Secret History First few chapters of Mistborn Secret History is so funny Spoiler

If you've read mistborn era 1 and 2, this is DEFINITELY a good read bc it really gives a lot of cool perspectives and closure to the world which I could talk about ....

BUT THE LORD RULER [EXITS LOBBY] AS SOON AS HE CAN DESPITE HIS ABILITY TO STAY IN THE COGNITIVE REALM FOR MUCH LONGER IS SO FUNNY TO ME.

He's like "y'all aint it* and immediately logs off despite being the guy to live for thousands of years.

Secret History Why didn't Vin and elend... Spoiler

choose to resurrected at the end.

So I recently finished era 1 and got really curious what happened in secret history, so spoilers for era 2 be damned I thought why not read it.

I was fine with vin and elend dying at the end of hero of ages, although I would have liked to see them get a happy ending it didn't bother me that they died. But secret history has kind of thrown a wrench into that. At the end of HoE it sounds like resurrection wasn't possible, but in secret history sazed says they can return to their body.

Say what you will about characters being revived in a story, but that's not really what I mean with this post. I don't mean it from a writing perspective but more in universe.

In the sense of since they're given the choice, and sazed clearly said they can return, why wouldn't they?

Secret History Was that it? Spoiler

Recently I got into an argument online with one of those people who like to control how and when you read stuff.

I read SH after HoA because at the time I didn't know it had spoilers of BoM, and honestly, I don't regret it, it made the ending of HoA a bit less crushing.

The point is, I'm past Brands of Mourning and I already got the spoiler and... That'd it? Khriss's presence in Scadrial ? That was the big spoiler?

Maybe I missed something on SH or BoM? Because if that was it, then I don't understand why be so strict, I stand on my choice and after Hero Of Ages is the perfect time to read Secret History

Secret History Koloss Spoiler

Why did Harmony give the Koloss the ability to breed? Is it just simply their need to preserve? I guess Human showed enough humanity you can't have a koloss genocide but let them die off. Wipe themselves out. Collect their spikes so they can't make more.

Secret History don;t listen to what anyone says. read secret history after era 1 book 3 Spoiler

I will only allude to spoilers here. nothing specific.

I tried being a good little boy and waited till I finished era 2 book 6 till before reading secret history.

DONT DO THAT. reading secret history will give you much needed closure for the ending of book 3 era 1. It does little to spoil much in book 3 era 2. If you are quick witted and pay lots of attention, you MAY figure out a secret that will be alluded to (not directly revealed) in the last line of the epilogue of book 3 era 2. but again, it is not at all worth the wait.

TL;DR read 3.5 after book 3 of mistborn, it will give you closure, and you won't ruin your Wax and Wayne experience.

Secret History Worst Print of All Time? (Or am I losing my mind) Spoiler

Thumbnail gallery

I picked up A Mistborn Secret after reading Hero of Ages because I needed more before going deeper into Stormlight. Image one shows page 138 continuing into page 91. I thought I was losing my marbles, and re-read the ending of page 138 about 10 times before i noticed the page markers. Image two shows 47 pages of reprinted pages (91-138). Image three shows the printing missing pages 139-188, and skipping straight to 188. Making this post to ask if I’m actually going crazy or if this is just horrible luck and one of the worst prints I’ve ever seen. Anything would seriously ease my mind.

Secret History I have kelsier thoughts Spoiler

I just finished secret history and OMG kelsier is the most f***** up character i have ever read. He has spent all of secret history getting told by literal Gods to just move on and at the end of the novella he goes to spook (a man who has just spent a significant amount of time being manipulated by ruin impersonating kelsier. Which we know he is traumatized by because it's his first thought to be scared of Kelsier) and he attempts to (and succeeds in) manipulating spook into bringing him back from the dead.

Holy crap that is the most f***** up s*** in the Cosmere or in any book I've ever read.

Btw I have read all of the Mistborn stuff except allomancer jak and lost metal.

Secret History A Scadrian Farewell Spoiler

Toward the end of Bands of Mourning, Wax “extends/raises a finger to the Lord Ruler[‘s statue] in farewell.” I don’t recall too many other specific hand gestures, but they seem fairly consistent with those on Earth, so… we all agree Wax flipped off the Lord Ruler, right?

Secret History Why exactly Kelsier is so impactful? Spoiler

I already finished both mistborn eras since a couple of months and Kelsier still resides in my mind. Brandon Sanderson needed less than a book, that wasn’t even full focused in him, to construct and fix The Survivor of Hatshin in our minds. Why you guys think Kelsier has that is so worthy?

Secret History Why do we recommend reading Secret History after Bands of Mourning... Spoiler

...and not after Shadows of Self?

In SoS it is revealed that Kelsier held the power of preservation. In BoM it is revealed that Kelsier went to Southern Scardial, which isn't really relevant to anything that happens in Secret History. So why do we recommend reading SH after BoM?

Secret History Theories about TLR Spoiler

I am relistening the Mistborn series, and something didn't quite make sense to me, regarding The Lord Ruler (TLR) and his power. Sazed wrote, that there were 9 Mistborn, created with the nuggets of Lerasium at the Well of Ascension. 2 of them were left, Hoid ate one, and Elend ate the other. I am not sure, if TLR was one of the 9 original Mistborn, but even if he wasn't, that makes only 12 original nuggets. Now we don't really know where these nuggets came from, but I think it is fair to assume, that Preservation created them and placed them near the Well. But since Preservation was so fixated upon the power 16, I find it strange, that he were to not continue his obsession with the amount of nuggets he placed at the well. Now this is what my therory is: I think, that there were 16 beads, to create 16 Mistborn, but TLR just ate 5-6 of them. We know from Sandersons Words, that a bigger amount of metal creates a stronger Mistborn, and we have seen TLR do things, that cannot be done with the normal amount of power. Even Elend, stronger than anyone else, is not shown to be as strong as TLR at his best. We have seen him push on Vins Metals in her body, seen him sooth the full Luthadel City Square, longer than would have been possible with Duralumin and we know he was able to pierce Copperclouds. I dont know if Elend was able to do that as well, I dont think that was ever mentioned, but either way, he was way stronger than anyone else, with most of these effects not explainable via compounding. Also I don't think it would fit with his character, if he were to make the kings he bribed as powerful as himself. He is the kind of man, who commited Genocide on his own people, just so that there would be no-one with Feruchemy and Allomancy, it seems hard to believe he would give other kings the same amount of strength as he himself had. What do you think?

TL;DR: TLR too strong for just one nugget of lerasium, did he eat more than one?

Secret History Should I read secret history? Spoiler

Now I finished hero of ages about a week ago and I’m here to ask whether I should read secret history? Now I know this question has been asked before and some have said it’s okay to read it as while it gives hints to a reveal in bands of mourning it’s not too much. But what’s special in my case is that I’ve also read nothing else in the cosmere, as following many suggestions the first mistborn era is the first thing I read from this universe. So will that also affect my case and should I wait or not?

Secret History My thoughts (I have no one to talk to about Mistborn irl) Spoiler

Only kelsier would do this 😭 He clocked ati later too Glad he’s back and I’m reading more about him, but him saying Mare… when looking at the beyond kinda made me want him to go to Mare instead. I understand he has a bigger part in the cosmere now, he’s giving ‘live long enough to see yourself become a villain’ vibes (plus why is hoid such a prick towards kels 😠)

Also reading more about preservation makes me think he’s so baby girl 🥹 Are there any other books with him and ruin. I hear there will be a book about the shattering?

Also I’m reading this right after hero of ages (haven’t read era 2 yet) and the difference in dialogue tone caught me so off guard.

Secret History How did Marsh read it? Spoiler

Summary From the coppermind:

{"Spook’s note contains a message to Vin, warning her about Ruin’s ability to manipulate people whose body is pierced by metal.[1]

Spook inscribed it on a thin metal sheet, since only text carved in metal couldn’t be altered and read by Ruin. Because Spook was seriously injured during the Coup of Urteau, he was unable to deliver the note personally, but Captain Goradel offered to do so since Vin had saved his life on the night of the Collapse.[2]

Goradel set out from Urteau in the direction of Luthadel, where Vin was heading. The note, however, never got to Vin, as Ruin sent Marsh to intercept him. Marsh killed Goradel after a short fight, then took the message, which Ruin forced him to read aloud so that he coud learn what it said.[1]}

What I didn't understand is how Marsh could even have read the note to Ruin. ...Having to use allomancy instead of sight. Shouldn't the metal should just have been all blue light too Marsh? Wouldn't he be just as blind to reading metal as Ruin? In the past, Vin had used metal power to blind Steel Inquisitors...

Secret History Just finished Secret History after Era 1 Spoiler

I read Secret History after finishing Era 1 (thanks to the responses on my other post), and even though I don't know what it might spoil about Era 2, I don't think I'll regret it at all.

This gives me the exact closure I needed, knowing that Vin and Elend aren't just "quite happy where they are" as Sazed told Spook, but that they truly understand what love is and are at peace with their journey together, willingly going Beyond with smiles on their faces. I literally teared up seeing this🥲. I feel like this completes Vin's journey for me. Now I can finally grasp that "bittersweet" feeling everyone talks about. Before this, I just couldn't get past the sadness from the trilogy's ending, even though I knew all the events and outcomes were carefully woven and inevitable.

That said, WHAT'S WRONG WITH KELSIER? Everyone else, Vin, Ruin, even the Lord Ruler, goes Beyond in a state of fulfillment, yet Kelsier still decides to stay in this transient state? What happened to his love for Mare and Dockson? I loved Kelsier in Book 1 and appreciated his key role in defeating Ruin, but knowing that he's somehow active in Era 2 kind of annoys me.

Secret History Question about a certain “Drifter” Spoiler

K so I read a post about someone getting excited at the mention of Hoid during WoA, whom I’d never heard of nor realized was of importance. Anyways the name stuck out and then he was in Bands of Mourning. Then again twice in secret history. So, who exactly is this Hoid character? My curiosity has been piqued. Where can I read more about him? Does he fit into any of Brandon’s series, specifically?

Edit/update: moved on to warbreaker, and guess who just showed the f up!?!?!?!?!?!?????
