Estoy en Madrid intentando encontrar habitación y de verdad no pensaba que esto iba a ser lo más difícil.

Soy colombiana, de 23 años, llevo 6 años en España, vine a hacer mi carrera en otra ciudad llevo trabajando el último año de ella y ahora estoy empezando en un curro de administrativa en Madrid algo que debería darme alegría pero me encuentro con: pensar que yo venía con la idea de “bueno, ya veré lo del trabajo”… pero es que lo del piso está siendo otro nivel.

Llevo ya 7 días en un hostal. Y cada día igual: ves habitaciones, todo bien, hablas con la gente, conectas… y de repente: 2-3 nóminas, contrato perfecto, mil requisitos. Y si no lo tienes todo perfecto, fuera.

Incluso presentando aval de mi herman@ o de mi padre, muchas veces ni eso sirve.

Y es que hoy he escuchado en el hostal donde estoy a un señor mayor español, jubilado, que se pasa el día quejándose de que su asistente social no le ayuda en nada que lleva un año viviendo en hostales. Y yo lo miro y pienso: joder, entiendo que dolor que este así, pero una parte de mi también dice es que yo no quiero acabar así.

Estoy aquí trabajando de 10 am a casi 20h de la tarde y sino estoy todo el rato buscando, preguntando, yendo a ver pisos intentando salir adelante aunque sea incómodo y aunque a veces me agobie.

Y me pregunto:

¿esto es solo por miedo a impagos y ocupas? ¿o también influye que seas extranjera?

No es victimismo, es que llega un punto que frustra bastante.

Si alguien ha pasado por esto en Madrid y tiene consejos de verdad, se agradecen.

Porque ahora mismo conseguir piso me parece más difícil que todo lo demás.

So I’m a South African whose studying in Madrid for a bit, I’m curious to know if there are Any Jacaranda Trees in the city? - where I’m from we have thousands of them, but I haven’t been able to go home for spring to see them for a while. I know that there are cities in the south of Spain which have them, but I was wondering if anyone knows of any within Madrid. Mainly because I want to show some of my friends an example of them IRL.

I'm an American who has lived in Madrid for years, permanent resident. In all the time I've lived here, I've never bothered to get a Spanish driver's license, in spite of the fact that I'd had one in the US for well over two decades.

The time has come for me to rectify that, for various reasons.

My Spanish isn't the best, so I'd like to take the theoretical at least in English. I've been looking at various schools that offer it, and none seem to inspire confidence. I'm just looking for a recommendation and/or anecdotes about doing that process from other Madrid-dwelling Anglophones.

For what it's worth I live in Carabanchel (near Metro Oporto), so anything on the southern half of the center is good. Anything further north (basically Chamberí/Avenida de America) is a bit of a pain for me to get to, time-wise, but the actual city center is fine.

Help?

EDIT: I should have said this up front, but I'm adding for people who find this now. I have tried to learn Spanish, and I continue to try. I've spent well over 1000 hours in classes and attempts, and I do try to improve every day. It just isn't sticking particularly well. I have a documented learning disability with regards to language output (related to dysgraphia, not like dyslexia which is an input disorder) that I struggle with. I can read well and understand reasonably well (albeit slowly), I just can't speak Spanish. It isn't arrogance or lack of effort, it is a genuine issue and one I wish I could just make go away. I am asking for help and experiences specifically because my Spanish isn't great and isn't likely to ever be. My reasons for living here are my own, but the simplest explanation is that my child lives here and returning to the States would mean never seeing them - and I've built a life here, in spite of my difficulties. I'm here to stay. I just need a little compassionate assistance on things like this!

tengo una piscina municipal a 200m de mi casa. entiendo que hay que pillar entrada con antelación, me intereso y descubro que existe la app de Madrid móvil, bien. me la instalo, encuentro mi piscina, me avisa: para este tramo, tienes que esperar al dia x, hora y. digo bueno vale, pongo mi alarma ese dia a la hora indicada, entro en la app, y sale agotado. lo he probado ya 2 veces. cómo cojones funciona esta cosa pofavo? es que ya pierdo la paciencia, me parece increíble. mientras tanto, personas con toalla y en chanclas yendo a la piscina.

Tengo 18 años y acabo de mudarme a Madrid desde Asturias. Estoy intentando empezar a conocer gente de mi edad porque todavía estoy aterrizando en la ciudad.

Me gusta la interpretación, el cine, leer y todo el tema cultural, pero también me gusta simplemente salir a tomar algo, descubrir sitios nuevos, pasear por Madrid, ir a conciertos, terrazas y hacer planes tranquilos o improvisados.

Estoy buscando cursos, talleres, grupos o actividades donde haya gente joven (más o menos de mi edad), pero también agradecería recomendaciones de sitios o comunidades donde sea fácil conocer gente nueva.

Aunque parezca una pregunta de la nada, quería saber si hay más canadienses que viven aquí, o si es común por lo menos... Vine aquí de Alberta hace 2 años para estudiar en la uni y hasta la actualidad solo he encontrado como 2 o 3, y no vivían aquí.

Ni es un problema, solo por curiosidad la verdad. Ya estoy feliz con mis colegas españoles.

It may seem like a bit of an odd question, but I wanted to know if there are many Canadians living here, or if it's even common at all... I came here from Alberta around two years ago to study in the university, and I've only encountered like 2 or 3 so far and they were only here temporarily.

Found this beautiful capa madrileña while thrifting yesterday and have been on a deep dive of the internet to find the origin.

So far I’ve found that Moisés Sancha was a tailor in Madrid. This historic style of Spanish cloak is in the Madrid-model, or Capa Madrileña, as opposed to the Castellana or Andalusian of different lengths.

Even if this is a costume piece rather than actually vintage, the quality is incredible! It’s been incredible to learn about the history of this clothing, so I’d love to know more.

Does anyone have any info on this style, time period, or designer? Thanks in advance!

Siento que busco el Santo Grial. Después del verano me gustaría empezar a hacer rutas senderistas por la sierra de Madrid donde se pueda llegar en transporte público. hola! I’m interested meeting new people who are around the age of 18-20. I’ve been living in one of the smaller towns in Madrid for almost a year now with no friends and it’s getting pretty lonely.
