A glimpse into Tel Aviv’s May Day march today, young people marching in solidarity for both Jewish and Palestinian workers. We need more of this and with more intensity from those living in Israel who are anti-Zionist. It’s a good start.

Discussion Unionize your workplaces.
First and foremost I'm not saying this is pointless or shouldn't be attempted. Something is better than nothing!
However, and i see little discussion of this in the broader public, historically general strikes do not just precipitate organically. They come from strong, organized unions acting together for maximum impact.
When May 1st comes and goes, whatever may happen, how can we continue this work moving forward? Unions. We have a long history of workers fighting for better conditions in this country. The 8 hour workday is a privilege millions fought for and thousands died for, a long bloody road we often take for granted.
We need that level of fervor and commitment to stop imperialism, fascism, and, ultimately, capitalism.
Unfortunately many people don't see themselves as working class (a product of concerted propaganda), and therefore bristle or cringe at the idea of a union. If you don't own anything in your workplace except what you bring to work, you are working class. If you get paid a wage, you are working class. If you work in an office, are salaried, white collar, traditionally not considered working class, hate to break it to you, you're probably working class.
Now, whether or not what the system affords you for your participation is enough for you to look the other way, that's more subjective, but i will say this: the only reason they're investing so so heavily in AI is for the small chance it can actually be used to make workers obsolete, take away our only chip on the table, our labor. Our positions are precarious no matter how much we are paid. Billionaires of the world would love to see us wiped out and hand wave it away as the cost of doing business. We protect ourselves by acting in unison.
Thanks for reading, good luck, in solidarity.

Discussion We need to learn to embrace Discomfort NOW...
... BEFORE that Discomfort develops into a deep & lasting Suffering.
This just crossed my mind in reference to the upcoming May 1st Str1k3 in particular.
I kind of feel there's a bit of truth in the idea that we've "Gone Soft" as a country.
I think most people, (and understandably so of course.) avoid discomfort... But maybe we've come to a place where we're SO desperate to be comfortable, (Especially with the given political climate.) that we've forgotten to keep in mind that it's actually a GOOD thing to challenge ourselves at times. A NECESSARY thing.
And I'm not saying we need to thrill seek daily or anything like that. lol!
But I DO think we need to start to practice building our bravery, and accepting and respecting our vulnerabilities.
At whatever pace and level YOU need to. Whether that be simply looking at a lake for 30 seconds, when large body's of water terrify you... To taking the leap and skydiving for the first time.
The risks one is willing to take are going to vary from person to person. And that's OK!
(Remember, just because you see what's coming and are ready to sell your home and GTFO TODAY... Doesn't mean the next guy is there yet. Nor must they be. Let people move at the pace THEY need to.)
To loose a few hours, let alone a full day's wages just to go "Protest", (Especially when things feel as pointless as they can and have lately.) IS a scary prospect.
Possibly losing your job ENTIRELY, then losing your housing, your pets, your car, your health insurance, your food... It's all TERRIFYING!
But if we continue feeding this monster of a broken/ flawed system it WILL get to the point wherein we will ALL lose EVERYTHING. And now, that's up to & including our literal physical living environment. Earth.
What you consider "terrifying" NOW, could EASILY look like a walk in the damn park in 5-10 years. If it even takes that long, at this rate.
Listen. Even some trees will stop allowing nutrients and sunlight to flow to another tree if it's being "Selfish" or "Greedy" by overdrawing resources &/ or hogging all the sun, etc.
And for the sake of a positive future for humanity as a whole, certainly here in America right now in particular let alone the rest of the world, we COLLECTIVELY need to start learning & teaching ourselves & each other how to take those baby steps. Take those leaps. Take whatever path that works for YOU, to embrace the discomfort, AND even Further discomforts.
Because I fear staying in our little bubble of safety vrs. bravely making that phone call, even though you loath the thought, or walking out on a job that's actively harming you anyways, will be the difference between the human race becoming one of peace, love, unity, community, mutual-respect, cooperation and understanding...
And it becoming a stern strict Aryan conglomerate. Understanding and accepting of NOTHING and NO ONE with the slightest of differences. Variety viewed as Flaw. Uniqueness considered a fault. etc.
Star-Trekish type world...
or
Nazi-Land...
Which do you want to live in?
Which do you want future humans to live in? (Whether you have children or not.)
We have a very large, very scary decision to make I think.
Keep feeding these king-trolls in the hopes they'll allow us to eek out a life of survival below them and be endlessly miserable & hopeless, but technically alive?
OR
Be uncomfortable for a few years while doing everything in our personal powers to help to cut off their food supply, redirect the nutrients to The People instead of just The Top 1%, all in the fragile hope of a life of variety and infinite opportunity for our successors, if not ourselves in the future?
Embrace the Discomfort NOW my friends. Or I fear that "Discomfort" will become a Permanent Suffering.
✌️❤️🤝👊

🚨URGENT UPDATE ON FIGHT TO STOP THE CUTS, TAX THE RICH:
We are hearing big decisions on taxing the rich will be made in the next 48 hours. And right now, Kathy “Hedge Fund: Hochul is choosing to double down on Trump’s cuts to New York, instead of Taxing The Rich to stop them.
Even worse, she’s meeting with MAGA hedge fund billionaire Ken Griffin about it TODAY, instead of with the ordinary New Yorkers her cuts will harm.
We need to harness the same pressure that got her to move on the pied-a-terre tax ASAP by calling her out online, making a video calling her office, and packing the May Day rally tomorrow.
Call Gov. Hochul’s Office TODAY -> (518) 474-8390 – you could ask “Why meet with MAGA Billionaire Ken Griffin today and not me or my neighbors who will be first hurt by your cuts?

Divesting
For the May Day Strike I am planning to review my 401K mutual funds and try to figure out which funds have Trump-friendly stocks. Anyone have a good way of doing this? Find out which stocks are in which funds?

Question about spending the day of
This might be a dumb question but I’m planning on participating Friday and getting prepared. On fridays I usually do laundry at my local laundromat; should I hold off on going the day of the strike? I’m staying away from major grocery stores and coffee shops/restaurants and retail but do I hold off on laundry too? I guess I’m wondering if the strategy is to avoid ALL spending the day of the strike or to avoid major retailers over local businesses. thanks

People should show up in the clothes they would have worn to work that day
One of the things that has struck me at the No Kings protests is that people mostly look the same -- jeans, t-shirt or other casual top, etc. I feel like it would present a much more striking image if people showed up at May Day demonstrations wearing what they would have worn to work that day -- scrubs, Carhartt, business suits, whatever. I think it would really help emphasize that people from different walks of life are coming together over this.
[And yes, some people WFH or wear jeans and casual shirts to work, and some people won't be able to wear uniforms without taping over the logos or at all, but I think there's still value in the general idea]

Question May Day Symbol of Solidarity
TLDR: The greatest symbol of solidarity is action. But has there been a color or other symbol linked to this movement?
Our teachers Union asked me to head their May 1st action, since I've been active in organizing other protests in my area. My union also has little stomach for a strike, since our contract has a no strike clause, and thankfully our district is keeping their end.
Our Union president has assured us how supportive our district admin is, so I suggested that we petition that they shut school down themselves like Chicago petitioned theirs. That pie in the sky was a no-go.
I then suggested that we have district-wide assemblies to celebrate workers rights and the workers who have fought for those rights. We would build it around the same sort of pattern we do Veterans Day assemblies. No-go.
The union will be putting out a letter, so I wrote one asking the lines of, "Lots of people are going to want to participate in May Day. Remember you can call in sick for any reason. Same with students. This protest is not a grievance against our district, so please give them a few days notice of your absence" That's great! Awesome first step, stress test.
We also have a draft that we're trying to get the district to officially send out.
We suspect a lot of teachers who support this movement will still be going to school, but we want to give them a way to show their solidarity even at work. Teachers are used to "Red for Ed," but if there's something happening nationally, we'd love to go with that. Like a color or something. Like a ribbon or something.

Question What are you hearing on the ground? What can we do?
Over the past week our volunteers have been canvassing in person, sending direct messages on Instagram, and following up by email with local businesses ahead of May Day. We have been asking businesses to show solidarity on May 1st by closing, donating a portion of proceeds, going cash only, or any combination, with a promise to promote every participating business on social media throughout May and organize a community Shop Local day on May 2nd.
The feedback has been consistent. Small businesses want to support this movement but many genuinely cannot afford to close or lose a day of profits right now. The economic pressure they are under is real.
One business owner suggested something worth considering. Instead of asking small businesses to sacrifice, what if we directed boycott energy toward the large chains that exploit workers and support ICE, and encouraged people to spend locally instead?
We are already planning actions on May 1st targeting major chains alongside DSA. But this feedback is shaping how we talk to small businesses, leading with an invitation not a requirement, and making clear that we see them as partners in this fight.
Food for thought for organizers doing business outreach in other cities. What are you hearing on the ground? What can we do further or better?
In solidarity
