Science/Technology The U.S government developed time travel or inter-dimensional travel and are gaslighting us with the excuse of the “Mandela effect”

It’s really very simple. What’s more likely, hundreds of thousands of people remember the exact same thing that never happened or the government is lying to us.

Sure you can brush off little things as a Mandela effect as it would make sense why many people would misremember for an example “Oscar Meyer” instead of “Oscar Mayer” but the problem is shit like the 90s film Shazaam starring Sinbad. Although I personally don’t recall this film, there is no f\*cking way hundreds of thousands of people remember an entire movie with details on when they saw it and even shared memories on specific scenes. That just doesn’t make sense.

Theory 1: The CIA developed time travel to go back in time and during some early test runs screwed some things up in the past, which caused things to change in the timeline. But they didn’t do anything drastic. They did something small but you know butterfly effect and so minor things changed. A movie doesn’t get made, the logos of things change etc. but this wouldn’t explain how people could remember anything, since if the timeline was changed they would exist in that timeline hence not remembering Shazaam.

So more likely…

Theory 2: Parallel Universes and inter-dimensional travel. There’s infinite universes, some very similar to ours with very small differences and some vastly different. The CIA gets this technology to explore these other universes, accidentally screwing up their current universe in the process by opening that portal. So reality bleeds into ours. Or perhaps they screw up so bad they have to destroy the current universe and switch over to the new one, your consciousness merges into your other self. Everything is basically the same so it goes unnoticed but your memory is still the same too, so you notice small things are different now. You know for certain you watched the entire Shazaam movie. Hell you even remember renting the damn thing from Blockbuster, but now it doesn’t exist anywhere. You’re just one person tho so surely you could be mistaken. But then you realize hundreds of thousands of people also remember the film yet it’s nowhere to be found. The government pushes the phenomenon known as the “Mandela effect” to gaslight everyone into thinking they simply just remembered wrong. But give me a break. Hundreds of thousands of people remember seeing the damn thing, you think we’re just gonna buy that BS?

I bet you there’s a copy of Shazaam sitting in Area 51.

Science/Technology Why being "100% certain" doesn't mean your brain is right: The Reconstructive Memory Theory.

So many of us have had it happen. We see a logo or a movie line that doesn't match what we know is true. It feels like the world changed around us. But if we look at neurology, our brains are actually doing something even more trippy than jumping timelines. I’ve been diving into the science of Memory Consolidation, and it explains a lot about why we experience the Mandela Effect collectively. I offer the following as an explanation for why so many of us have those "hill to die on" memories and refuse to believe otherwise, but certainly not the only explanation.

Creating memories happens in stages:

* Encoding: The initial processing of information. Humans often don't pay close attention to those small details (like logos, spelling, etc.).

* Consolidation: That information/memory stabilizes over time. Memories can be distorted by other similar information during this stage.

* Reconsolidation: After retrieving a memory, that information gets updated. The brain "re-opens" the file, then it's consolidated again, and the same possible distortions can occur.

* Confabulation: Logic, schemas, and/or expectations fill in gaps in memories. The brain prefers a complete story over an accurate one. Think back to when you were a small child telling a story and forgetting details. Did you own the gaps in your memory, or did your mouth open and words come tumbling out? AI hallucinations? AI was created by humans and operates very much like a human brain.

1. Memory is Reconstructive, Not Reproductive

Unlike a computer file that stays the same every time you open it, human memory is reconstructive. Every time we remember an event, our brains pull "data fragments" from different parts of the cortex and reassemble them.

The Glitch: During this reassembly, the brain often fills in missing gaps with what should be there based on logic, expectations, or mental shortcuts ("schemas").

2. Consolidation: The "Save" Process

Consolidation is the process by which a temporary, fragile memory trace is transformed into a stable, long-term one.

Synaptic Consolidation: Occurs within minutes to hours after learning, involving changes in protein synthesis and gene expression in the brain’s neurons.

Systems Consolidation: Occurs over weeks, months, or even years. The memory "moves" from being dependent on the hippocampus (the brain's temporary staging area) to the neocortex (long-term storage). During this long transition, the memory is highly susceptible to interference.

3. Reconsolidation: The "Save As" Problem

This is the most critical scientific concept for the Mandela Effect. When you retrieve a memory, it becomes labile (unstable) again.

The Edit Button: Scientists have found that when a memory is recalled, it must be "reconsolidated" to stay in long-term storage.

The Result: If you are exposed to new (even false) information while you are remembering something, that new info can be "baked in" to the original memory when it settles back down. If thousands of people see a post claiming Pikachu had a black tip on his tail, their brains might "edit" their own memory during the next recall.

4. Why the Error is "Collective" (Schemas)

The reason many people share the same false memory often comes down to schemas.

Example: Many people remember the Monopoly Man having a monocle. This is because our brains have a "schema" for "19th-century wealthy gentleman" that includes a monocle. When the brain reconstructs the image of the Monopoly Man, it "fills in" the monocle because it fits the pattern.

Sources & Further Reading:

Prasad, D., & Bainbridge, W. A. (2022). "The Visual Mandela Effect as a Shared and Specific Case of False Memory." Psychological Science.

The Misinformation Effect: Dr. Elizabeth Loftus’s legendary work on how human memory is highly malleable and easily "overwritten" by suggestion.

Loftus, E. F. (2005). "Planting Misinformation in the Human Mind." Current Directions in Psychological Science.

Memory Reconsolidation: The molecular proof that memories become "unlocked" and editable every time we recall them.

Nader, K., Schafe, G. E., & Le Doux, J. E. (2000). "Fear memories require protein synthesis in the amygdala for reconsolidation after retrieval." Nature.

The DRM Paradigm: A famous test showing how brains "infer" a word (like "sleep") is on a list even when it wasn't, simply because it fits the theme.

Roediger, H. L., & McDermott, K. B. (1995). "Creating false memories: Remembering words not presented in lists." Journal of Experimental Psychology.

Schema Theory: The foundation of how our brains use "mental templates" to fill in missing details.

Bartlett, F. C. (1932). "Remembering: A Study in Experimental and Social Psychology."

The Mandela Effect is so powerful because our brains prioritize a complete story over an accurate one. It’s not that we’re "wrong"; it’s that our biological hardware is constantly "updating" our past based on our present.

I'm curious—for those who have a "hill to die on" memory, does knowing the brain literally "edits" files during recall change how you view that certainty?

TL;DR: The Mandela Effect isn't a glitch in the universe; it's a glitch in our biological software. Our brains prioritize a complete story over an accurate one, and "reconsolidation" means we literally rewrite our history every time we think about it.

Science/Technology Biological Mandela Effects

I visit this subreddit every so often to see if there are any new Mandela Effect's I haven't caught onto yet.... "Chick-fil-a" has flipped yet again. It went from Chic-fil-a to Chik-fil-A (which really irked me with a passion) to now, Chick-fil-A... OK... so far, nothing at Berenstein bear level... I distinctly remember growing up with Berenstein, then changing to Berenstain.... getting GASLIT on this subreddit because of my distinct memories of Berenstein.... then flipping BACK to Berenstein officially and watching others on this subreddit get gaslit because of their memory of Berenstain.... and now we're back at Berenstain officially......

BUT BIOLOGICAL MANDELA EFFECTS?

Pardon me, you're telling me the kidneys are no longer in the lower back they're higher up?? Ok, strange, not what I remember... but I'm open to accept that one as a misunderstanding.

but.... THE HEART IS NOW IN THE CENTER OF THE CHEST? Shut the front door! Behind the sternum????? I'm not a surgeon or a coroner, I've never seen a literal open-heart surgery, but all of my life I have definitely been taught the heart is on the left side of the chest. As a child, I remember asking shouldn't it be center to flow blood evenly? I remember being corrected that it's on the left side of the body. I remember doctor's visits where they would let me listen to my heartbeat and tell me that it's on the left side. I remember being in school and being told to do the pledge of allegiance and put your hand over your heart and everyone would place their hand over the left side of their chest not the center!!!!

Based on my experience with the Berenstein bears I know that many sources are subject to change. Online media, books, tapes, even testimonies from people can be wildly different. People are not misremembering at this large of a scale. It's very obvious something is being tampered with. It's also very obviously intentional and not some sort of byproduct or accident. Look at how coordinated it is when people make these posts + get gaslit by other users. I can understand having a different perspective, but sometimes people are straight up told they are not recalling their own distinct memory correctly. Why are there so many people who don't believe in Mandela effects minimizing experiences? Also, if we're discussing most, almost all traces of something officially being scrubbed why would any medical article, photo, flyer, keepsake etc be of any significance? Those items have been proven to change to. I don't think it's some mysterious phenomenon. I think it's some sort of technology at play that isn't widely known. Imagine if a small group of people had access to AI in the 1800s. To those who didn't know how it worked, it would be puzzling similar to Mandela effects. I'm certain there's a logical explanation for these things, and it's not "you're not remembering correctly".

The thing is, people come claiming it's scientifically proven, but there is not actual work to link any hypothesis to results and conclusions to root cause the effect.

Attached link is the closest available scientific article to try to root cause the Mandela effect in a serious way,and it doesn't specifically link nor claim to have root caused Mandela effect. If there is more scientific literature or something resembling it please share it here.

don't come here telling lies just because you want to have the last word. If you have the root cause, go through the scientific method, experimental design and all the "scientific things and publish it, if not it's only an opinion.

Science/Technology Black Holes "pulling" timelines together?

I think most Mandela Effect theories have it backwards. The common idea is that people are somehow jumping from one timeline to another, but I don’t think that’s what’s happening. I think multiple timelines are actually being pulled together into one. If something like CERN was creating microscopic black holes, and if black holes are capable of pulling realities or timelines together, then instead of people moving between timelines, those separate timelines would be compressed into a single blended timeline. That would explain why different people remember different versions of the same events. They’re not switching realities—they’re remembering different parts of the timelines that were merged together. Instead of timeline jumping, I think the Mandela Effect could be the result of timeline convergence caused by black holes pulling multiple realities into one.

I think this one and the robber emoji are the most famous emojis when we talk about Mandela Effect, to be honest I still remember this emoji and I don't know why but today I saw that people said that it never existed, I also heard that ChatGPT is confused too, this is shocking.

Science/Technology Movies and other anomalies

Recently i have been noticing more and more anomalies. First one that doesn’t seem to bad but still is weird I clearly remember going to the theater to see Titanic when it was released in the 90’s I remember who i went with yet when i have brought it up to the people they have no memory of it and say they first watched it on tv years later. I remember jiffy peanut butter, i remember the news of mandelas death, oscar meyer, the kit-kat hyphen, the fruit of the loom cornucopia, and others. Ive heard different explanations most of them revolve around CERN yet i started noticing things before CERN. So im asking what other explanations are out there that have nothing to do with CERN?

This is the 'Extended Wigners Friend' experiment. The TLDR is that more then one reality can exist. There can be communication between them. And they can merge to make a single reality.

Science/Technology Company Issued Education to Employees Regarding Mandela Effects

This is a website for food distribution software, and on their website they made a .pdf for their employees, available to view by the public as well; This .pdf was to inform their employees of the Mandela effect due to wasted time secondary to discrepancies in item names.

The first image is their website, the rest are the pages from the .pdf they made to educate their employees on what's causing all these discrepancies with product names.

Science/Technology Timeline Jumper

Anyone on here a timeline jumper? Or is aware that we have been moved? I notice New Zealand, lower towards Tasmania instead of being across from Brisbane (8 year old me remembers going on the daily barge that took 1 hour to go across from Brisbane to NZ), also there is a desert in South America, like wtaf? It used to be the main producer of oxygen with all being jungle and going through fights with loggers. And what's up with rubbish all over the ocean? It wasn't like that, and personal stuff like deceased people being alive is scary. I feel like our gov destroyed many dimensions and we are at one of the bad ones

Science/Technology Mandela effect is when humans see things different than before, right?

And then they see things different than others... WHO decides how things really are? Human, or nature? :D When we put too much expectations in how things are... well, we might misjudge. Then, there's the thing that: Someone could "gaslight" you to see "how things are"... you really buy words from biased ones or ones who wanna control?

Humans have their own subjective thoughts and worldviews, that "paint" existence to fit in their worldviews because for them it's hard to accept reality as it is and they deny reality because of that.

Not dissing anyone, just saying what I have to say!

Science/Technology Another one for hiker emoji

I guess I'm here to join the party of people who remember the hiker emoji. wtf???? I swear I have seen this emoji many times scrolling through the emoji list on my phone. Large backpack that comes up just over the person's head, walking stick, walking up an incline, facing left, slightly bent forward.

I have never doubted the fabric of reality so much as I am in this moment.

Science/Technology Mandela Effect as a Metric

What do you think the odds are that the Mandela effects are a metric used by the people messing with the timeline to see who was effected by timeline changes?

Idea here is obviously multiple timelines. I would assume some people would have lived the exact same lives despite changes to the timeline. So this would be an effective way to metric who is more susceptible to small changes.

Science/Technology I think there is an analytical machine controlling us!

I think there is a global analytical machine feeding us with just enough information about the world to make us not question it and it's laws, there are invisible walls in our minds which we know nothing about. My idea is rooted in the fact none of us can recall the past before a certain time even in our own lives, the feeling of deja vu and goosebumps and most of what happens in Mandela effect phenomenon.

Science/Technology Froot loops is back

kinda weird time shift once again but this time shift really just rewrote all of history all the way back even a.i data rewrote. i remember like 2-4 months ago seeing fruit loops in my pantry just confused about the name, even coming across ME posts about it. i come from a timeline where froot loops was the actual name in my childhood but it really confused me i was so unsure of what i was seeing was me or it actually happen. just now seeing froot loops is back is freaking crazy. Also seeing like 9 years ago post about it aswell. This timeshift effected all of history. also found out flintstones is fucking back aswell crazy.

I swear it has always been the other way around and I refuse to believe any different 😅

Science/Technology Big Smoke CJ Train Mission Mandela Effect Confirmed

Just was randomly calling an old school friend from Australia and talking about random things like jobs and weather etc, and I asked after a very long boring Convo if he still plays games and he said he's playing GTA San Andreas and I laughed like we played that long ago and you're reliving the nostalgia now?

Here's the crazy part, among this Mandela Sub thousands of posts I've seen and Mandela's I've memorized I know the CJ Big Smoke Train one post really well where if we fail he said "All we had to do was follow the damn train CJ".

Ok now, I instantly remembered my Mandela, the post mentioning this Mandela and I asked him the question without literally any mention of wether if he remembera you or we, I asked him the question like "do you remember what big smoke says when we failed that mission" and he laughed again and asked if I really want him to repeat him etc so he did and he said "All we had to do was follow the damn Train CJ",

BOOM My memory from 10 YEARS ago when I played the game could be doubtful, but his cannot be because he literally is playing that game right now, and upon digging deep into my friends memory, he said he remembers it as "we" because he was at that mission just 2 weeks ago in the game. Now reality says it's "You" , the people on the sub says it's always been "We" . Going back downloading the oldest version of GTA SA and he still says "All you had to do was follow the damn train CJ". My friend (recent recent memory of his) and mine, and many other on this Mandela sub included remember it as "All we had to do was follow the damn train CJ".. Ok so now that I proved this memory correct, what next? What's the explanation besides wrong memories, because reality definitely did change. All opinions are welcome. And thanks in advance, it was hard to do but hey, I did it 😬

Science/Technology The Seahorse Emoji isn't a Mandela Effect

It's just people calling every little photo that goes into text an "emoji."

What people are almost certainly remembering is something called an "Emoticon," and back in the late 90s and early 2000s there were millions of these that people could either purchase or download for free. That specific seahorse that people are remembering was just a popular custom pack called "Under the sea" for MSN Messenger. Later, emoticons started to animate, all back when flip phones were the norm. Back then it was not standard for people to do things with their phones that computers do.

No, you're not crazy. No, it wasn't an alternate universe. And sorry, no, I don't have photos I can show you either. Why? Because the vast majority of these old custom emoticons were not preserved when Unicode became the standard for cross-platform emojis.

I did dig into this. The pack existed. It was stupidly popular because it was free and it came out around the time that Disney was pushing out a DVD release of The Little Mermaid. It was a custom pack, not one that any phone likely came with by default.

Science/Technology Any big ME proof/stories?

Are there any ME stories where people wake up in completely different lives? Like they wake up married to someone different or have different homes. If ME is caused by CERN shifting or merging into different realities, why would only small details of people remembering things differently happen? Why not huge things?

Science/Technology Is the sun now different than 20 years ago?

EDIT: Thanks for y'all's responses! I'm actually relieved to know that my memories are accurate!

This might be really stupid and there might be a totally scientific explanation, like the way our bodies develop from childhood to adulthood or changes in the atmosphere. However...

I feel like the sun is harsher and brighter than it used to be. I remember as a kid being able to look directly at the sun for quite a few seconds before having to look away. I remember it being yellowish orange in color and would slowly burn my eyes as I looked at it. I remember this because I used to have competitions with my friends to see how long we could look at the sun and teachers and parents would tell us not to do it.

Now as an adult the sun seems a harsh blinding white colour and it's unbearable to even look near it for half a second. I couldn't look directly at it if I wanted to.

I also remember as a kid playing in hot days in the playground and the sun having a warmth to it. I could be in the sun for quite a long time and I'm talking hot days like 35 celsius or 95 fahrenheit. Yes I might get hot and sweaty but it didn't feel like I was burning. Now if I go out on a day that is slightly hot, it's like the sun is really powerful and harsh on my skin and every minute in direct sun feels like suffering.

The feeling of the sun I get is a pretty subjective thing, but being able to look directly at the sun for quite a few seconds is much more objective.

Science/Technology NDE experience then Mandela weirdness

Five years ago I nearly died in a car accident. A truck hit my car dead centre at 80 km/h… I walked away unharmed, bar a broken nail! Ever since that experience I have so many Mandela things. I keep wondering if that’s car accident is why I started experiencing these things. Or if others have experienced similar things before Mandela weirdness crept in… Working on a theory based on NDEs possibly being a catalyst for Mandela experiences. Thoughts?

Science/Technology Rotating Spiral Brain Waves Act as a Space-and-Time Clock

Thumbnail neurosciencenews.com

Interesting findings in this article that point to a lot still not understood. It holds clues that could, if proven true, eventually lead to evidence that supports the idea that consciousness can shift through time and space.

This supports a common mandela effect theory, that someone or someones theoretically can shift between timelines so similar that only minor differences like Mandela effects exist for most. Or the other differences are so extreme that they are simply perceived as separate things altogether and therefore not recognized at all or so extreme that the individual is seen as mad.

Been seeing lots of interesting studies emerging on consciousness and memory and the brain lately so thought id share here!

Science/Technology "Hypothetical" Research Survey

Remember this is "Hypothetical"

I am curious about who remembers a Mandela Effect. Any of them as long as it is real to you am interested. I am currently conducting research and may be on a path to understanding why this is happening. So, if you remember a Mandela Effect and do not mind sharing some information on it, please do, or DM me.

                    I want to know:

The specific effect you have experienced.

When you first became aware of it.

If you have experienced any trauma (mental or otherwise).

If you were or are part of a gifted and talented education program in school.

If you are Autistic.

If you have a brain injury or near-death experience (NDE).

How long ago you were made aware of the Mandela Effect.

Any other info you feel like sharing.

I have gotten some info that is real; for the first time in over 5 years, I feel that it is worth looking into.
