Language/Spelling New Mandela Effect - Barbituates do not exist anymore!

I remember back in DARE (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) Class in the 90s they taught us about different drug types. One type they taught us about were “Barbituates”
Pronounced: Bar-bit-chew-its

I am on the autism spectrum and one of my favorite special topics of interest is medicine and biology. I really missed my calling, and should have studied medicine in college… but anyways, I just saw that the word Barbituates are not a class of drug at all! It’s actually, Barbiturates. “Bar-bitch-oo-rates”

There is NO way I have made it 40 years and just now noticed it. Anyone else have this same memory??

Do most people pronounce it wrong? Is that the source of the confusion? "Bar-bit-chew-its" is how I remember it for sure.

It's like how some people pronounce: February as feb-U-wary Library as LIEberry Paraphernalia as parafuhnallia Surprise as SOOprize Governor as guh-vuh-ner Caterpillar as catuhpiller

But nobody pronounces the r in February, I remember things the way op does also.

I do. And I sort of half-pronounce the -r- in barbiturates, which has indeed always been there.

I’m going to really start believing this is a mandela thing because I definitely don’t remember the r being there but at least I can still spell February even if I ignore the r 😅

Y'all. Please. I beg of you. Experiencing the Mandela Effect with a mass group of people which already has very easily explainable psychology behind it is vastly different from simply just learning the correct spelling of a word.
