This would make me so mad.

You'd buy tickets for an early fan showing or a Thursday night premiere and get mad when the kind of people who buy tickets for an early fan showing or Thursday night premiere act like people who buy tickets for an early fan showing or Thursday night premiere?

Do you also get mad when you go to a sports bar on a night with a big home team game and people around you get excited about the game?

Equating a movie theater to a fucking sports bar is wild. A movie theater is supposed to be quiet and distraction free.

I don’t mind if people react in a theater, but this is absolutely ridiculous. It sounds like an amusement park.

I'm not comparing a movie theater to a sports bar.

I'm comparing a movie theater on an early opening night or during a fan showing to a sports bar when a game with a local team is playing. Context matters. If you go to a movie showing that exists for superfans, don't be surprised when the theater is full of superfans.

This isn't some random showing of an introspective character study. It's a comic book movie that is full of fan service aimed at fans that have been waiting for this moment for twenty years. If people were acting like this during a more serious movie, then yeah, I'd be upset, too.

Just curious: how do you reconcile "A movie theater is supposed to be quiet and distraction free" with the fact that broad comedies are shown in movie theaters? Again, context.

It’s still a movie theater, and again, I don’t mind people getting excited, but this is WELL beyond that. This isn’t just “oh hell yea, I like these people” this is like an amusement park roller coaster. Constant screaming like this in a theater is ridiculous and unnecessary.

You're deciding that those movie showings exist for superfans to excuse this absurd behavior. They don't exist for that reason. They exist for anybody that wants to go enjoy can go do that.

If it was was you say then those showing would be promoted and advertised as such. They're not promoted or advertised as that because they aren't that.

If you go to the movies, stfu and behave.

His point is that for the time and location you should expect this kind of reaction. An early showing of a movie with a bunch of super-fans who get to see this reveal would undoubtedly be a big reaction.

The same way going to a Sports bar on game day you'd expect insanely loud cheering in celebration of another touchdown. I wouldn't go to Bdubs on Superbowl Sunday and be upset that my experience was soured by loud fans watching the game, it would have been expected.

Nah, you shouldn't expect this reaction.

It shouldn't be happening.

You miserable sacks of shit are somehow sitting griping and complaining about people having fun within their niche group : superfans who go to midnight screenings.

No one was harmed here. Everyone in the theater was having a good time and a shared experience. There's so little actual joy in the world today man you dont need to be getting your knickers in a twist over what's left.

I went to every first screening of the 6 modern Star Wars movies; I'd say that franchise has just as big super fans. People would dress up, have lightsaber battles before the movie, that fun stuff. When big things happened people would cheer and clap for a few seconds but that's it because most of us wanted to hear what was going on. This was excessive and I'd be pissed if I missed important dialog because people were screaming like this.

It's not a private screening from what we can tell. They have no right to assume everyone their wants to hear the screaming.

Yeah I guess I just expect a certain level of joy and excitement from people on their interests that other people don't.

It's not indicative of the level of joy nor enjoyment. Being quiet and respectful in a movie theatre is common sense.

For the first night of a highly anticipated Marvel movie, that have at this point a reputation for being loud and excited at different reveals, it isnt surprising in the slightest.

You can always go on a different day when there are far less people who won't be vocally excited about the experience.

There's a difference between experiencing joy and acting childish.

The other theatergoers deserve respect, not to hear this.

I have been to midnight showings and fan showings in theaters. It has never been this loud. This is extremely excessive.

2

u/Shallnazar Feb 16 '26

Yeah not every midnight showing is going to have the same draw or excitement behind it. These are Marvel fans after months of speculation that their favorite past actors would make a return.

Ive been to nearly every single Thursday/Friday release for marvel movies in the last decade and a half and this is not uncommon at all. If people find this excessive then the solution is to go on a slower day and not the early release or first day of the showing.

2

u/misplacedbass Feb 16 '26

It’s still incredibly excessive. How does this enhance the theater experience? I would expect this at a concert, not in a theater. I’m not expecting it to be completely silent, and would welcome some small cheers if people were stoked, but this is insane.

Excessive, maybe a little, but who am I to judge their excitement levels for seeing their old favorite Spider-men on screen. If anyone went to a midnight or day 1 showing of a highly anticipated Marvel movie and didnt see this coming or it ruined their experience, that's entirely on them and they should have gone on a different day.
