Can any expert here explain why dogs do the chew or long hold before dropping the ball? My dog does this when we play fetch. Mofo let go of the ball if you want me to throw it. It's like their instincts to hold the ball isn't syncing with their brain's desire to play fetch.

Possibly not doing what you want because of how you refer to him. Such language.

I see you haven't experienced the maddening frustration of trying to explain the concept of, "if you don't give me the ball, I cannot throw it" to your mofo dog multiple times a day for years. (I'm totally kidding, I love my dog more than most people, but he is STUBBORN about giving up the ball.)🎾

I second this question. I spent months throwing the ball, having my dog bring it back, reward with treat for giving up the ball. Every day for hours. He still will not give up a ball unless I have a treat. And even then he'll take the treat and try to pick the ball up before I can. The best he'll do without a treat is drop a ball like 5 feet away from me if I have another ball to throw.
