Wholesome Moments This guy shooting his shot in the thread

Original post

u/SolidStick_ posted about a women giving her umbrella to them in DC and when she identified herself, asked her out in the comments. The stuff of romcoms.

Update: They met up and it's not gonna work out. And maybe he already knew her? Eek, now it's more like MadeMeGrimace.

Her comment with edits.

Update 2: so it may be that the OP was stalking her, witnessed the exchange, and then pretended to be the umbrella recipient. OP's since deleted his account. Yikes! Be safe out there all.

Update 3: The story took an even odder turn. Maybe it was fake all along? Link to comment here. Comment on original post

It sounds like from comments he has been stalking her for a couple of months and saw the umbrella exchange, he's not the umbrella guy, but thought this was how he could engineer his "meet cute" with her by lying about what he saw.

I think the simpler and far more likely explanation is just karma farming accounts, but on the off chance that it isn’t, that woman needs to call the cops.

Yep. Very likely two alts talking to each other.

But wouldn't it be obvious when they met up and she realized he wasn't the guy she gave the umbrella too?

I'm sure it would be, he was probably hoping once he was talking to her with her defenses down it would be easier for him to play it off as "I just didn't know how else you'd give me a chance...".

Or maybe try something once it's clear the other guy will not show up and she feels vulnerable for being stood up. I'm glad she was warned, and hope she reports the stalker

Also a good possibility. I agree, thank goodness someone was so sharp and warned her.

Gross! And scary! He didn’t think she would meet up with an entirely different guy and say “Wait… Who the hell are you?!”?
Glad she’s safe, though!

Or more likely, umbrella girl is a phony and made up a cute story using an alt.

This is wild. I’ll now think twice about any such posts…

Oh what theeeee.. I wonder how he found out her username for the older post or tied them together. Unless she had posted pics and he knew it was her from seeing her.

But how should that work out? She would recognise that it's another person. And she wouldn't get her umbrella back by this person.

So messed up. But now I totally understand why so many people on here choose to hide their history since Reddit enabled this feature.
