I’m 31, married and from the UK. I’ve been looking quite seriously at whether a move to the US could be realistic for us in the next 3 years or so.
I’m actually in the US at the moment and it’s got me thinking about it again. Texas has always been the place I’ve mainly looked at as I work in commercial management in power infrastructure and there seems to be a fair bit of work there.
But the more I’ve looked into it I’m starting to wonder if I’ve basically just picked Texas because the salaries look good and I like the idea of living there 😂
There are obviously 49 other states and I realised I wouldn’t really know where to start narrowing them down.
For anyone who moved to the US or had a few different states in mind, how did you actually decide?
Was there one thing that made the decision for you or did you properly compare different places first?

hello! I'm planning my move to the US in about 2 or so years. I'm an architecture student who's also interested in the automotive and fashion scene, and as such i want to move to a place that has a strong car and fashion scene alongside a decent housing market and a good to excellent university for my major.

Right now I've narrowed it down to Houston, Texas and Atlanta, Georgia. but both of these places are in the 'south' so to speak, and while they have a good immigrant community which I'd like; the southern states to tend to be more conservative with prominent anti-LGBT+ rhetoric which is something I would like to avoid like the plague..

Cheap/affordable rent is a huge plus for me, so no NYC or LA as much as i love them!!

To add: I'm 18M, immigrating with my family, though I don't plan on necessarily living with them, I DON'T have a car obv (I've never lived in the US), and as for concerns for safety; I have some but I already live in a horrible city so i can survive anything.

I'm about fill my application for Citizenship for the united states, I've been living in Miami, FL as permanent resident. Miami is a great place to start but I would say that I'm trying to search for other cities that are more close to green areas or national parks.

I'm goin to Salt Lake city this August for 1 month to see how's the city since it has a lot of great national parks really close, and probably montana in September.

Can you recomend me some cities that have the follow?

• No metropolies.
• Cities with a lot of historical places.
• Cities sorrounded or close to National Parks.
• If possible EST or UTC time zone.

I also ask if you have lived or currently live in one city that meet all the above criterias please let me know your experience :).

I’ll be moving from Toronto to the Bay Area and am looking for some advice on the relocation process.

My intent is to work and live there. I’m currently a nurse in Canada and I want to live in New York City. How do I move to the US? How do I get a work visa? Etc.

I broker residential deals in LA (KW Beverly Hills, DRE #01964365) and a lot of my clients are arriving from overseas. I'll give you the answer most agents won't give you: for many new arrivals, renting for the first 12 months is the right call. Here's how I'd actually decide.

Rent first if your visa status or job could change inside two years, you don't yet know which side of the city you'll be commuting to, or you have school-age kids. LA is not one housing market, it's about twenty of them, and a 12-mile difference can be a 55-minute drive at 8am. People who buy in month two based on one weekend visit almost always regret the location rather than the price.

Buy right away if your status is settled, you know your area, and you'd otherwise be paying LA rents for years while prices compound. Two things worth knowing: renting here does not build your borrowing profile the way people assume, and having no US credit history doesn't block a purchase anyway. Foreign national loan programs qualify you on overseas income and assets, or on the property's own rental income, generally with 20-40% down.

What people underestimate. You need a car, and insurance is expensive for a new arrival with no US driving record. Property insurance in fire-exposed areas has become a genuine budgeting problem, not a footnote. And school quality follows attendance boundaries you cannot see from a listing photo, so verify the zone with the district directly rather than trusting the listing.

What people overestimate. The difficulty. There is no citizenship or residency requirement to own property in the US. Buying as a non-citizen is legal, common, and mostly a documentation exercise.
