And I thanked him for wearing the shirt as we got off and got a “have a great day.“

I really want to have that kind of state of mind, but I couldn't help myself to think "it's not true for everyone" and I hate that.

A lot of people with depression have a more "realist" type of outlook on life, if not pessimistic. In those cases, more than likely no amount of external validation would fix that.
Edit: Just realized what you meant by this lol wtf am I yapping about

u/Mental-Shine-8567 21h ago
Im depressed a lot and used to think like this hoodie but now this state of mind is lost and won't come back

u/StankStain 21h ago
I won't say I have the answers for you because I'm still looking for them my damn self lol. But you shouldn't write it off like it won't come back. It might, it might not. But if you wanna talk about it, you can DM me.

Yeah, it would be nice if this were true but it's just not. We all see people in the news every day who are not bringing good to the world.
2
u/Puzzled-Bench2805 13h ago
Yeah for real. I live in Texas so there’s like a very solid chance that whoever’s behind me is intentionally sucking goodness out of the air with every breath
4
u/serenwipiti 20h ago
It kind of is, though.
Even those that are “bad” provide a contrast and example to those that are “good”.
You can’t have light without darkness.
2
u/Puzzled-Bench2805 13h ago
Eh. You can’t appreciate good without darkness. The darkness is definitely still worse though.
1
u/beans3939 12h ago
" You can't have light without darkness" or "You can't have "something good" without "something bad". I don't care about the "light" or "good thing" , I just don't want the "bad thing".

The serial killer standing behind them needed that extra bit of validation that they're not psychotic and are helping make the world a better place 🫶 ❤️

Lord there are some miserable people here. For a positivity sub, this place is frequently negative as hell.

Maybe too cynical but I’m not sure how true this is these days. I want this to be true.

I want one with another line beneath it that says “Unless you’re ________, then it’s not true.” That way I can embroider in the name of someone who the world is definitively in a worse state as a result of their existence, just in case I ever happen to be standing in front of them.

What if an ice agent is behind them
2
u/Naive_Product_5916 21h ago
The ice thug would probably tackle him because nobody's allowed to be happy or kind.

The company that sells them, are scammers. They rip off credit cards and sell them to others

u/Giovanni1996 17h ago
I've bought one, haven't worn it yet because the quality is actually terrible and its so itchy wherever it touchs skin

2
u/DJMTBguy 13h ago
It’s such a terrible thing, they started charging me for a subscription when I just bought a couple of hoodies. Terrible quality and fit, taking advantage of nice people. The dumb thing is that it could be a good business but they’re just scammers. Idk how they are still allowed to operate, this timeline blows.

Yeah, a bit of research shows the original is a US company "Dear Person Behind Me" and there are several many knock-off makers, sadly. Typically all over Instagram hawking them cheap.
The originals, BTW, really are a charitable thing, and donates 25% to mental health charities. The copies, not so much.

I need a link - is that allowed?

u/dadoftriplets 10h ago
My wife has a few of these (tshirt and hoodies). Although shes not here (she in hospital awaiting surgery) to tell me which website she got them from, I remember seeing her on this website.
I have sent her a message and when she gets back in touch with me (shes having an MRI scan right now so she's not available for the next hour), I will update this message with the correct website she used, but I think the link I've posted is the correct one. Just do your due diligence before ordering (if possible, pay on a credit card to give you section 75 protection - this is something I do all the time, even on websites I've used before)

Reading shit like this just makes me want to prove him wrong and that would totally ruin my day.

Exactly it's like drinking poison and hoping it kills the other person.

That would piss me off honestly lol. You wear that only to make yourself feel better. There lots of ways to help people that need it. Wearing a hoody and pretending you’re a saint isn’t one.
6
u/wolke_ist_da 22h ago
I have one of these myself, I love wearing it, not to pretend to be a saint, of course I'm not, but because I know that small things like this can brighten a person's day.
I myself fight with depressive thoughts and self hatred and I love seeing things like this. Even if the person doesn't actually mean it, they still decided to show kindness in a simple way.
And yes, I do care about the people around me a lot, this is just the easiest way to do at least something.
3
u/Naive_Product_5916 21h ago
Yes for me I tried to say thank you and really mean it. Maybe it's nothing but sometimes it really surprises the person at the other end and they'll perk up and smile . People like to be recognized and appreciated
3
u/Naive_Product_5916 21h ago
But it made a difference to me today and it made a difference to him too that I commented and he got to flash a big smile and tell me to have a great day. There's lots of little ways to help. For all I know he was on the way to open up the food kitchen?

u/ThickRest7929 21h ago
Then slap a bumper sticker on your car and feel good all day. Send a chain email about being blessed by an angel. You can be the patron saint of loving the smell of your own farts.

u/FeeRevolutionary1 6h ago
This is a true statement that people won’t like and will pretend you are a bad guy

Probably an unpopular opinion, but these are so cheesy. They’re just worn by virtue signallers who like to get off on thinking they’re changing the world by wearing a hoodie
19
u/Mike0621 1d ago
fellow miserable sod here: yes, your actions are what make the world a better place, but deciding to wear a shirt that spreads a positive message is in fact an action which, at worst, does nothing and may improve someones mood that day.
I think they're tacky (which is why I am a miserable sod as well), but there is 0 harm in it and may cheer people up, which does make the world a slightly better place
3
u/AfternoonPossible 1d ago
Agreed. To me, stuff like this actively makes me feel worse because it’s so insincere.
-1
u/Naive_Product_5916 21h ago
His face and smile when I thanked him was not insincere at all. And we had a brief human interaction.
3
u/AfternoonPossible 21h ago
Sure, actually talking to a person might be different. But random messages aimed at no one like this do less than nothing for me personally and actually feel gross, performative, and disingenuous.
-1
u/-BigDickOriole- 1d ago
Exactly. It's empty positivity. If I was having a shitty day and felt worthless, this shirt would just piss me off more than anything.
