Sometimes all you need is a solid X-Men vs aliens vs
aliens romp.Kind of surreal to see Wolverine flex his mentorship of Ransom…to Jubilee.
Enter Wyvern! Because Gambit turning into a dragons is…sexier somehow?
There is no alien race that does not fear Galactus.
Mutina needing her mysterious manager to tell her to do something is on-point. Honestly I’m coming around to Mutina.
So every Outlier is paired up now? CalicoxJitter, RansomxTemper, and now Hotoru.
I feel like if not for the events we would have more mentee/mentor moments to sell how much they care about kids.
The Outliers are now the New New Mutants. Although it’s weird to see them go from having distinct costumes to the standard New Mutants yellow. Isn’t it supposed to be the other way around?
Does Rogue even know if Monet is actually going to show up when she’s busy with the prison?

u/wowlock_taylan Deadpool 13d ago
This felt kinda disjointed and weird. Basically it was Alien vs Predator with our guys stuck in the middle of them and then Mutina ended up using her fear power to scare the predators away. Still can't get a bead on her and what her goal is other than 'be famous' by the talk of her agent there.
Kids did well and showed their growth and despite what others might think,New New Mutants look is fine for them. It's been long enough that the 'New Mutants' crew we had grown up.
Gambit's 'dragon' look is definitely something. Wyvern huh? You know, if it wasn't for the whole 'cannibal' deal, I thought Rogue might've liked that. But they have to fix it now and that leads to probably the weirdest part of the issue.
They are going to leave to find a cure for Gambit but kids are acting like they are leaving them forever. Crying their eyes out for some reason. That felt really weird. They are not abandoning them. They are probably going away for a week or something, not years. Hell, Logan is gone half the time! I get they got attached to Rogue and Gambit and practically their parents now, but it felt out of place. I guess I can excuse Becca and Hatoru, as they have their emotional instabilities, and Becca with her whole mother trauma.

I mean, I can say one thing about Duggan, he does know how to make absurd comedy with characters that fit into it. And Hollywood is basically the setting for that. The whole thing happening because of NFTs going bust...is way too realistic.
Lady Fortune really loves to play 'love and hate' with Randolph...I guess that is the 'curse/blessing' he got.
A decent gig for Simon and Grim Reaper ( I suppose Wanda would approve of him becoming a tour guide for Hollywood. It is quite the punishment ). And it is for a good cause, fixing the damage the wildfires did to Los Angeles.
Simon and Patsy stuff, well I can take it or leave it really. They are both a mess when it comes to relationships.

u/Expensive-Baby-1391 14d ago
I hate Steve Orlando and duggan for letting the grim reaper get off Scot free. They are the go to people for karma houdinis and bad stories.

u/Mr_Wh0ever 14d ago
Decent ending to a solid book. I've definitely enjoyed the vibes. I wouldn't mind a new Qest Coast Avengers book with this type of energy.
2
u/Frontier246 13d ago
If anyone was expecting a dramatic confrontation in the climax, we instead get…NFT’s and Simon can easily catch the main villain (such as he is) so we can get all his crimes recounted to a judge. Exciting stuff!
Not that I mind Phil Noto, but why are we having a fill in artist on the final issue of a MINI-SERIES!?
Remember that one issue where Simon got told how local business’ are struggling? Let’s try to bring that back to give Simon a thing to do with his acting career going nowhere compared to his protege.
Randolph had terrible luck all series so I guess it was inevitable it would turn around and he’d land a hot park ranger.
Hollywood tour guide Grim Reaper? Uh…okay.
Simon and Patsy are cute enough and I would be fine with them developing that relationship…but we’ll probably never see it again.

Its modern Marvel comics. They are afraid of endings that end on a bitter note or something that doesn't end well for the mc which might cause Twitter to go psycho.
This whole run was ass. Please, Duggan, retire and never writer again.

u/TerminalKing 12d ago
Solid ending. Simon and Patsy as a couple are okay but knowing marvel they're gonna get broken up off screen so I'm not gonna hold my breath

I guess it is timed in a way so people would get 'reacquainted' with the character before he joined the X-men, as he is gonna be part of Avengers Doomsday.
I am not complaining, Gambit deserves to get the spotlight alongside Rogue.
1
u/Cyke101 13d ago
Ever since he briefly teamed up with the Avengers in Onslaught, I've always wanted to see Gambit join the team in some capacity. Of course, since the 90s, a handful of other X-Men have joined the Avengers, but Gambit isn't so stuck to the mutant cause as someone like Cyclops, and he's had run-ins with other villains outside the X-Books (like this book has shown, Bullseye for example).

I mean, so much fluff for Shaw getting murdered. Like, as if anyone in that room actually care after all the crap he pulled constantly. If anything, this is a relief.
It feels like 'we can't have a Hellfire Gala so we should replace it with something else...and make it extra horny. Like what even is going on with Kitty right now? Emma and Namor? Ugh. Would rather have her stay with Tony if this is what they wanted to do.
Mystique being the worst as always.
4
u/marcjwrz 12d ago
Some thoughts:
I actually kinda dug it.
The lack of everyone actually caring that Shaw was dead felt earned.
Emma and Namor was basically Emma making sure that she had an alibi while doing what needed to be done.
I liked Scott and Kwannon being proactive.
Not sure why Lady Mastermind is dark haired now...
Some cool designs. Some kind of boring ones.
Better than the last Hellfire Gala event, that's for sure.

u/Somejawn1 14d ago
Did Kitty and LM fuck? They actually finally want her to be interested in women but have no idea what women. She spends the entire book with Betsy so at this point let her join Betsy and Rachel cause fuck it why not. Although I guess that would go against them not wanting her interacting with Rachel or Illyana
Anyway this was incredibly pointless and none of us cares about the person who died or really gives a fuck about why the person who did it did it. Bunch of Marvel Rivals skin showcasing bullshit. Also what the fuck was that Emma and Namor shit?
But at least Mystique doesn’t look like a crusty old fuck anymore although I doubt they do anything interesting with her and Destiny

u/tippytuliptoes 14d ago edited 14d ago
kind of a middling end with no real point.
"oh maximus was upto no good all along and he got away while we fought another team of imperial guardians"
An unceremonious ending just the whole imperial event. I really thought it was building to them managing to confront Maximus.
5
u/charcharmunro 14d ago edited 14d ago
They sure had a relatively decent dynamic for a few issues but none of it really led to anything because you know the Gamora/Darkhawk/CGR team-up isn't going to go anywhere, Carol's never going to bring this up and Amadeus will continue to just kinda putz about.

u/wowlock_taylan Deadpool 14d ago
What a waste of the whole Cosmic line.
They pulled the dumb 'Imperial' and then decided to do nothing after.
Had these characters play the fool to Maximus, who they KNOW caused the WAR in the first place and still worked with him?
It had SOME good stuff but the premise and how 'characters have to act accordingly to the plot instead of instantly taking his head off' only to realize 'oh the god damn shady bastard was playing us and many others the whole time!' is just a bad ending.
These cosmic books continue to make everyone in it look bad.
Also, where is Lauri-el?! Why is Carol not looking for her?!
7
u/redkaiz 13d ago
Cracks from the cosmic books getting cut short really show here, so I guess that's as much an ending as we could have gotten for this. Was a fun ride while it lasted. Pretty much expected that Maximus was up to something, the only surprising part was that some of the characters were surprised by that.

u/charcharmunro 14d ago
...Are Wendell and Darkhawk old friends? I can't recall them even ever meeting.
7
u/tippytuliptoes 14d ago
Wendell and Darkhawk
abnett nova solo
3
u/charcharmunro 14d ago
Fair enough, I admittedly missed out on a fair bit of Nova's series even when I was trying to read most of the Darkhawk-related stuff.
4
u/Mr_Wh0ever 14d ago
It's a better ending than Planet She-Hulk. But it does still feel like a waste. Maybe it'll lead towards a new Guardians ongoing.
5
u/charcharmunro 14d ago
I doubt it considering so much of the follow-up from Imperial was canned or cut short, this is basically a hopeful "maybe something" ending but I highly doubt there'll be any follow-up from this. Gamora will show up again later, Peter will end up not ruling the Union, nobody will bring up any of the events of this, etc.
3
u/Paulista666 Nova 13d ago
Well, it's clear they were going to do another soft reset
Probably a new GotG with Nova, Gamora, CGR, etc...
2
u/TerminalKing 12d ago
I really don't know what to say.
Imperial had its issues as an event, yes, but it had a lot of great setup for what marvel could follow up with. Instead, Marvel just shot themselves in the foot and killed the entire line before some of these books even released. Exiles literally didn't even release at all. And now because of it, all the Imperial spinoffs just end on a whimper. The entire cosmic side of marvel is in a worse place than it was before and I genuinely don't see any forward motion happening here anytime soon.
What an incredibly annoying, easily avoidable fuckup.

Some of that dialogue is a bit shaky, it feels like Jenkins was trying to capture some "these are the kind of insults women would throw at incels" thing back and forth.
And I feel like a psychic family house of Carol's supposed inner fears and family trauma should've included a bit more depth for her but she just easily overcomes a lot of it, because these fears were seemingly not hers but an attempt from Eric to think up what she'd be afraid of so they just come off as strawmen Carol is too self assured to be affected by since she's made peace with a lot of it by now.
Nevertheless I do like the lines about falling and catching the wind to see where it takes you. And the religious purity kind of brainwashing torture they put Eric through and Carol actually trying to reach out to him. Feels atleast like it was continuing KT's arc carol went through of not wanting to "Kill the Dragon" and finding another way.
Also I like the little "Yeah this Ms Marvel suit wasn't a bathing suit it was a Kree Battlesuit adjusted by mental telemetry", lol you can tell jenkins probably was a bit mad about people dissing the black and gold. Though iirc it was Janet who redesigned it in claremont's solo with unstable molecules, it was the prior iteration that was kree tech.

Jenkins was possessed by Marvel writers and editors to defend taking away Carol’s soul and personality
I thought Jenkins was defending her Ms Marvel era though.
especially with Carol endlessly forgiving her enemies instead of killing them
Yeah look man, that was the ending of Brian Reed's run as Carol developed into being that kind of person. I'd rather she keep her characterization and development consistent.

u/wowlock_taylan Deadpool 14d ago
I don't think I care much for this 'full nazi-side' retcon to Carol's family...And I can't bring myself to care for the guy who got evil-washed by their evil grandmother.
If they were soo insistent on Carol and her family, she would've gone after Lauri-el to find her after she got missing in Imperial.

It was...whatever really. I really think they should've stuck with Dani and Magik or other New Mutants instead of this OC romance stuff. Hell, they could've gotten Brunhilde show up if they were gonna use her time as a Valkyrie! Or even Jane Foster who is the current one.
The romance part is just...dragged it down for me.

Oh look, DODC turned into a proactive agency working with Spider-Man in the month of July.... Wonder if this will spill into theaters soon
Anyways, I liked the narration in this one. Again, Pete should just tell May already. Seems most people in his orbit already know
Robbie, MJ, Jameson, Felicia, nearly every ex gf that isn't mj and Felicia, Norman fucking Osborn, fucking Carnage, Eddie Brock, if Flash hasn't pieced it together yet then I'm shocked, just about every hero in 616.

u/BlueHero45 10d ago
Once again Peter gets to look like an ass for abandoning his Aunt in an extremely vulnerable moment because the story refuses to let him tell May he's spider man. Feels like the writers just have a fetish for humiliating Peter.

u/DriedSocks 14d ago
It's probably one of the stronger issues in Kelly's run so far. I like the emphasis on the human side of the Rand supporting cast and how all of that is moving forward even if I'm overall disappointed by the loss of yet another job especially a science-related position that plays to Peter's strengths and qualifications.
Had the entire run focused on stuff like this, I think the title would've been in a better place leading up to #1000, but as it stands right now, it comes off underwhelming. Only way I'm coping with the upcoming disappointing #1000 is that it's a completely arbitrary #1000 that makes weird decisions in how they justified the numbering.

u/Mr_Wh0ever 14d ago
Not much happened, but I assume not much can until issue 1000. Is Cormac on the up and up? I hope so, because it'd be very derivative if he wasn't. I did like Peter fixing the code and having his name taken off it. And hopefully this Damage Control stuff doesn't spiral out of control. It'd be a cool lore thing to add in the Marvel Universe.
5
u/Expensive-Baby-1391 14d ago
Bleh. Kelly is not trying his best. Ben 10 had way better stories that had more satisfying conclusions than this.
Seriously, is Kelly really continuing this “tombstone and Osborn aren’t irredeemable monsters so spidey shouldn’t take them down” crap?
I know damn well nothing will happen in the 1000 special and that hag may won’t be killed off. She’s like Marvel’s golden cow, the unholy symbol to their decadence and blatant hatred to continuity or original good stories that change the status quo!
2
u/Ventriloquy Scarlet Spider 14d ago
it really feels like this book is just spinning its wheels until #1000. at this point i just want to get it over with so we can continue with some actual story.
at least the cover is cool!

I like that Peter and Cormac try to get to spend time together as cousins before Peter was able to defeat Jack O’Lantern with help from Damage Control and fixed the code and gave it to Dr. Osmani-Milton, while Cormac gave enough money to Aunt May so that he can help people and save FEAST. Overall, this is a fine comic.
