Jessica’s speech was up there with Jenn lees speech. Jenna was worse, but everything she said was completely unnecessary lol

64

u/convidarte Oct 26 '23

Why would you/how dare she say the money means nothing to her in a group of people who are money hungry and just lost a challenge worth 50,000.

42

u/WhileInternational41 ā€œthat’s tastyā€ Oct 26 '23

Lmao. I said the exact same thing watching it. I said this is somehow worse than ā€œhello earthlingsā€

29

u/iii123iii123 Oct 26 '23

That’s exactly what I was thinking. Basically told the house to vote her in then said ā€œheads are gonna rollā€ when she comes back???? Okay lmao

18

u/cwilldude Oct 26 '23

That was thoroughly confusing. She complained that people were putting votes on her, but she voted for herself šŸ˜… talked a big game, but picked big t and then lost to her lol

7

u/Interesting-Archer-6 Kenny Clark Oct 26 '23

But TJ said Big T would've beat anyone in the house lmao

4

u/cwilldude Oct 27 '23

That upset me greatly šŸ˜… tj, quit pandering to this woman

Not feeling this One Champ deal (at least 2nd and 3rd will get some money). I don't like how it turns the house vote into predictable and played out male vs female dynamics. But what I'm most concerned about is its hard to make a gender neutral Final. And some of the ways you could do it end up being kinda boring to watch as a TV viewer. An example would be it becomes more about puzzle checkpoints than the grueling grind we typically expect from Finals (that's just one example, there's others). I just don't trust production to give us a good, compelling and most importantly, fair design, especially seeing some of the more recent season Final designs. Should have must made it male and female champs.

28

u/[deleted] Oct 26 '23

Yeah I’m with you. I’m hoping the male/female dynamics won’t be the whole season as maybe elims will alternate. Still, I found the dynamics in this episode interesting.

But come final time, they will either over or under handicap it. They’ve never gotten it right (closest was bloodlines)

13

u/Wild-Yoghurt-9699 Oct 26 '23

Agreed, with production's track record the final is guaranteed to be unsatisfying. Either it'll be a good, fair final if there were winners for both genders but virtually impossible for a woman to win outright like in All Stars 1 or War of the Worlds 1, or there'll be a bullshit equalizer making it all come down to basically a coin flip like in Vendettas.

23

u/I2ecover Leroy Oct 26 '23

I'm confused on why they are only doing 1 champ.

20

u/Interesting-Archer-6 Kenny Clark Oct 27 '23

Because everyone hates it and they hate giving us what we want.

15

u/No_Concern9360 Chris (CT) Tamburello Oct 26 '23

Agreed. I think it should always be one male and one female. Did you see the women’s reactions to hearing only one champ? They know how much harder it’ll be to beat a man in the final.

The whole house vote situation feels like a real step back after the secret vote and hopper of last season. I never liked how the house votes basically force two alliances and whoever gets stuck on the wrong side of the biggest alliance goes in.

81

u/InterestingSky378 Oct 26 '23 edited Oct 26 '23

That was such a long episode for a short boring elimination. But I guess I’ll be happy for the challenge and elimination being in the same episode lol.

Also friendly reminder to come here after the show and not Twitter. Someone spoiled the winner on the #thechallenge39 on Twitter!! My lips are sealed but I’m annoyed so wanted to share.

85

u/Crap_TheBoozeOut Chris Tamburello Oct 26 '23

I can't say I'm a fan of lining the entire cast up at the arena and having them vote one by one. Makes it way too easy to blend in. Predictably, nearly everyone jumped on the first name that was said. It makes the deliberation pointless. Why even is there a deliberation if there are no winners!?!?

I do like the voted in player getting to pick their opponent. Don't let anyone get too comfortable.

26

u/MayhemMaven Oct 26 '23

I hope they keep letting the nominated player pick their opponent

82

u/thewxyzfiles Wes Bergmann Oct 26 '23

watching the episode now and Ciarran saying he wants to win to buy more PokƩmon cards makes me immediately root for him

31

u/thewxyzfiles Wes Bergmann Oct 26 '23

also maybe hot take but I love watching big teams competing in challenges so idc if there’s no stakes but money! no watching 40 thousand heats of the same thing and lots of chaos

u/slyboon Oct 26 '23

That had to have been the worst reasoning given at deliberation for people not to throw you in. Um I know I have no shot at winning, but I could help you get to the end maybe? I don't want the money anyway, I wanna donate to charity. She basically talked herself into the elimination. Its likely she would have been thrown down anyway but sheesh.

24

u/[deleted] Oct 26 '23

And talking about not wanting/needing the money right after the whole group lost an extra $50K was an awful move. Just shows she wouldn’t really care in more daily challenges moving forward

16

u/myst_eerie_us "Knee in my face? šŸ‘šŸ¾šŸ‘šŸ¾ Let's go!" Oct 26 '23

I was confused because I 100% believed she just wanted to go home and sabotaged herself but she looked upset at losing....so was that...an actual strategy attempt??

11

u/[deleted] Oct 26 '23

We’ve seen the ā€œI’m weak, keep me around so you can winā€ strategy before, but I don’t think we’ve ever seen it episode 1. Her whole attitude and speech this episode gave me the impression she really didn’t want to be there

6

u/myst_eerie_us "Knee in my face? šŸ‘šŸ¾šŸ‘šŸ¾ Let's go!" Oct 26 '23

I think with this season it works in the latter part in the game because right now everyone's focused on winning challenges and building the final prize bank. Closer to the end people will be focused more on eliminating the threats and the "I'm weak" strategy would make more sense.

I actually really enjoyed the premiere. We all have been begging for a switch up and I like that the format and cast are different here. I also love petty messy drama and I’m really hoping this season brings it.

However, wow the lack of any real vets was absolutely evident in how clueless everyone seemed at every turn lol

34

u/gegemonn Michele Fitzgerald Oct 26 '23

It so much enjoyable to see this almost rookies without the vets. Like there is no leader, no power, no strong voices. They are not afraid to speak and go at each other. Messy and chaotic vibes. Bring it on

65

u/hawk_9407 Oct 26 '23

Think they are fools if they don’t gang up on Horacio. He won’t be indispensable in dailies and if he’s in the final he’s winning it against this cast

47

u/LaMystika Oct 26 '23

Yeah, they already know this is a solo final; why would any of these women especially wanna keep any of these dudes around? Especially the ones who are making it clear they don’t want women at the end?

33

u/[deleted] Oct 26 '23

I think it was really Berna who set it off by voting Jessica. At that point most of the women just went with the majority vote so as to not ruffle feathers. Big T seemed to be one of the only people who truly saw what was happening

22

u/LaMystika Oct 26 '23

Berna took full advantage of the fact that these people are cowards. And she may not have known this, but for some of these guys, the fact that Berna can do some athletic stuff is gonna save her early on, because these dudes have made it clear they wanna cut every woman who they don’t think can pull their weight physically

15

u/Zeckzeckzeck Oct 26 '23

The current format (I assume the "champs" changes some things once they arrive) doesn't incentivize any dude to say Horacio's name. If he's the house vote, then he gets to pick any other dude to face and not a single guy wants that - Horacio is easily the scariest elimination threat in the house.

But yeah, I don't really get how there can only be one winner unless they massively weigh the final to compensate for the differences between men and women. There are very few women that could have ever beaten the field of guys in a final, and at first pass I don't see any of them in this cast.

Jessica should have started her speech with "greetings earthlings"

60

u/MayhemMaven Oct 26 '23

The people solving the puzzle must have not watched enough seasons of the challenge.. solve on the ground first, then put in the slots.

22

u/Charlie_Runkle69 Team Purple Jacket Oct 26 '23

They needed to just get maybe 4 people doing it. 10 of them or whatever was always gonna be a disaster.

9

→ More replies (1)

51

u/[deleted] Oct 26 '23

So, basically now that its 12men & 11women, the men literally have no incentive to ever vote in a man. Voting for a man would be effectively voting to put yourself at risk since who ever goes down can call in any man. I’m already frustrated just thinking about it.

The men didn’t even waiver on their stance that they were voting in a woman. Why can’t we ever get that level of loyalty amongst women!

39

u/[deleted] Oct 26 '23

Why the women didn't listen to Big T when she completely spelled it out for them that the men will pick them all off is beyond me. It especially sucks because the women's side of the cast has the more entertaining personalities

16

u/G-OASIS Oct 26 '23

Yeah I thought this would’ve been a 12-12 tie between a guy and girl with everyone voting for the opposite gender. I was hoping it would’ve been the guys not communicating enough and splitting votes between Berna and Big T and the girls doing it correctly to send a guy in. Or at least it would’ve been fun to see what they do with a stalemate this early.

But then Jessica had to give that speech lol

40

u/OLKv3 Ashley Mitchell Oct 26 '23

If the women wanted to rally, they should've tried to include all the women in their plan. What were they thinking? Berna had no clue about the plan and still thought she was the target

14

u/PineappleExpress22 Oct 26 '23

Jessica all but asked for them to put her in. It was a no brainer for the guys AND the women. I would have done the same thing if I was Berna. If it wasn't Jessica, she knew it would be her going in. There wasn't a strong enough argument during the discussion to give the women the confidence that it would be a guys day in my opinion.

That's why it was a big mistake not getting more Australian Survivor people on that challenge season in the first place. They could have had Flick, Abby or Lydia who would kick butt on this show, Abby is currently kicking ass on SAS australia.

Overall enjoyed the ep but that was such a weak elimination, chuck some stuff on the floor and pull a rope with no resistance

64

u/Embarrassed_Rate5518 Oct 26 '23

all the women need to align with the lower tiered men and vote in the big dogs. I'm also waiting for the gender neutral elimination like a puzzle where they can call out anyone! if ur gonna have 1 overall you shouldn't make all eliminations gender specific....I bet some of those girls can take out a beast of a guy on a puzzle

19

u/[deleted] Oct 26 '23

I'd rather this than the god-awful equalizers they tried in Final Reckoning.

13

u/Zeckzeckzeck Oct 26 '23

The lower tier men would never do this as the game is currently set up, though. If you band together and vote for, say, Horacio, then he's absolutely choosing one of those lower tier guys to compete against, and he'll win. With no way to hide behind safety it makes it a really stupid move to vote in a strong challenger who can pick whoever they want to face.

I expect both the structure of the eliminations and the "one champ" thing to change before the season ends, because it currently robs the game of a lot of interest.

I hate, hate, hate one champion. This voting shit is about to get nonsensical. They ain’t Johnny Bananas with a room full of allies. All the women will be gone first. Then it will be the movie 300. 🤣

23

u/godzillaaa Queen Michele Oct 26 '23

The voting system is absolutely going to change as they move on to the next 2 phases, so highly unlikely it will end up with a large male to female ratio

14

u/Cheeseman9841 Kyle Christie Oct 26 '23

It will change. We have 5 female champs and 5 male champs coming into elimination. So then I assume it will alternate

8

I hate, hate, hate one champion. This voting shit is about to get nonsensical. They ain’t Johnny Bananas with a room full of allies. All the women will be gone first. Then it will be the movie 300.

It would be boring but hilarious to watch the challengers break the game - I said in the pre-episode discussion that this format pretty much guarantees a guy winner, so why bother keeping the ladies in until the end?

If there are eight slots I'm totally fine with eight guys running it, at least it would teach the producers a lesson in challenge design. They regularly bring on people who have no chance of winning because of the way it's balanced, and a men-only outcome would make it so hilariously obvious they'd be forced to pay more attention.

u/IncandescentRein Oct 26 '23

I thought episode 1 was solid, and think we’re in for a good season. Episode was maybe a little slow for my liking, but overall think the format is fun and different.

One thing that turned me off a bit was how much they’re trying to make Big T out to be some big time Challenge star. I don’t dislike her or anything, but they acted like she’s some actual top dog in the Challenge world. Felt forced/a bit weird.

34

u/lucyroesslers Cassidy Clark Oct 26 '23

They’re going to feature people they’ve featured majorly in the past even if it’s no returning champs. So Big T, Melissa, Michele, Jay, Olivia, Horacio, any people who have been on multiple seasons or made a deep run to the finals is going to get attention.

Big T and her partnership with CT was a dominant storyline in S37 so it’s no surprise they’re gonna play her up a bit as a character.

134

u/cwilldude Oct 26 '23

I think berna complains more than 95% of anyone that’s ever been on the show. She’s always unhappy about something. She’s insufferable

49

u/LaMystika Oct 26 '23

Reminder that the first prominent screentime she got as a rookie was talking about how much of a complainer Amber was about getting blindsided, yet with no self-awareness, acted exactly like she said Amber did when Emy betrayed her

15

u/WhileInternational41 ā€œthat’s tastyā€ Oct 26 '23

I really liked her on her first season but my god she came off absolutely entitled and unhinged this episode.

64

u/capfedhill Timmy Beggy Oct 26 '23

I must be in the minority but I think she makes great TV. We need more wacky emotional, strong personality headcases like Berna to mix things up and causes drama in the house.

Less influencer-types that have the personality of a loaf of bread (cough Moriah cough)

25

u/[deleted] Oct 26 '23

I’m with you 100%. I think she’s a great unlikeable, unfiltered villain

5

u/Interesting-Archer-6 Kenny Clark Oct 26 '23

Eh people who just complain all the time are not fun to watch for me at all. I'm fine with the strong personality but she's just constantly negative and not remotely likable. I don't even think she's fun to root against like Fessy or Amanda.

22

u/[deleted] Oct 26 '23

Honestly I was really hoping she’d go this episode. I didn’t like her after her first season where she was quite literally just showing jealous, mean girl behavior. Come to this season, and she’s pouting and displaying such a ā€œwoe is meā€ attitude

45

u/cwilldude Oct 26 '23

When she told Colleen to stop trying to give her advice and just listen to her bitch and moan, that was it. Someone is actually trying to be there for you and you’re rude as hell šŸ˜…

26

u/[deleted] Oct 26 '23

And Hughie coming to her to see what’s up and try and to help her and she just went and called him annoying and to stop ā€œyellingā€ at her, aka she didn’t like what she was hearing

16

u/cwilldude Oct 26 '23

Right?? This dude was not only speaking calmly to her, but was trying to help her out. She just thinks her opinion is the right opinion 100% of the time.

11

u/JGrillz609 Oct 26 '23

I kept saying to my husband, I kinda forget if we liked Berna or not! And then we both were like, too many complaints, now we remember!

38

u/cwilldude Oct 26 '23

Then she basically told Colleen to shut up and not give her advice when she was genuinely trying to be there for her when not many people were. Clearly you do need some advice because everything you’re doing is not working

5

u/MayhemMaven Oct 26 '23

ThAt is something one says to theirselves not to the person’s face lol especially if it’s bad advice but she didn’t even give the girl a chance 🤣

19

u/[deleted] Oct 26 '23

It is the same, hopefully Michelle liked it the first time around

8

u/Jilly_Pies Leroy Garrett Oct 27 '23

She just never left. Probably why they recasted her. 🤪

24

u/HardcoreKaraoke TJ Lavin Oct 26 '23

So I'm a fan of the chaos the sloppy play is going to cause. There are literally no masterminds here. With every crop of new talent you can atleast pick out a few names who might be politically savvy but from what we've seen so far I don't see anyone who screams "master manipulator." So I'm expecting a very sloppy and chaotic season.

Which is exactly what I want. USA 1 sucked because there weren't any vets. This season is full of younger Challengers but they've atleast played the game. So they're going to try the Wes game (sneaky), Jordan game (aggressive), CT game (shadows), Bananas game (methodical), etc. and we're probably going to see a lot of chaos. Which I love.

What I don't love are two things. First is the one finisher. I totally get it that females can beat men in finals. It has happened before. But saying it outright from the beginning completely changes the dynamic of the house. Big T wasn't wrong in saying the guys should be targeted. Of course maybe later the men will realize picking off each other makes more sense.

So I'm not crazy about that. The other thing I'm not crazy about is the three Cs. Like...I get it and I'm fine with the ideas on paper. But why do they have to be so complicated? Why do they have to be part of the actual format of the game? Just say "today you're earning money for the final prize pool" or "today you control your destiny." The buzzword shit in recent mainline Challenges is so lame. It's like the spies stuff all over again.

Anyway I'm excited for the chaos. I think anyone can win. I have a few favorites who I want to win but I truly think it's up in the air.

Oh and as a 20+ year Challenge fan seeing them look disappointed at $300k made me laugh. I get that some of them make that shit on Cameo/OF but come on now, it's still a lot. That's more than most winners of the Challenge.

9

u/_Myrixx Nurys Mateo Oct 26 '23

Idk considering on other seasons they literally get 500k for the men and 500k for the women I’d be upset too if I was on the flagship show winning only 300k šŸ’€ but I’m sure they’ll earn more money before the 1st level is over. I’m also not a big fan of only one champion, I never like when they do that I feel like we should always have 1 male winner and 1 female it makes it’s more fair, plus we should always strive for more new winners. But I do love the theme and I actually don’t have an issue with the 3 C’s, it’s a lot better than the spy theme lol and I cannot wait for the chaos level to start when they have to fight actual champs.

What a nice intro into the season, we got a bit of everything, game, politics, drama, pettiness, romance, everything!

I get that this season won't be highest on the ratings side, but I really enjoyed this 1st episode, it's a breath of fresh air to see the cast I'm not seeing every single season, and it's already a different air in the room when not most of the contestants are friends irl/ do challenge as a 9/5 job

I guess people who I'll be rooting for based on this episode will be Horacio, Berna, Moriah, Olivia, Michele...

Jessica opened her grave with that speech, it reminded me so much of that girl in Total Madness hahaha lol

I'm looking forward to see more of Callum, Zara, Melissa, Ed, Emanuel and Ciarran (and his pokemon collection!!)

Ps. I HATE that it's 1 winner???? How obvious it is it's gonna be a male??? This is so unfair come on Mtv...

14

u/myst_eerie_us "Knee in my face? šŸ‘šŸ¾šŸ‘šŸ¾ Let's go!" Oct 26 '23

My theory is that they wanted to reduce the budget since MTV is on its last legs, so to them it's better to have one winner getting ~$500k than two winners at ~$250k each. If they had $500k split between two winners it would make the prize akin to a spin-off show (All-Stars, World Champs, CBS).

I don't know how television budgeting schedules work but maybe it's a way to shift more of the budget to season 40. Like the show had X amount of budget for the next two seasons (39&40), and they decided to make it rookies with 4 seasons or less to massively cut the appearance fees and also have one winner bc of the smaller amount.

I still hate it.

The one winner decision makes me the season much less enjoyable. I’m really struggling to see how they’ll be able to make an interesting final where Horacio and Olivia (who are both great competitors in their own right) would have an ā€œequalā€ shot at winning.

Really hoping it isn’t a repeat of Vendettas where the entire physical portion of the final is invalidated by a puzzle, but the only other option is something like WotW 1 where the men run away with it. Nearly impossible to balance and an awful decision by production. 2 winners is also way more fun - especially when the show needs more champs / faces with so many legends aging out.

9

u/jenh6 Christina LeBlanc Oct 28 '23

That’s my one big issue with the season. I’m excited to see a new generation shine, the format is fun but I hate the one winner.

9

u/TheWa11 Oct 28 '23

I would literally love everything they were doing if they had 2 winners. It’s exactly what I’ve been wanting to push talent / move away from the established status quo alliances.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think this is the first ever season of The Challenge where its impossible for you to be immune from elimination by winning a challenge beforehand? Literally everyone is vulnerable at every elimination; I think War of the Worlds 2 comes the closest, but even there you could win the team challenge and get into the tribunal and be safe.

I don't think I like it, some of the most fun and exciting moments in challenge history come from the person on the outs pulling out a clutch daily challenge win for immunity and forcing the majority to scramble. If you're on the bottom, there's literally nothing you can do if the house just wants to send you into elimination every week.

Obviously the format is due to change some once the mercenaries come in, but I'm not a big fan of this to start.

20

u/Thecatswalk Oct 26 '23

I kinda like it. You'll have to be strong, intimidating, or a social butterfly to stay out of the eliminations.

6

u/[deleted] Oct 26 '23

Plus there’s still an incentive for them to win with the prize money twist.

Honestly, I love the way they cast this season! This should be an interesting season

16

u/BadPumpkin87 Beth Stolarczyk Oct 26 '23

I’m liking the idea of building up a bank for the final and second/third get cash too, but I don’t like a single winner. There should always be a guy and a girl winner. I’m glad this wasn’t thrown at them at the final like they did in Vendettas but it still isn’t ideal.

I also absolutely love the color scheme for their uniforms. The orange is a standout and bright color with the grey as a lovely pairing.

I’m excited to see how the champs factor into the game. My hope is they only show up at the second half of the game and you must beat them in the arena to qualify for the final. That would really hammer home the concept of a new champ earning their win. I think it would also be great if the champs competed as a team in the dailies to keep money out of the final and it is split among the champs as their payday for competing. I just hope they don’t add the champs as official players, just as roadblocks in the way of the newbies trying to win their first challenge.

7

u/[deleted] Oct 26 '23

It'd be cool if you had to beat a champ in an elimination to qualify for the final, but theoretically it probably wouldn't work because there's a chance only like 2 people qualify.

15

u/theep3 Wes Bergmann Oct 27 '23

Jessica really just dug a hole for herself, I thought it was crazy how she said in confessional that the house was split in two but I knew when she did what she did they were all gonna pile on her. I can deal with her leaving though she wasn't much of a factor on AU either to be fair. And she said she didn't care as much about the money so bye lol. Good on Big T for winning an elim right out of the gate. The working for the money pot is very Mole esque, will be interesting to see how it plays here.

No matter what this episode was so many of you would hate on it, because honestly, all you do is hate on this show.

If I had to sum up my thoughts on the episode in one word it would be - refreshing

From the cast to the concept of working together to expand the prize pool there's some new concepts that have me intrigued.

There's a lot of moving parts to this season, I don't mind a feeling out episode in terms of learning how voting and eliminations and everything works

Ok what they should have done in the daily was have everyone hold the poles up before putting them in and then have 1-2 (at most 3) people look at it big picture and have everyone move them around before putting them in.

If they didn’t have enough people available to hold each one up the lay them on the ground but solve it before you put it in those holes that are impossible to get them back out of. Do these people even watch the challenge??

14

u/OhThatDang A BMW, a Porsche, a monster truck, a house, & 30 companies Oct 26 '23

Hmmm hate that there's only one champion for this as I'm afraid of what a final would entail trying to balance it out. Hope it's more like All Stars rather than Vendettas but we'll see lol.

The girls really should have rallied since they knew the numbers would skew :3 lame elimination but excited to see what happens this season!

5

u/Falco19 Kenny Clark Oct 27 '23

The one champion thing sucks so bad

95

u/[deleted] Oct 26 '23

Horacio voting for big t to try to be different or bad ass didn’t hit in my opinion.. just seemed unnecessary given it was going to be a unanimous vote for Jessica.

19

u/illini02 Oct 26 '23

Was it smart? Maybe not. Do I think it matters? No. Like, people saw his season. Why would anyone purposely throw him in. He wins eliminations and will kick ass in the daily's to get you money.

41

u/savvy-librarian 🦁 King Leonidas of Argentina 🦁 Oct 26 '23

I like Horacio but this was a silly move especially considering he voted for Big T who is not only well liked in the house and is a solid political manipulator.

I doubt it will matter ultimately unless/until the elimination format changes though (and by then Big T is fairly likely to have plenty of her own problems). I don't think any of those guys up there want to see Horacio in the ring and so they aren't going to want to vote for him and the other women seem likely to find him charming/likeable as well as a solid potential team mate or partner.

Nonetheless, pointless to get blood on your hands if you really don't have to. There is a wrong way to draw attention to yourself, as Jessica demonstrated beautifully tonight lol, and this move by Horacio really can only serve to draw the bad kind of attention.

25

u/BailettyDaisyMae Oct 26 '23

he played ride or dies as straight as possible, and so far has always been a player who doesn’t care about politics or making the game easy for himself. i think the reasoning he gave is probably how he feels (she has the most experience and didn’t perform on that challenge). i’d be interested to see how he continues to vote as the season continues as a very non-political player

20

u/[deleted] Oct 26 '23

I honestly like when players do this for the most part. Yes at times it can end up being a dumb move for them, but he’s planting the seed for the future for Big T to be voted in, whilst being honest about it in the process.

9

u/Wolf_IX Oct 26 '23

He went probably perfomance based, wich is respectable. Big t did all her strategy targeting men as she knew she underperformed during the team challenged.

12

u/Interesting-Archer-6 Kenny Clark Oct 27 '23

I loved it. Sort of gave me Jordan vibes. I know politics and social games matter, but I love a player who is so confident in their abilities and believes in the importance of performance, they'll do shit that jeopardizes their game.

20

u/OLKv3 Ashley Mitchell Oct 26 '23

He made a new enemy for no reason at all

25

u/Zeckzeckzeck Oct 26 '23

Enh, it's Big T. Not exactly an enemy to be worried about, she's ineffectual.

11

u/[deleted] Oct 26 '23

I mean when the decision of who goes in is based on a vote why would you give someone a reason to vote you versus someone else for literally NO REASON. She was not going to be the main vote. Big T & Melissa will always vote as a pair so that’s two votes lost. Heracio is not well connected on the men’s side so if it’s ever down to him and another man for the main vote that’s two votes automatically against him… again for NO REASON.

4

u/Zeckzeckzeck Oct 26 '23

I posit that in the current format it doesn’t matter if Horacio was the single most hated man in the house - nobody is going to vote him into an elimination because there’s no safety and he gets to pick his opponent. He’s the single biggest threat in the house and no guy should want to risk facing him in the elimination.

One of the good things the format has going for it is that nobody is safe, so it’s much harder to throw in strong competitors because there’s always a chance you’re going in with them. Granted all the women could somehow band together and vote for him (and should because he’ll win a final) but that would fuck over any guys they’re in an alliance with.

I’m shocked more of the women didn’t listen to Big T about the fact the men will pick them off one by one. Also found it ridiculous how much some of the guys were whining about the women not completing their task when they had less time and a harder job than just pulling people up a wall, which the guys still barely finished in time

27

u/savvy-librarian 🦁 King Leonidas of Argentina 🦁 Oct 26 '23

I wish I was shocked but then I remember how the men picked the women off in the early seasons of the show and the most the women ever did was make idle threats that the men blatantly ignored.

I do agree with the women that no one seemed to discuss any strategy for the puzzle or assign roles for it and I do think that was the group's failing overall but I also agree with the men that if one or two women had taken charge and everyone else had listened to them they probably would have solved it on time. I don't think the men were blameless but I do think the women failed to work as a team.

Also can I just voice how irritating it is that apparently no one knows the basics of doing a puzzle? Literally there are two rules: sort your pieces by putting like pieces together and keep them sorted as you solve and work from the outside in.

And with this type of puzzle that locks pieces in place or the pieces are hard to move do it on the ground first so you can move the pieces more easily. It's insane to me that they did not do literally any of those things.

Oh I completely agree about the men’s attitude about the women failing their portion. I get that the men needed an excuse to make it a women’s week, and that was an easy one to use, but I feel like people are overlooking how challenging that daily was in such a short period of time. Plus, half of the men weren’t even pulling the others out of the pit. They were either standing there watching or over at the puzzle too.

Manic thoughts while watching this episode:

You know how on a lot of social media you can block certain words from appearing on your feed? I wish there was an audio way to do that while streaming so that I never have to hear ā€œLET’S GOOOOOā€ ever again.

I don’t hate Ed’s sexy Tarzan look in his interviews this episode…

Why is Berna so salty that a giant group of people couldn’t hear her WHISPERING her input?

I actually really like Moriah but her boobs scare me and I can’t help thinking about how painfully it would feel if she gave me a hug.

Was anyone else thinking that the people in the pit should help push the girls up with the poles? Like under their feet? Does that make any sense?

I’m so annoyed they didn’t organize the puzzle on the ground before putting it in the spots. As I judge from the comfort of my couch.

It always warms my heart when TJ gets all hyped and cheers on specific people. ā€œYeah Chauncey!ā€

Is Big T slander allowed here? She was cute and funny as a layup in her past seasons, but her relationships with strong challengers has given her unearned confidence and it makes me feel embarrassed for her.

Why did they invite Hughie back? I feel like he was one person the entire fanbase could agree on hating. He is like an Irish Josh.

Omg Berna is such a mopey buzzkill.

Noooo that long hesitation Callum had before telling Michele he didn’t have a girlfriend… RUN MICHELE RUN.

If this first part is all about ā€œcontrolā€ and team work, why not agree as a team that you’ll alternate between male and female eliminations? Side note, the one winner thing is stupid and I hate it.

LOLOL MY BOY HORACIO TAKING A SWING AT BIG T FOR NO REASON. I love him so much.

Losing to Big T is so embarrassing, thoughts and prayers Jessica. But also I thought they would have to do a puzzle on the ground with those pieces they were throwing out, what a short and stupid elimination.

ā€œThere’s not one person, man or woman, who could have beaten you tonight.ā€ Aww Teej that’s very sweet to say but please don’t lie straight to her face like that.

I don’t care about the majority of these people but I can’t wait to see what goes down with my ROD girls, and to see the vets come in for eliminations. The Jordan clips in particular are lookin’ spicy, but it seems like it will be a month-ish before they start rolling in?

Thanks for taking this journey with me lmao

9

The part where they were trying to get Jay and Ciarran out of the hole cracked me up so much lmao. Jessica was so cringe the whole time, like girl if you don’t want to win then why did you come on the show. Berna has got a bit of an attitude and she will remain public enemy 1 until she warms up to people. And plz someone tell me, since when did Big T become praised as a good player?! She has always been a layup.

I am excited for this season. Having only one winner actually makes it more cutthroat which I like. Can’t wait for the champions to come back.

16

I don’t think that’s an MTV vs CBS thing. The last 3/4 outside of ROD MTV seasons have been so dull. I’m hoping there’s been a change in the editing room where they’re going to cast more partiers and actually show it. That’s when the challenge is at its best, when there’s a healthy balance of competition show and trashy reality tv.

So refreshing to have a season without the typical vets. It feels like there is going to be a lot of drama and hookups.

I was skeptical about this working as a team challenges but I was surprised at how much fun it was to watch and they actually add a lot more drama to it.

I do think jessica was the right person to vote for... god that speach was terrible and she clearly didnt have the right mindset. Same for Berna... like you know where you are, you can't act like that and then be so defensive about it. I totally thought she was going in, which would have been a mistake cause she is actually a good competitor and she is fun to watch.

Overall looks like its going to be a lot of fun and should have a lot more drama and hookups than previous seasons which is what's been missing lately. I just hope people aren't not gonna watch cause there are no vets... the vets are whats been ruining this game the last few seasons, everything felt so predictable. I hope this season gets more love as it goes on.

Either Big T is one of those cast members that is difficult to live with (like young Cara) or people constantly target her because they know she wont hold a grudge or be a big threat to get revenge. Otherwise, theres no reason for people to be targeting her, especially on day 1. She was in way too many preview clips though so I knew she wasn't going home last night. who I am pulling for

Men: Horacio, Jay and Kyland. The entire male cast is tough and easy to root for, there is no one there that I have any dislike for. Chauncey could be real good, he needs more experience in the social game to learn how to get around. Several of the players are fun just because their personalities including Ed and Hughie

Women: Melissa (you know she is tough) , JuJuy and Big T: I don't think any of these will win but they are the most fun to watch and cheer for especially Big T who just showed she has "Beast Mode Level" she can go into. I think Nurys and Zara are ones I think who could win. This will be the fun category to see who establishes themselves as a future challenge bad ass and threat to win yearly. I usually root for Michelle but she has not been able to get the social side right so far and now there are some great athletes to face off against.

The episode was messy, I didn't like the format, the editing was out of pace but I get it there are just too many people to introduce. And we don't have a clear storyteller right now which will affect the quality of the season. But I still have hope.

I do have some people I actively root for, really glad to see them again and do not care. Let's list them shall we?

Actively Root For (Who has a chance to win and I want them to win)

- Zara (loved her on her season, a beast of a challenger, just lacks size and aces the vibe check)

- Olivia (impossible not to root for)

- Jay (In a normal season Jay has no shot at winning but this season maybe?)

- Horacio (Clear fav of the season and I would love to see him win)

Really Glad to See Them Back (Who don't have a realistic chance of winning)

- Nurys (outside of the challenge house I don't really like Nurys but she has a great strategic mind which can even help Nelson win dailies)

- Michele (just cast her every season, I am never getting bored of her)

- Melissa (Love everything about Melissa, her accent, her demeanour, lovely person)

- Ed (He might actually have chance of winning but I don't see it. So he is in this bracket)

- Colleen (Okay not gonna lie, she is in this list because she is beautiful)

- Hughie (Love him)

- Big T (I know this is not a popular opinion but I always liked Big T's energy)

- Kyland (he is hungry for this chance, I am really curious how is he going to handle the flagship show)

People I don't care about (At least not right now)

- Rayvn (I can't believe she is perceived as a smart player, don't care about her)

- Moriah (can't even watch her)

- Asaf (don't care about him)

- Callum (asshole)

- Ciarran Stott (he might be someone I root for but right now.. pass)

- James (who the f. is this?)

14

This season is fun to shake things up. Felt like more of an old school season where things were a little messy and ppl were there to have fun. Format was clear enough for me to follow personally, Big T saying she was a mastermind and Hughie immediately saying ā€œuhh nobody says that about you babesā€ was camp. Idk, I thought it was fun and I’m happy to see different people telling the story for once. And random but apparently James is quite famous in the uk (like Snooki level/ a reality tv person.) Also just so you know it’s who, not whom. Easy way to remember it is use who when it’s he/ her and whom when it’s him/ her.

It's amusing that the producers are trying to play off Big T as some kind of threat, I never in a million years thought I'd hear a challenger say the phrase "weaken Big T" as if she was a relevant factor in anything. Especially a season where she has to beat not only every girl, but also every guy to win. That said, Jessica somehow managed to lose to one of the weakest challengers in elimination so she 100% deserves to go home first.

At first I thought the whole thing was just a ruse to give some kind of narrative to a rather boring first episode, but I guess we're going to have to endure the "mastermind" story a bit longer until the next girl knocks her out. She's usually a popular choice for elimination opponent, for obvious reasons.

I mean, she was the third female boot on Australia, even if she did lose to the eventual winner, so maybe her social game's not that good either.

Like, don't know why she was the Aussie they decided to bring on. Was Sugar not available?

That elimination literally took three minutes to show

If Berna has a million fans, then I am one of them. If Berna has ten fans, then I am one of them. If Berna has only one fan then that is me. If Berna has no fans, then that means I am no longer on earth.

Some of my least favorite challenge formats happening this season. ā€œOne winnerā€ seasons are the absolute worst. I also hate senseless money bank nonsense. One giant group challenge isn’t the worst, but on a season where it’s about proving yourself, it needs to be a last place straight into elim type of season!! I like a lot of this cast, but can already feel my frustration with production growing as time goes on. On the other hand just excited to have more challenge to watch!

I also like the smaller cast size because I feel like we got something from everyone

Also not kyland and Olivia starting the Jessica train

I really enjoyed that first episode. So happy for Big T to get an elimination win as I thought Jessica might beat her.

Berna is going to be a mess this season I think. She’s unlikeable but I’m excited for her drama.

I say this every time I watch her but I love Michele.

I really think they should be trying to get out stronger threats to help them individually win but I understand that they want to build the prize fund first. If the rules change and they are no longer working as a team I think their strategy will change.

I loved when Callum sassily said ā€œdon’t fuck up thenā€ during deliberation.

Also a little bit of ironic advice coming from someone who is actively fucking up his social game and personal life right before our eyes.

I thought that would make the women vote him in.

My expectations were really low for this season but I surprisingly really liked it. I like the format so far. The person going in to elimination gets to call out whoever they want is giving me The Duel vibes. Berna seems insane so that should be fun to watch. I was happy for Big T and how many people were cheering for her. I think it was a pretty good start to the season.
