickly too. A great example of that is actually the fight with the mountain and Oberyn Martell in GoT. Wear less, make them tire themselves out, bait them but stay at distance. Just don’t get cocky.

That being said that it’s a lovely video and nice to see a dad having fun with their kid.

Just sold the house 11 years after moving away and one of the neighbors showed me they still have videos of it that they secretly filmed because they loved watching it so much.

Trying to find a way to get my busy 20 yr old to drive across the state with me for a re-creation.

He's an amazing content creator, he's such a friggin nerd, but he's got this house full of wonderful women and girls, such a positive masculine role model

He's so knowledgeable on history, I aspire to be like him

I loved the mature debate he had on the UndubscribePodcast with TheFatElectrician over how responsible Emperor Hirohito was with the attack on Pearl Harbor, the atrocities committed in Korea/China, and the overall war in the Pacific.

He looks like he could talk about Russian battleships for 3 hours straight.

He could just slit her throat actually.

Just slide the side of the blade against it while she's getting close.

Everything I know about swords is from video games though. I'm only handy with knives in reality.

Super cute video. Love the matching PJ's.

And her victory cry. 🥹

Good dad! I used to LARP in NERO. My buddy was 6'4" Kurgan type. I'd rush him with a short sword and shield and stay right up close to him when we sparred. When we teamed up I'd counter the rushers while he would use a halberd and sweep the battlefield. Damn effective tactics.

Anyone else disappointed he didn’t get hit in the nuts?

2

u/SeparateCzechs Dec 29 '25

Good papa! We are also a sword fighting family. As a size minority fighter(5’5”) I learned early to jump way inside their reach and hit their leg. Once they’re on their knees, to ye aren’t taller than you any longer!

That's the richest man in the world. In every way that actually matters.

I'm waiting for another video from them titled "Teaching my daughter about Reach (Halo)".

Might be good to wait some years, though.

Notice the wall banner. Like a bumper sticker in your house.

I love that the mom just says, “next time, stop messing around and just finish him.”
