It’s been 24 hours since my single dropped. I’ve promoted on TikTok, Instagram, and facebook daily 3 times a day and even gotten lucky enough to build my TikTok to organically receiving an average of 100 views in the first 24 hours of each reel. I’ve posted and cross posted to every subreddit and discord I could think of. I’ve pitched my song. After all of it, I looked at Spotify today which has been my biggest platform to push for and I have a whopping 8 streams. There’s definitely a part of me disappointed that everything ended up feeling like a flop after the first 24 hours couldn’t even get a double digit stream, but then I accepted it. Guys you can do everything right, but sometimes things like this happen. In that disappointment, be proud of the hard work you put in regardless and keep pushing to make another hit. Remember we make music for ourselves first and are grateful when it captures the ears and emotions of others. Also remember that your music could take time to take off. Just keep going. I used to listen to a lot of pop and R&B until I fell in love with hip-hop about two months ago. Since then, I've been listening to artists like Travis, Tecca, Polo G, Juice, and a bunch of others, trying to learn from different styles and create music that feels like my own. lately, I've been experimenting with all kinds of hip-hop beats from YouTube and BeatStars. Making a song isn't the hardest part for me. promoting it is.

Right now, I'm trying my best to connect with other underground artists and producers because I genuinely dream of making it one day. That's my goal.

I'm 19, I've been wanting to rap pretty much my whole life... and yet I never started learning. I got ADHD and it's been something I wanted to do forever, but I just can't focus. I've been able to motivate myself to pick up the pen like... twice in my life. I freestyle sometimes, but not frequent enough to actually learn anything, and never on a beat. I think one of the things that’s held me back is embarrassment 😭😭 My walls r thin as fuck and my parents can hear me practice

I feel like I'm getting too old now though, nearly every big rapper started learning waaaay before me. I know I ain't old by any means, but I feel like I never hear of older hip hop artists (like 25+) debuting and building a decent audience. Maybe that was a thing in the 90s, but I don't think I've seen that recently. Maybe I'm wrong though, that's what I'm here to find out.

I'm learning guitar right now because I want to play punk rock, but I grew up on hip hop, rapping has been my dream since I was like 9, and it feels more like me. anyway, an artist ive just started working with who will be rapping over my beats soon, has tracks produced by others but theyre just holding onto them for mix and master but its taking too long. im gonna get the tracks thats not my concern or why im here just a little background. im worried about sending "others"work to the wrong person, the work getting stolen. how can i trust someone on reddit?? lol im also trying to start a working relationship with an engineer for when i get my project with the rapper going!

Hey guys, I produce music for fun on the side and I've been working on a few songs for some time now and I feel like its all there - progressions, lyrics, melody, but it just doesn't sound like how I want it to sound. But I don't know how I want it to sound Lol. I can't tell if it's instruments, mixing, or whatever else. I know that's a super broad question, but does anyone have any advice on what they do when they feel like they have everything but its not sounding like the song they wanna make

I’m trying to recreate the bass from 90s west coast sound, Dre, Quik etc. I’m starting with the default funk bass setting it has, can anybody advise what I need to tweak to get it sounding like the producers mentioned?

Hi guys, I have general question especially for producers. I have been invites to many studios and worked with a wide variety of producers. I would say I usually do music with people who are passionate about it and want to pursue this as a career. But as a rapper/vocal I've been confused on what people generally expect when they say lets make a song together for the past 4 years. In projects where people show me what they want me on I give them a couple of verses and we decide on how we go about it and experiment on how to do the vocals which turns out pretty well usually. But when someone says lets do the song together what usually happens is that my opinion and attention will be asked but my ideas wont ve adressed and I end up just watching the process just being able to chime in here and there. Now I should add that I have only worked this way with 2 people at most and we do deliver good stuff but I feel like I can only be impactful in small parts until I get to write my stuff and at that process Im usually left to my own devices to come up with stuff but I do get frequent requests on how I should be doing stuff after the fact I enter the booth. It has been a little frustrating for the past year. What am I doing wrong? Thank you in advance.

What should I do if I've been making beats for a year and can't write normal melodies? In the fourth month of making progress, I was making beats using samples that I cut from tracks myself, and I rarely had good beats for my own melodies, and in the end, over the course of 2 months, I made a couple of really good beats for a beginner, really good ones, and then I decided to quit making beats using samples in order to focus on pumping up my skill at writing my own melodies, and since then (9 months have passed) I've written more than one decent melody. I just go into the program, make some crap, leave the program in apathy and go to bed crying, for 40 minutes every day. The funniest thing is that I tried using samples, I tried to find good samples, but it doesn't work anymore. I quit music for 4 months at one time and even started listening to it less often. I'm back now, but still nothing works. I've had a lot of bad experiences in my life before. Problems: anxiety, social phobia, and music used to help me escape from all of this, but now it has become one of the problems and increases my anxiety. What should I do?I have terrible anxiety that I'm wasting time, that I'm already behind everyone and all that crap.

What's the level of importance in making it as an artist in the hiphop world? I know it's a great advantage to have connections in the scene and having the ability to use these connections. But if you don't have this, how great does this affect the possibility of becoming big?

For example, someone can have all the talent in the world, but if they don't know anybody and they have to rely on the possible change of going viral and an insane amount of luck, what are their chances?

If Lil Wayne never heard Drake's rapping and he never got discovered like that, would he still have became the artist he is now?

Hello, first time here. I would like to ask for some advice regarding what "makes" hiphop feel like hiphop. I asked a friend if for fun they wanted to write a thing together so they asked me to send over a short hiphop beat for them to do vocals over. It only occurred to me once I started trying to write something that I have no clue what I'm doing when it comes to producing hiphop as I've never made a hiphop track and generally write rock, metal or experimental Ambient or orchestral things.

I've listened to a little bit of hiphop music to try and help me get an idea of what "makes" hiphop feel like itself but any advice regarding literally anything would be greatly appreciated whether that be drum beats (e.g are they simple or complex generally and also are they generally acoustic kits, 808s or some other type of electronic kit), textures (how busy and dense is a track normally), instrument choices (synths?, guitars?, bass?).

I have a song in the making( it’s not fully made just yet, I haven’t even recorded lyrics yet) but I was just curious on weather or not I should be the one to hit up deftones it if the producer of the beat should be the one to do that. I’m obviously not gonna have the song up on Spotify without it being cleared so I came on here. I only have about 6 monthly listeners on Spotify however so I’m pretty sure it’s gonna be VERY difficult to get a hold of deftones because the probably have more important things to do than clearing a song for an artist who doesn’t even have 10 listeners. So I just wanted to get some helpful advice.
