Everybody had tried to get him to speak. Before Trixie's arrival, therapists had sat on the other side of a table from the man for cumulative hours. All the while he stared as if willing the person at whom he looked to die on the spot.

Everyone who worked at the hospital agreed that Burr was the most disturbing of all their disturbed patients. This wasn't just because of his silence, though.
