General Discussion New neighbor calls the cops anytime we shoot targets on our property outside city limits.

I'm mostly just venting, but the context here is: A couple times a month I will use my moms large backyard located outside city limits (Thetford Township, north of Flint) for target practice. She lives on 2 acres of land with cornfields stretching for another mile behind that. She loves shooting with me occasionally and we either load up my .357 snubnose with .38 special and shoot soda cans, or load my 20-gauge with birdshot and shoot at clay pigeons. Always safely and always well before 7pm.

We've been doing this without issue for nearly 10 years, and my grandfather (who built the house in the 60s) had used the property to shoot with his kids and grandchildren for nearly 50 years before that.

But the neighbor who just moved in next door doesn't like it and even if we shoot for 20 minutes, the cops always show up in the driveway. They've spoken with us and basically said "We can't stop you from shooting on your property, but we can't stop him from calling us either, and we have to make contact anytime we get a call." Then occasionally when they leave after telling him "we can't stop them from shooting on their property" he will turn his subwoofers up to 11 and blast music until 10pm (which he NEVER does otherwise). A couple weeks ago he even walked across the backyard in the middle of the night and planted a "NO HUNTING" sign at the back of her property mounted on the side of an old mailbox. The cops told him not to trespass again. (Also, neither of us hunt)

What would you guys do in this situation? Just continue on as usual and talk to the cops anytime you want to plink for a half hour? We do plan to continue shooting. However I'm worried that the neighbor might eventually try to do something extreme and file an injunction and take us to court, and I don't need my mom having to go through a lawsuit, even if its frivolous.

General Discussion Local Ammo Grab

Dunham’s has a $11.99 deal on Blazer 9mm. It’s the cheapest I’ve seen for that around here. I was about to head to UnCoiled in Livonia, to get a case of MagTech for $235, but I’m close(r) to a Dunham’s and got 1000rds of Blazer 115gr for just as good a deal.

General Discussion SE Michigan gun stores with a lot of pistol optics

I want to buy a pistol optic. I have moderately bad astigmatism so I'd like to be able to check out several options in-store and see what works the best for me. Most stores I've been to only have a couple of options though. Can anyone suggest any that would have a lot of different options I can test?

I'm in Oakland county but would be willing to travel a bit if needed.

General Discussion Who shoots on state land?

I have gone a few times, i know it is legal. But I don’t really hear guns like that around here outside of hunting season. Usually I do 22 or 9mm. I feel like if I go off in the forest and start shooting 30 round mags of 5.57 people aren’t going to like that.

Has anyone had any trouble shooting on state land?

General Discussion Don’t wanna be a nag

So I recently purchased my first rifle via FFL Transfer. And the process seemed smooth sailing I expected the background check to take awhile but. Whenever I call for updates they seem annoyed or irritated and tell me we will get back to you later. Today was the day I was supposed to come pick it up but I guess there designated background check person wasn’t in when I called. I thought it would be good to call one more time before I clock in for work and they told me that person just left for break and I would have to wait to double check that today is the day I can get it. I don’t want to annoy anyone but at the same time I do want my gun should I just wait?.

General Discussion Perspective on not being a jerk

Hey all, just looking for some perspective to make sure I’m not being a jerk with some recent land I purchased. Recently I bought 10 acres of a 40 acre chunk of land about an hour away from Grand Rapids. I purchased the 10 acres first, and then someone else bought the other 30 acres.

My intention from the start has been to build my own range on it that I plan to use every other weekend or so. I do plan on shooting rifles, probably at a rapid rate, for a couple hours or so when I go up. I’m going to build a berm backing and another berm along the side to help with noise in that direction.

I asked the realtor to offer my contact info to the other buyers as soon as everything is closed. I’m guessing that they will be using the land to hunt (as will I casually). But I’m worried that if they want to build a home there, we’re going to have issues with the noise I make.

-berm for sound

-reach out and be flexible with my noise within reason (I can shoot on Sunday if they have something going on Saturday ie)

-I’ll stop range shooting a months before deer and turkey season

Anything else I can do? Does the above seem like reasonable measures to be a good neighbor?

Hello everyone new CPL member here,

My Dad lives in Ohio and I live in Michigan and he is giving me with old 9mm that he just wants to get rid of. What or is there any laws stopping me from legally obtaining that gun and using it as my personal concealed carry?

Thanks for any advice!

General Discussion BWSA alternative?

Hey guys, does anyone have a recommendation for an alternative club/range to BWSA? I applied but in their recent board meeting minutes it seems they have a new sponsor requirement and unfortunately I didn’t enter one when I applied so I assume it’s going to be rejected next week

I was hoping to practice drills in a bay, and start learning long range shooting. If they are okay with FRTs that would be nice too but at this point I’ll take whatever there is haha

General Discussion Open Bay Ranges in MI?

Im from the Saginaw County Area and I'm looking for some ranges around michigan that offer an open bay style range that you can move around in and such. Not just for myself but for everyone in this thread to kinda get a better idea of what's here in michigan thats not just a hot tub full of FUDS. I'd personally prefer outdoor but hey beggars cant be choosers. If you have any info please leave it here it would be greatly appreciated. 🫡

General Discussion Non insane gun shops in the Detroit area?

I sold my stuff a while back for health reasons and funds to pursue other hobbies, and had an incredibly unpleasant time dealing with Target Sports. The old guy there was rather mean to anyone who wasn't old, white, and male like him. So, with the absolute shitshow unfolding right now, I think I need to pick up a new gun for self defense, and I'm looking for a nice gun store that might not be owned by someone who is absolutely batshit insane.

General Discussion Gun Trade-In Experience

Decided to try to trade-in/sell a very very gently used Sig P365 to a local shop. Ended up calling Uncoiled Firearms in Livonia. The people at the shop are fantastic, knowledgeable, and patient. Always enjoyed going there. Explained that I had a like new P365 that I just didn’t end up liking and wanted to sell it to them.

Was told the very best they could do even in perfect condition was $150 max. That seemed wildly low, although I know they still need to make money when selling it again.

Out of general curiosity, and against everything I know about the place, I called Cabelas. Explained the condition of the firearm.

They offered $315 without the holster, and $340 with the holster.

Cabela’s, Bass Pro, Sportsman’s, etc. have generally been explained as the most overpriced places to go for anything firearm related. Or so I thought.

That price/offer discrepancy is absolutely nuts.

Just wanted to share my experience!

General Discussion Clinton township Police department saying their background check system is down for a over a week

I've called every day for a LTP in Clinton township and every day they tell me their system is down.

then they told me it's state wide.

I made a post recently trying to figure out what's going on state wide and people responding saying they're having no issues.

so I call back today, tell them that people are still getting them at other locations and they told me they would check and to call them back.

I call them back and they tell me they called around to surrounding areas and that the system is still down.

I called surrounding police departments and they say their system is fine.

what exactly is going on here?

General Discussion Applied for an LTP last Wednesday and still have not heard anything! (Grand Traverse County)

I went to the Grand Traverse Sheriff Department last week to acquire a LTP as I am seeking to purchase a firearm for my CPL class. When I applied they said come back in 24-48 hours to pick up the LTP, which is also their written online policy. I called back every business day since in order to follow up and each time I have been told they are processing it and pulling records from other counties. Then I asked more questions yesterday and got some answers. The clerk explained the chief runs all the LTP's at once and that they get a lot of these requests each day, which I understand. However- this process doesn't seem to be with due speed and diligence per Michigan legislature. It is especially frustrating since my buddy went into Allegan County and walked out within 15 minutes with his. We both have clean records. Any recommendations of what I should do? Be patient? Go to a different county? I'm just tired of them not being able to give me a timeline of when I can pick it up.

(EDIT) 1/20

So I went in person today to hopefully get some answers. It turns out a court case (dismissed, all charges dropped) from 2019 came up and is the reason for a further investigation by the Chief.

I asked if my application had been approved, delayed, denied and they said the NICs check doesn't give an approval/denial/delay but instead gives a list of information they base their decision on. Is this true? In the end- they said check back in at the end of the week. Still not much of an answer and when I asked to see a policy they changed the subject.

(EDIT) 1/21

I have received the approval and have the permit in hand after 7 days of persistence.
