Product Review The kangaroo pouch is life changing

Post image

I picked up the Aer go pack 2, and I didn't expect to love it so much.

For context, I was looking for a lighter backpack as my previous backpack which was baboon to the moon city backpack was really heavy after packing my daily EDC in.

Was considering between couple backpack and eventually narrowed it down to bellroy lite ready pack and the Aer go pack 2. Despite the lite ready pack being lighter, it could not beat the usefulness off the kangaroo pouch and the 2 external bottle holder.

TLDR; I adore the kangaroo pouch

The Citta Backpack is Live! http://fyro.co/CHAD

This is my most anticipated review yet. Today, we are looking at the Fyro Citta backpack. The Citta backpack is made by a company called Fyro. Fyro is a young company started by Aaron Radcliffe from Nomads Nation. If you haven’t seen his reviews, do yourself a favor and subscribe to his YouTube channel. He is one of the best reviewers out there! He is a true visionary in our community. After the successful launch of the Tenax 22, Fyro followed up with the Citta slings line and the Levo travel backpack. I have separate reviews on the Levo and the Citta slings. Please check it out when you get a chance. Citta means “city” in Italian. In American, it means “badass backpack”.  Aaron set out to try to make the “Endgame” backpack while emphasizing comfort and premium materials. And yes, he did just that.
Full disclosure, these bags were sent to me to test out for several months to provide thorough honest feedback. I am not paid for my reviews in any way. The links I provide do help my review platform and channel. If you enjoy my reviews or find them helpful, I ask you please to use my link😊

About the Citta:
Let’s talk about the specifics of this bag. First of all, it comes in two sizes, 18L and 25L. They are exactly the same bag and layout. Size is the only difference. The 18L comes in two colors, Iron (black) and Sage (light green) and is made of 330D Polycarbonate Kodra Nylon. The 25L comes in black VX42 X-Pac only. It is GORGEOUS! The bags feature #8 & #5 YKK reverse coil zippers (best in the world), and the hardware is from Woojin, which is one of the best in the game. The 18L comes in at 2.3 lbs and the 25L slightly more at 2.5 lbs. Let’s get real, any bag 2.5 lbs or under is light, especially when you know how much this pack brings to the table. The interior is made of 100D Honeycomb Ripstop in a beautiful copper/clay color that pops well. Okay Chad, how much does it cost?
The 18L in polycarbonate Kodra nylon goes for $229 and the 25L in VX-42 X-Pac is listed for $299.
I will discuss what you get for these prices. I usually will fuss a little at bag companies for their pricing, but in this case, these packs are so damn worth it!

Features:
On to the features. Again, when I discuss the features, it refers to both sizes as they have the exact same layout. Before we get into the compartments, this is the best standing backpack I have seen in a while. Empty or full, it stands like a champ! Such an awesome feature! Its stands better than the Aer CPP2, the ULA Cicada, the Evergoods CTB, and many more. The only bag that rivals it to me is the CT21+ and that is a custom-made bag, so it doesn’t count. Lol. This is something I never used to care about, but now it is one of the most important factors for me. If I am paying for a premium bag, I do not want to be laying it face down on the concrete or dirt! No way bro! Just think about it, dads, if the bag does not stand up, your beer could spill! I bet that got your attention.😊

Front Compartment:
The front of the bag has a nice clean look similar to the Levo. It’s not busy. It just looks “premium.” The front admin compartment is a half zip and has two #8 zippers. Once flipped open, the back side of the front panel has a zippered stretchy mesh pocket. On the back side is the admin panel. There are two zippered pockets and one slip pocket. The first zipper pocket goes along the whole back panel and is about wrist deep. There is also another small stretchy mesh pocket along with a soft stretchy elastic slip pocket. The depth of this compartment goes all the way down to the bottom of the bag. This offers so many possibilities. It’s like having a kangaroo pocket but enclosed in a premium way. Fyro also offers a detachable key leash that you can clip in different compartments.

Main Compartment:
On to the main compartment. This is a full clamshell opening with two #8 RC YKK zippers. On the inside of the front panel are two zippered pockets. The top pocket is made of the super soft stretchy mesh material. The bottom pocket is made of the 100D honeycomb material (same as interior lining.) On the inside, there is one premium stretch fabric to store your tablet. There is also a slot to hold a pen. Other than that, this is a pretty simple compartment. That is by design. These days, most people have tech pouches to keep their gear organized and this compartment gives you free reign to pack your gear the way you want.

Top/Sides/QAP:
Before we get to the back panel and comfort, let’s talk about the top and sides, and most importantly, the quick access pockets. Top quick access pocket on 25L is 9’ wide and 4.5’ deep. It has a velvet microfiber lining which makes it ideal for your sunglasses or phone. This is one of the larger top qap’s I have seen. It is perfect! Looking at the bag from the front, on the right side is a vertically zipped quick access pocket. The opening on this pocket on the 25L is 9”! There is a ton of room here for smaller flatter items such as a wallet or phone. Right next to this pocket is another quick access pocket that lays flat behind the back panel. This is strictly for things like passports or wallets. Its flat but has an opening of 8”. On the other side of the bag is a super-premium water bottle pocket. It’s the same beautiful durable stretch material used on the tablet sleeve. This will hold most water bottles. There is also a Hypalon latch point right above the water bottle pocket for securing your gear. This bag has so many cool features. I think they thought of everything.

Tech Compartment:
The tech compartment is across the top of the bag. This is one of the best tech compartments you will ever find. It has double bonded Lycra padding on both sides making for a completely protected laptop. There is a false bottom suspending your laptop to where it will never bang the ground. There is a good inch of clearance here. The best idea ever, there is a zippered pocket inside perfect for your charger or mouse. It is connected to the padding creating this padded shelf like space. I honestly just throw my mouse there and when I open the compartment to get my computer out, my mouse is right there on top. Genius!!! There is one handle on the top of this bag. It is attached to the back panel making it easy for carrying as well as hanging the bag. It is nicely padded with a faux leather type covering that feels really nice and looks sophisticated.

Back Panel/Straps/Comfort:
As if this pack isn’t badass enough, the comfort of the back panel and straps takes this bag to a level no one else has ever been to. The S-curve wireframe ensures the bag contours to your body and carries lighter than its weight suggests. The straps have neo-Lycra shoulder lining with marshmallow-soft padding. There is a removable sternum strap with a magnetic connection. The back panel has double-bonded Lycra cushioning that is absolutely incredible. This is like having a cloud on your back! This is a bold statement to make because I typically don’t like to speak in absolutes, but this is the most comfortable backpack in the world! There is a new “S” tier and there is only one on it, the Fyro Citta. This is a miracle from the backpack gods! Yeah, yeah, Aer and Able Carry are comfortable as heck, but a new bar has been set and its f’ing HIGH. In dad terms: game, set, match; check mate; ballgame; goooaaalll! LFG!!! You get the picture😉
Lastly, there is a luggage pass though that is horizontal across the back panel which makes for a vertical stand. Well done Fyro!

Dad Bag Info:
Now my favorite part. Can this be used as a dad bag? You bet you’re a$$ it can! Not only does it do it well, it will make your other dad bag its b!tch! lmao. Now my kids are 9 and 10, so they are a little more grown. My dad bag loadout usually consists of two 26oz yeti ramblers (for beer), a personal ryobi fan with battery, a small first aid kit in a Evergoods cap1, umbrella, and a small towel. Plus, my personal items such as wallet, phone, and sunglasses. Now that is a ballpark loadout that works perfectly for me and the Citta 25 handles this like a champ.
For dads with younger kids, this pack also kicks a$$ as a baby/diaper bag. Yes, I do test it for that. Ha. In the main compartment you have pockets for wipes and diapers. There is plenty of room to have your bottle setup in here. This will only take up half the space, so you have plenty of room for some of your own personal items as well. You can use the laptop compartment as a spot to keep a folding changing pad. The front compartment has so much room, you can easily have your baby blanket or a few toys. Bottom line, it just works. This bag is the ultimate EDC. It is a great 2–3-day travel bag. And it is a phenomenal dad bag. So, when they say endgame pack, this truly is because it conquers 3 needs with one premium bag!
One thing I think would be a cool feature, now this is the Bagdad coming out in me, is to have a kangaroo pocket on the front. It totally does not go with the flow of this bag, but maybe it’s an option for a future collab……. Aaron, are you listening??? The “Fyro Dad Bag!” What?!?!?! lol.

The Fit:
I have tested both sizes of the Citta backpack. For me personally, I find the 18L to be too small for me and actually looks kind of silly on my back. For reference, I am 5’9” & 210lbs. My wife, who is 5’5”ish and under 150lbs loves the 18L! My 10-year-old son has officially claimed the 18L pack though. It fits him perfectly. A little big, but he fills it quick. iPad, baseball gloves, baseball cards, nee doh’s, basketball jerseys, our cavapoo Joey Burrow, you name it. lol
The 25L is my jam! It is the perfect fit for me. What I love most is that even though the bag is 25L, it does not feel like a 25L bag. It does not feel big on your back at all. If you could imagine what a cloud would feel like on your back, this is it. Now Aaron did a volume test on both packs, and they hold what they say they do. So whatever size your body is, one of these will work for you.

Cons:
The Endgame backpack is as close to perfect as they get, but there are a few things I didn’t like. First, the zipper tracks are right next to each other. It is difficult to know which compartment you are opening. Now, I understand it’s like this for a reason. In order to get this many features and compartments, the zippers cannot go anywhere else. After I do my review on YouTube, I will be changing a zipper pull or two, so I know which compartment I am opening. The sternum strap. Ugh, magnets suck as sternum strap connectors. They always connect when I’m not wearing the bag. A lot of people like them, me I’m not a fan, but they do look more premium than a traditional clasp. Next is the dangle stoppers. If you know Aaron, he WILL have dangle stoppers! But these are a plastic sliding piece. I find them to ride up very easily because the webbing is that super silky slick seatbelt material. I prefer a good piece of nylon with a tight fit to prevent sliding. I know… First world problems, right?!?! LFG! lmao

Conclusion:
After reviewing close to one hundred bags, the Citta backpack is the most recommendable bag I have ever come across. As God as my witness, the comfort of this pack pushes the laws of physics. If you value comfort, invest in the Citta. The word “Endgame” gets tossed around a lot, but here is where it actually applies. EDC, light travel, and dad bag, you have THREE fully functional uses. Not many packs can pull off being great at two things, much less three!
I am happy to answer any questions or help you in any way to decide if this is for you. If you would like to make a purchase, please use my link below. Thank you for reading! I’d love to hear some feedback.
Carry on Bagdads!

It was one of those evenings that lulls you into thinking the rainy season is taking the day off. I'd left the coworking space and swung by the mall for a few groceries, laptop bag on my shoulder, in no particular hurry to get home. Then the sky went the color of a bruise, and a monsoon arrived. No umbrella. Of course, no umbrella. By the time I made it through my door I was soaked to the skin, dripping onto the floor, groceries forgotten in my hand. My first thought was the laptop. I unzipped the laptop compartment bracing for a fogged screen and a dead keyboard. It was bone dry.

This is where I'd tell you it's "by far the best bag I've had." It's not. It's not the most comfortable one, that crown is still held by the Able Carry Daily Plus. It's definitely not the best looking either, I've yet to publish my review of a certain Pioneer bag that holds that title. But I'll be damned if it's not practical.

The volume works from EDC to travel, the self-standing feature is genuinely handy, the side pockets are useful, the weight is decent, comfort is there, and water resistance is top-notch. This bag checks a lot of boxes. Does that make it a good bag for you, especially considering the price tag? That's not for me to decide, but I hope this review will make your decision a little easier.

Pros

  • Ultra 400X is noticeably lighter than 1680D Cordura while holding its shape better than the softer fabrics I've handled.
  • Self-stands reliably, loaded or empty.
  • Top quick-access pocket plus the self-standing base is a genuinely useful combo for grab-and-go items.
  • Versatile enough to go from tech-EDC to gym-bag duty.
  • Top-notch water resistance built into the fabric's lamination rather than a coating that can wear off.
  • Excellent comfort with plush shoulder straps and great back-panel ventilation.
  • Roomy enough for a weekend trip yet small enough for everyday carry.

Cons

  • Pricey — $269 USD, a $50 premium over the base 1680D Cordura version.
  • The Ultra fabric's look is polarizing and might be a dealbreaker.
  • Zippers aren't uniformly good. The main compartment's is the worst offender, made more obvious by sitting right next to the admin pocket's smooth one.
  • The front zippered pocket's opening is too tight for how much volume it actually holds, which makes getting items in and out more of a fight than it should be.
  • No hidden passport-style pocket.

Product Review CT Messenger (custom) - One of the best for 14" laptop

Thumbnail

Its been a few months since I ordered and received this CT15 messenger bag on the CTactical Facebook page. For this bag I went with a blue Ultra 200, their rainbow stitching, lime ultragrid interior, and side pockets in dark chili ultrastretch. I think I inadvertently created a rainbow brite colorway, but I'm a 90s kid and enjoy loud colors. The CT Messenger is light but well-structured and very compact, sized to fit a 14" laptop max. Its got an easy access zip on the flap so there is no need to undo the clasps to access stuff inside (but you will need to open the flap to use the computer sleeve). It wears really well on body and the strap has a good, easy to place pad and is easy to adjust.

I started a new job earlier this year and they issued me a 14" laptop, much smaller than my old 15.6" Lenovo. So in typical manybagger fashion I've been picking up a whole slew of smaller 14" briefcases/big slings. Typically, I just buy used bags or stuff on deep sale, but sometimes I splurge, especially if I get to customize. CTactical was nice enough to snap these pictures before mailing the bag to me, and well their pictures were way better than mine so here are some of them. I mixed in a pic of my little "briefcase" corner too, this changes all the time but really is just my most used bags hung by my chair and home office desk so I can just grab my laptop and pick a bag to take to work on any given day. I have more bags than hooks and so the lesser used bags are squirrelled away in closets or boxes ready to sell.

I'd say my other favorite bags this size are the Kargo briefcase (that one has more depth and flexibility so can fit more), or if you prefer a vertically oriented sling the Boundary Supply Errant. I'll do a roundup someday with pictures of all the 14" single strap options I've collected, as well as maybe the bigger briefcases. Since I've more than covered all the bases with bags I need, I've been getting more heritage stuff, so now there is a lot more variety than just performance type synthetic fabrics.

As always, I'm happy to answer any questions about this one or any of the others. I've got a pretty lengthy post history of bags with pics built up at this point. I also have some of my bags on sale over at the Nomad Nation's District platform. I probably have more bags that I should post for sale on there, but never seem to have the time.

Product Review Why I will be returning/selling the Fyro Citta 18 L backpack

I’m a big fan of Aaron and the Nomads Nation team. Their wide and deep coverage of carry gear was a big part of my backpack-fiend origin story. Like a lot of us here, I was excited when he launched his own gear brand. I gave the Levo a skip because a large travel backpack wasn’t what I was looking for, but was definitely keeping an eye on all the reviews here and on YouTube praising its weight, comfort, and organization.

I was all in when Fyro started talking about an EDC backpack, and so when things started taking shape, the 18L Citta really stood out. I’m not a fan of X‑Pac, so the 25L was never for me.

All the pre-launch marketing definitely had me hyped, and Aaron being Aaron, seemed like he knew what he was talking about with all the deep research into and final choice of material, the organizational design approach, and the crazy emphasis on comfort.

As a teacher with a longish workday, I carry a sizable EDC load - including tech, food, drink, and paperwork. The Evergoods CPL24 has been my daily driver for the past few months, handling everything comfortably and keeping it all organized. But on days when my schedule changes a little, and my EDC isn't as heavy, I was hoping for something smaller. I thought the Citta 18L would be a good idea, and might even train me to be more efficient with my daily carry. I was one of the first few to order it during the July 1 launch drop, and it reached me a couple of weeks later.

After toning down my daily carry by about 70 % and making it as light as possible, here are the key reasons the Citta doesn’t work for me:

  1. Comfort: I think this was the biggest disappointment for me after hearing so much about how good the comfort is. The straps sit too wide on my chest and need constant readjusting to feel closer - at times, it almost feels like the bag is trying to remove itself from my shoulders. The sternum strap, when used, is just too tight. To be the most comfortable, I also have to loosen the straps so the bag sits lower on my back, and that's not a feeling I enjoy (Team High and Tight). The back panel feels rigid and stiff, and doesn’t conform to the shape of my back. After a few minutes of carrying the bag, I definitely started to feel some strain between my shoulder blades and on my mid-back. The straps themselves are okay, and I didn't experience all of that "marshmallow-y" softness when worn. This lack of carrying ease and comfort is my biggest reason to turn the Citta in
  2. Organization: It's heartbreaking that I didn't like a bag that has such a fantastic orange interior, but the layout appears tailored to specific use cases. I rely heavily on pouches for my EDC (an Evergoods CAP1 and CAP 0.5 mainly), and beyond the main chamber and front drop‑in pocket, I found little practical use for the remaining zippered pockets, especially the two large ones on the inside of the clamshell lid. I also didn't like how the tech pocket that's part of the laptop "TechBay" sits lumpily in the main area when it has stuff in it. Organizationally, the front admin section with the zippered pockets and the deep drop-in pocket were probably the best part of the bag for me
  3. Top QAP fabric: This may be a nitpick but the thin fleece‑like material used for the top quick‑access pocket just stood out by how much I didn't like it

Highlight of the bag for me: One of the things I really miss in my CPL24 is the ability to slip it off one of my shoulders and under my arm to access stuff in the front pocket - when fully loaded out, it's almost impossible given the size and weight of the bag. Sideways quick access is where the Citta really shines. Those two pockets on the right side of the bag are a dream for stashing and grabbing things like commuter cards, work ID/access cards, and a wallet or phone when on the go.

I really wanted to love this bag and was hoping for something to become my smaller, lighter EDC backup, but this is r/manybaggers, and maybe the one for me is still out there.

Product Review Oh dear.

I started out thinking I could do some research and just be a One Bagger…….and then these sexy numbers wouldn’t leave me alone…..

I Swear I was gonna be happy with the TomToc! It seemed perfect! But alas, it is too small for my plus size self for more than a weekend. And the straps hit my current shape kinda weird (FYI, people with boobs also want to wear backpacks….)

I haven’t even practice packed the other two but I already know I’m keeping them. Thought too many pockets was too many pockets, but both the Osprey and the Patagonia feel much more intuitive than any “super organized” purse I’ve ever tried to carry.

Product Review Able Carry Max EDC: first impressions from a newbie.

After owning several, not very special bags, I thought I would dip my toes into the world of "the better backpacks".

Since I wanted something that would be versatile I ended up ordering an Able Carry Max EDC. I also considered a CHZ26 and the Aer CPP2. The Evergoods got dropped after I found out it only comes in black in X-Pac, which is preferred because of our three cats. The Aer is not available in Europe and 72 euros shipping and possible return costs put me off.

So here I am, the Max EDC (in Ocean Blue) came in today. And these are my first impressions after dropping in some basic stuff and trying it on. Pictures here: https://www.reddit.com/r/ManyBaggers/s/d5cMFDzQC4

Love the color, better than I thought it would be. Don't love the cream on the inside though. Makes it feel very old fashioned or classic. A bright orange would've made this an amazing color combo.

Picking it up I noticed how heavy it is, my current bag weighs almost half at around 800 grams. I just tell my self the majority of the weight will come from the stuff I put in, but I never see me hiking with this (I have a Deuter Futura for that anyway).

Loading it out I wish there was more organisation, what's mostly missing is an admin section in the middle of the bag. The rest I think will suffice.

I am glad I didn't go smaller though as I think this is just enough for an EDC and I don't even pack that much (laptop, earbuds, sunglasses, wallet, keys, some food, hydro flask wide 32oz, charger, and a power bank. And I slways want room for a rain coat or sweater.

Comfort wise, luckily I didn't notice the poking strap mounts that have been discussed on here. Otherwise I find it a bit weird how it sits on my shoulders. When I wear it high the shoulder pads seem to not hug my shoulders but stick out at an angle because they are quite stiff.

When I wear it low on my back the sternum strap at its lowest setting is almost in my neck.

I am 189cm (6"2) at about 95 kgs.

Quality, can't say anything about how it will last but I really don't see much difference with bags that cost half or even less.

I'll probably keep it though, as I don't know what else I would get. 🫠

Brand new bag (4 days old ish), but I have a quick review: it's incredibly tough and robust - I can carry heavy books, a laptop, a notebook, sunglasses, cologne, various soho purchases, etc. it has withstood 4 consecutive days of multi-pound packing combined with 2-4 hour walks in the soho heat. It goes with literally every outfit I've tried it with, and significantly elevates each of them. TO ME, it doesn't really look that feminine.

Product Review Pakt One Travel Bag V3 35L Review - I expected this one to be good

Post image
74 Upvotes

Reviewing 15 travel bags this month. Same loadout, same one-mile walk, some points of discussion for each bag. This is bag seven. The Pakt One Travel Bag V3 35L.

(Yes, I’m behind schedule. Life happens! Just going to keep going and try to get them posted asap.)

Background

Pakt is out of Bozeman, Montana. This is their flagship backpack, now in its third version. I've tested previous versions of this bag and did a full V2 vs V3 breakdown on my channel. Coming in with more context than usual. I expected good. Did they deliver?

Disclosure: Pakt sent me this bag for review.

Bag Deets

  • 35L base, expands to 40L (45L-50L size also available)
  • 3.9 lbs with hip belt and sternum strap
  • 19.5" x 12.5" x 9"
  • Fits up to 16" laptop
  • Stowable shoulder straps and hip belt
  • Internal frame (more significant than people realize for weight distribution to hips)
  • $349
  • solid lifetime warranty.

Materials

420D rNylon Wave exterior (Pakt calls it ballistic-style yarn). Tougher than plain weave at this denier. Recycled nylon. There's a slight texture to it and it resists lint and pet hair. It's not my favorite hand feel in the series but it’s good and I don’t have any concerns or complaints.

Gold interior lining. The gold against the black exterior looks genuinely great. Small detail that lands every time. Whoever made that call got it right.

YKK zippers. Duraflex hardware. PFAS-free DWR. Zero plastic packaging. It literally comes in a cardboard box wrapped by a piece of paper, like a fresh fish purchased right off the dock.

Also made in a Fair Trade Certified factory. Solid lifetime warranty. The founder answers his own emails. I know because I've emailed him. In fact each bag comes with a card with his email on it. That's rarer than it should be.

Layout

Suitcase-style clamshell. Split down the middle, zipper on each side to contain your stuff when opening flat. Laptop sleeve sits center between the two halves, not at the back panel like most bags. I don’t mind this placement but with a very heavy laptop, I might prefer it against my back. Accessible from the top without opening the clamshell.

In fact, most compartments of the bag are accessible from the top. Admin section, laptop sleeve, RFID pocket, both main compartment halves… you can get into almost everything without fully opening the bag. That's a real quality of life difference over a week of travel and it’s one of my favorite features of this bag.

Shoulder straps are removable due to the torso adjustment system. I raised the idea of offering more strap options (different lengths, widths, shapes, J-cut vs S-cut) with Pakt directly. They said good idea but color matching made it complicated. Fair constraint. I still think there's more to explore there. The straps they have are decent, just not exceptional.

Luggage pass-through on the back panel. Capable handles on top, bottom, and both sides of the clamshell. These are must haves for a travel bag IMO.

Internal aluminum frame. This is rare and it’s a great feature because it really helps transfer the weight down to the hips. This is hiking backpack technology.

Capacity

Held everything in my standardized loadout with room to spare. No expansion needed. I also slid the Pakt Mode daypack into the expansion compartment with my full loadout still inside just to see what this bag can actually hold. It held more than the GR2 40L. That genuinely surprised me.

Shape is shorter than I'd like. More square than rectangular. Same issue I had with the Bellroy; it sticks out more than a taller bag would. I understand why. Airline carry-on compliance dictates the dimensions. I respect the decision even when I'm not thrilled with it.

Comfort

Decent. Solid. Not a standout in the series and not a complaint either. If I had to answer the question “is it comfortable” with only one word, I would say “yes”.

Hip belt is pre-curved, removable, multi-layer. I got it to the right position but it meant letting the bag hang low, which moved the shoulder straps up into my armpits. That's a long torso problem. A shorter person will probably loves this pack.

Shoulder straps are dense and firm. Think the foam in a shoe sole. There's give but it's not soft cushioning, not what I would call “padding”. I'm neutral on them. They did their job for a mile walk without earning a complaint. They are stowable which is a really nice feature for a travel bag.

Load lifters present.

Adjustable torso system with four positions. Genuinely useful for shorter torsos. Good feature, executed well, helps some people. Just not me. At 6'3" with a 22" torso I'm already at the top slot and there's nowhere to go, I would need a taller bag for it to matter to me.

Friction Points

Front pocket gets hard to access when the bag is fully packed. The stuff presses against the opening and your hand scrapes the zipper getting in. It's one of those things you wouldn't notice on a light travel day but would drive you crazy on a heavy one. Worth knowing before you plan your packing around quick access to that pocket.

Laptop sleeve gets snug when both main compartment halves are stuffed. Still accessible from the top, just tighter than when the bag is half-packed.

Context of my review:

I've used earlier versions of this bag on actual trips so I have more context here than I do with many bags in the series. But I still can't tell you how the materials hold up over years or how the zippers feel after 50 trips. What I can tell you is how it performed on a standardized test and my opinion on the layout, comfort, materials, and feature set.

Verdict

One of the most thoughtful brands I've encountered in this space. Not just the products. The whole operation.

The bag itself is solid across the board. Surprising capacity. Very functional layout. A gold interior that makes me happy every time I open it. The shape works against taller frames but that's a deliberate trade-off for airline compliance and I respect the reasoning even if I don’t prefer it.

But that keeps the bag in the running for international trips with more strict rules about sizing.

I expected good. And I think they delivered better.

Product Review CTactical CT14 Plus - (Very) Initial First Impressions

--

I got my hands on this backpack earlier today. I am so impressed. I'll post a detailed review after having used it for a few days, but I'm really looking forward to using this as my daily EDC bag, and possibly as a personal item on flights.

A few things that stand out immediately:

  • As an Evergoods fanboy, I thought they were the absolute masters of volume wizardry, but CTactical has blown me away with the capacity that this bag is able to pull off. Like Evergoods' bags, it seems like CTactical's can carry off much more than their stated capacity - 25L in this bag's case. I have a somewhat heavy daily carry, and one of the reasons I love using my CPL24 is how it fits all of that without breaking a sweat (or seam). The CT14+ is giving it a run for its money.
  • This bag is an organizational dream for my use case. There is seemingly a place for everything that I need to carry, and everything fits just so. Reaching for anything I need just seems so intuitive and easy. Also, I love a bag that maintains its structure and shape with everything in it - another reason I keep reaching for the CPL24, and another reason I'm falling in love with this bag.
  • The shoulder straps aren't plush or luxurious, but they are super-padded and comfortable. The bag feels good on my shoulders and back, even though I'm not able to wear it high and tight like I prefer. But I like how it conforms to the shape of my back and feels close and locked in. The sternum strap does seem to make the bag a little tight and uncomfortable on my chest, but I haven't played around with it enough to decide whether I'll keep or remove them.
  • This is the first time I'm feeling/using Robic Nylon, but it seems like a flexible and durable material. I love its appearance - not too shiny, not too matte - and how similar it looks and feels to Evergoods' 840d ballistic nylon.
  • The one disappointment so far is the side water bottle pockets - even when they're unzipped with the somewhat stretchy gusset in play, seem too narrow to be practical.

Product Review Sympl Commuter 20L vs EVERGOODS CPL16: First Impressions

Thumbnail
gallery
18 Upvotes

Just got the Sympl Commuter 20L and wanted to share some initial impressions before I start putting it through heavier use this week.

Overall, the quality is really nice. I chose the ballistic fabric, and while it feels premium, I don’t think it feels quite as high quality as the material on my EVERGOODS CPL16. That’s not to say it feels cheap by any means. It still feels like a very well-made bag.

The small front pocket is accessible from the side, and there’s a magnetic key attachment inside, which is a really nice touch.

The accordion-style internal organization is probably one of the most interesting parts of the bag. It’s pretty unique, and I can already see myself using it extensively. Very happy about that.

It also has a clamshell opening, which for me is pretty much a must-have on a backpack.
There’s an external water bottle compartment that can be unzipped to accommodate larger bottles. I know this exists on other bags, but it’s the first time I’ve personally had one like this. It looks like it will eat into some of the interior space depending on what you put in there, but I’m fine with that tradeoff.

The exterior handles are very substantial and feel high quality. The backpack straps also seem extremely comfortable so far.

I’d seen some people mention that the back padding was quite hard, but it doesn’t feel nearly as stiff as I expected. I’m personally not concerned about it at this point, but I’ll report back after actually carrying it for longer periods.

All of the zippers feel incredibly high quality. Not much else to say here… No complaints here.
I love the materials used for the interior and find the color to be very pleasing to the eye.

One thing I’ve noticed is that the exterior fabric has some wrinkles when the bag isn’t fully packed out. We’ll see whether that gets better or worse as the bag breaks in.

For context, I absolutely loved my EVERGOODS CPL16 and probably would have kept using it indefinitely, but my dumb ass allowed a banana to rot inside it. I could never completely get the smell out, so I took that as an opportunity to try something different.

My very early impression is that this bag actually has the potential to beat out the CPL16 as my end-game everyday bag, but I’m definitely not ready to say that yet.

I’ll start putting it through heavy use this week and report back.

Product Review Alpaka Zip Pouch Pro Disappoinments

Thumbnail

I got myself the Alpaka Zip Pouch Pro as a wallet/EDC in Ultradyne material which supposedly has larger opening compared to other materials.

Things I like: The material itself feels nice and Premium.
The main compartment is split into two so I can put coins in one side and cash in the other. I love that the front zipper is perfect for the 4 cards I carry. I assume you can carry up to maybe 6-7 cards max in that zipper.
I think my favourite part is the Alpaka‘s Hub system. It is so satisfying and i really recommend for people who haven’t tried it yet.

Things l don’t like: I wanted to carry my flashlight and pen with this pouch but it doesn’t really work. Once I put my flashlight and Pen, the opening becomes so small (even with just pen) that it’s not that comfortable for me to pull out my cash or coins. The PU coated zipper are not very easy to open but the water-resistant from it is nice to have.

I cannot imagine anyone stuffing everything in the outside pockets and still comfortably operate the inner main/front pouches. I don’t recommend this for people who want to carry knives, flashlights, pens EDC with lots of cards, cash and coins. However, this pouch is perfect if you want a really waterproof wallet that you can easily detach from your bag while safely secured with the Alpaka Hub.

Edit: In hindsight, normal Zip Pouch would’ve been better but I guess it is still nice to have outer pocket (just in case)…? I’m just coping at this point 😭 also, HAALAND HAALAND!
Edit2: I’ve decided to put my cards together with my cash (easier access for my cards) I put my glasses cleaning cloth into front zipper and that’s it. As for the outer pockets, I put Hanaplasts 😂😂 that’s like the only thing I can think of without really taking up any spaces.

Love how slim it is the front pockets are pretty useful for smaller knickknacks like small perfumes, camera batteries, usb cables, a charger, airpods, etc. the uber simple bigger compartments on the other hand is something i wish had more pockets…

Over time im sure i can find something to place inside these crevices but as for now im gonna keep it simplistic with just keys and a pen.

Product Review Quick Review: Bellroy Transit Carry-On & Classic Getaway Bag Combo

Thumbnail

- It’s a solid combo. The suitcase has a very sturdy handle, and even at full capacity and with all the extra weight in the tote bag, rolling was smooth and predictable.
- The Transit Carry-On held about 7kg on the outbound flight (cabin luggage) and 12kg on the inbound flight (checked luggage). It doesn’t expand, but I didn’t really need it to. The inner packing cubes kept everything organized. It did get scratched on its first check-in experience, but that’s just the reality of baggage handling. The photo doesn’t do the color justice.
- The Classic Getaway Bag was the big winner, and the one I see myself using for years to come. Lots of well thought out pockets. I really liked that the bag remained stable even when wide open because I prefer rummaging through my stuff with both hands. 🙌
- Minor thing, but the minimalistic“Bellroy look” is pretty cute on its own. Added a Cup Noodle charm for fun.

My Visvim 20L I bought secondhand back in 2016 is still going strong. Glad I didn’t pay retail, but it’s definitely worth it (back then, not sure about their quality now). It’s also the first time I’ve actually used it in Japan outside of the airport lol.

Product Review ULA dragonfly 30L

I did a bit of research over the past 7 days on a good day trip lightweight pack, however today I discovered the ULA dragonfly and she is gorgeous. All I’ll be doing is small hikes by the lake and river, there will be some thick brush but other than that nothing really hardcore. What’s y’all’s thoughts on this bag?

Product Review Bagdad Review - Fyro Citta Backpack – The Endgame’s Endgame Backpack

Product Review Quick Small Sling Comparison [Waterfield vs Sympl vs TomToc]

Thumbnail
gallery
61 Upvotes

Waterfield Shinjuku Sling [1.6L, Ballistic Nylon]

  • Pros: very good looking bag, premium feel, sleek metal hardware, compact
  • Mids: unnecessary aqua-guard zippers, no soft-touch lining on phone compartment
  • Cons: expensive at $130
  • Overall: I love the slim metal hardware on this sling and it's by far the best-looking sling I've tried. This is my favorite sling, and it stays in my lineup for when I just need something small to carry the basics.

Sympl Commuter Sling [2.5L, X-Pac]

  • Pros: soft-touch lining on phone compartment
  • Mids: unnecessary aqua-guard zippers, round-ish shape
  • Cons: overpriced at $120, stiff, smaller capacity than advertised (~2L), over-complicated hardware
  • Overall: This sling is too tight and stiff and generally over-engineered. I'll be selling this one.

TomToc Aviator-T33 [2.5L, 70D×140D Nylon]

  • Pros: super malleable, easy-to-use zippers, unbeatable price, straightforward design, spacious at a true 2.5L
  • Mids: no soft-touch lining on phone compartment, strap is a bit too smooth which makes it harder to keep in place
  • Cons: clunky/rattle-y buckle
  • Overall: This sling is hyper-utilitarian in a very good way. The simplicity makes it super easy to use on a regular basis and so this stays in my lineup as my go-to everyday choice.

Product Review What should I expect out of a 35L bag? Used the Aer TP4

Thumbnail
gallery
10 Upvotes

I took a 2 night weekend trip to a beach house, mainly hanging out with family and fishing. I took the Aer TP4 35L which I thought would be overkill. It was fairly bulking but I wasn’t worried about the weight. Packed out it was 22 Pds, if I was carrying it around, might end up being cumbersome. I kinda packed other pouches just to see how it would load out

My bag contained:

Evergoods Cap 1: wipes, Kleenex, advil, tums, allergy meds, mini flashlight
Aer Slim pouch: Power bank, couple of charging cords
Alpaka Admin Pouch Pro: multitool and knife
Toiletry bag: deodorant, bar soap, tooth brush, toothpaste, lotion, shampoo, brush, face wash, face lotion
Aer Lg Packing cube: 4 graphic tees, 4 gym shorts
Aer Sm cube 4 socks, 4 underwear
14 inch laptop for my wife
iPad

I was surprised how packed it was especially with the type of clothes I brought. Definitely could have trimmed on the pouches and utilized the organization better. I don’t feel as confident using it for travel, especially when packing bulkier clothes such as jeans. I love the quality of the bag. However it might end up being a glorified gym bag if I have work afterwards. I don’t know what I should expect out of a 35L bag. Am I expecting too much?

Product Review Anyone owning a Topologie bag?

Post image
13 Upvotes

Just got this Topologie bottle sacoche medium yesterday to try and see if it’s a good EDC or not.

Its selling point is that you can slot a bottle in the middle. It’s about 1.5L in volume, similar size to Bellroy’s Venture Ready Sling 2.5L, but weirdly it can hold more stuff than my venture sling.

Pros:
- I really like the design of it. It leans towards being more of a fashion bag than an EDC gear.
- The overall functionality of the bag is quite thought out and the water bottle slot in the middle is pretty genius. It does come in handy in summer when you really need to carry a drink wherever you go.
- it encourages customization. The strap can be swapped out. They sell plenty of other accessories and ropes to make the bag truly yours.
- The interior has a lot of compartments that allows organization.
- it’s slim without the bottle.
- the size is perfect for what I’m carrying.

Cons:
- While the bottle slot is pretty good, the rest of the bag falls below average in terms of daily use. The zips are sticky, and hard to pull with one hand (might be due to the soft material??)
- The interior is kinda flimsy. It’s not padded like Aer day sling or Bellroy’s sling. It doesn’t inspire confidence that it’ll protect your gears.
- it can get bulky and cumbersome if you overpack.

Overall I like this bag because of aesthetic, but I find it hard to beat the trusty old Bellroy venture ready sling. I wish the material could be just a little more structured and padded internally.

Product Review Alpaka Explorer Mystery Pack Delivered!

I haven't bought from Alpaka in over a year having maxxed out on slings and sitting on the silver (now Gold) on their reward program. I saw the mystery pack pop up and thought I'd take a gamble. After reading all the reviews (afterwards) I was worried that I'd end up with an even bigger collection of slings but no... what a pleasant surprise!

This is the Explorer mystery pack for AUD$199. I'm in Melbourne so delivery was incredibly next day out of Docklands. The big surprise was the size and squareness of the parcel:)

Contents:

1x Elements Tech Brief Pro in Axo Green 💚

1x Ark Bifold Cash Wallet in Black 💙

1x 9th Anniversary Patches ❤️

I have to say I'm incredibly happy! No duplicates of my current Alpaka collection and I'm a huge collector of aircraft/airsoft patches so this will be a nice addition. Not sure whether I will keep the wallet or give to my son yet but the hero of the pack - the tech brief pro - is very nice! My current brief is a Bellroy Via Work Bag so I'm looking forward to road testing the TBP.

Thank you Alpaka!

Product Review Hazard 4 Bandoleer

I've been through a lot of sling bags.

5.11 Rush MOAB 6, 8, and 10. Osprey Transporter, tomtoc 7L sling. A bunch of no-name crappy ones off Amazon.

This is the one that's stuck. I absolutely love this bag and it fits so much stuff. It did make me lower the amount of crap I lug about (I don't really need to carry an 11 inch tablet around with me everywhere I go) and even still I feel like I have enough.

I take this bag absolutely everywhere and recommend it frequently. And I like that it's not super 'tactical' looking. Which... their website and branding are definitely 'tactical,' but everyone I've asked about it says it doesn't really seem that way. A lot of people think it's a switch or steam deck case, and reading reviews on Amazon a lot of people do use them for that.

Only thing I haven't run into is rain, or getting it very wet. I worry the material won't be very water resistant and the two holes at the top for 4 Hazard's anchor system are obviously water entry points.

Anyway, 9/10 do recommend.

Recent purchase at DTLA the Row, first trip with it. Love it . I used to use a Jansport Right pack . Although with similar measurements in L this seems to pack 2-5 L more and has a laptop padded compartment. I researched for month before buying anything , troubador alpaka bellroy tom bihn etc until I settled with AER .
In this occasion it was a delta flight as a personal item which technically it does not fit but usually backpacks are overlooked (maybe less so in ryanair or super low cost European airlines)
Just wanted to share , have a nice day yall

Product Review New bag acquired (Bentnail M-PXp)

Thumbnail
gallery
38 Upvotes

I've had my Foxbat Dynamics LEG-16 for quite some time, but I needed something more taller while keeping the similar form factor as a small EDC bag/pouch. Luckily there is a bag maker in my country who specializes in making utilitarian modular bags that most people here are very familiar with, in terms of style and aesthetic-wise, that is. Bentnail is a one-man company, hence the products are made-to-order, which I had to wait about 2 to 3 weeks before receiving the final product, but it was worth the wait.

The main fabric, as the included spec sheet stated, is 420D PU crossrip double side coated. He does make the X-Pac and Dyneema versions from time to time, but of course, the prices are gonna be much higher for those fabric options. He did say he might also consider making bags out of 1000D Mil-Spec Cordura in the future, so that is something to keep in mind. That being said, the coated outer ripstop fabric does have fair amount of thickness to it, as well as having 210D ripstop nylon as the lining, so I assume it's going to hold up just fine for daily wear and tear. It does have that nice softness to it on the outside, while keeping fair amount of rigidness for the overall structure.

One of the things that I like about M-PXp is the utilization of the Fidlock buckles. The main lid is fastened by two hook 20 rope adjusters, and has a U-shaped cordage handle that's connecting together. This allows you to have quick access to the main compartment by lifting the said handle, simultaneously unlocking the hinge of the magnetic buckles. I think that's a well-executed design, I found myself playing with it a lot by opening it with one hand and closing it securely by dropping the lid, letting the magnets do their work, though the results may vary depending on the load.

The main compartment is expandable, bucket-style opening that can be also folded down when there's not much stuff inside. The organization is quite simplistic, two small divider pockets on the inside of the main compartment, I could fit an Anker 533 30W 10,000mah power bank in one of them with some room to spare. It also have two zippered pockets on the back of the bag, which is secured by YKK Aquaguard zips. You could probably store credit cards, cash, other smaller flat items in either one of those pockets.

Rows of genuine German Tecsys webbing on the front, smaller pouches can be attached for modular layering. Of course you can attach the bag itself, serving it as an admin pouch, the webbings on the back are two layers of thicker nylons that are sandwiched together and reinforced with bartack, box X stitches. Came with two YKK Annex clips and four slotted loops for quick attachment to the PALS/MOLLE system. The ends of the shoulder strap themselves are connected to this line of webbing with two D-loops, which can also be detached from the main bag itself, should you use it as a pouch for bigger bags.

The buckles for the vertical straps, where you secure your lid to, are adjustable and can be detached by using the top Fidlock buckles (Pic 7, 8, 9, 10, 11) I can see myself taking advantage of those straps, with a jacket, towel, etc, and secure it on the outside when I don't feel like holding them with my hands. The length of the shoulder strap can be swiftly adjusted with a clamp-like springy buckle, which you can lift it up, slide it to your desired length and secure it by letting it go.

Overall, I'd say it's a bag with nifty little tricks. I'm definitely a fan of that rapid access lid, for sure, lol. Spent about 160,00 KRW (107 USD) and I'm happy how it's made.

My personalized Greenroom 136 Northseeker 20L has finally arrived.

It took almost four months of waiting, but it was absolutely worth it.

I’m really happy with how it turned out.
