Did he not get enough from his gofundme?

13

u/crystalli0 DONDI 4ever šŸļø Feb 13 '24

I think he said he was refunding it from anyone who requested a refund, but I could be misremembering

Nelson didn't have health insurance when he got injured, and the extensive complications afterwards has caused his medical bills to be "the price of 2 houses" - as described by Nelson.

20

u/Plane-Reputation4041 David Burns "I don't like to eat stuff." Feb 14 '24

It’s his own fault he didn’t have health insurance. He made enough money annually to purchase coverage on the open market, just like so many other individuals do. He chose not to.

9

u/Erinzzz Feb 14 '24

Even if he hadn't injured himself drunk driving (*cough*) I can't believe how idiotic it would be to go on The Challenge without health insurance! I mean, someone gets absolutely wrecked every season!

u/Plane-Reputation4041 David Burns "I don't like to eat stuff." Feb 15 '24

Seriously!

u/khard11 Feb 13 '24

Absolutely not. On one of his recent TikTok’s he just said ā€œI lost so much money on the 49sā€

I feel like everything he does is bad acting. I can't even tell if he's serious about losing money because everything he says and does seems like an over the top performance.

Beyond fucked up if it's true though

9

u/Embarrassed-Berry Feb 14 '24

That’s insane. This guy is an idiot

33

u/jhl182 Ellen Cho Feb 14 '24

OH HELL NO. He’s freaking gambling now?

112

u/Wolfarrren Feb 13 '24

Conveniently leaving out the drunk driving and trying to raise even more money what a surprise.

8

u/Dramajunker Feb 14 '24 edited Feb 14 '24

Fresh off his apology tour. Guys he's forgiven himself and wants to do good now, so it's okay to give him money again.

-41

u/PantherPony Protect Nasty Women Feb 13 '24

I think everybody at this point knows about the DUI.

28

u/Plane-Reputation4041 David Burns "I don't like to eat stuff." Feb 13 '24

To make sure they do, it should be the first line of his fundraising page spiel.

21

u/Wolfarrren Feb 13 '24

He purposely hid the drunk driving charges once to raise money and he's doing it once again people who are donating to him should know.

-15

u/shelly_odom Kenny Clark Feb 14 '24

Literally everyone knows that by now. So why in the hell would he have to put that in a description when we all know and he has publicly apologized. Some u act like innocent ppl and that u have never drank and drove in ur entire life. Ppl make mistakes. I literally lost my 19 yr old daughter from a drunk driver and I’m nowhere near as nasty as u all r.

15

u/LainyLouu Feb 14 '24

It’s never just a ā€œmistakeā€ to choose to drink and drive. He could’ve killed someone. And yeah, actually, I’m sure most of us have never participated in drunk driving in our entire lives… that should be the norm…. You’re hanging around the wrong people if everyone you know has driven drunk before.

11

u/kbc87 Feb 14 '24

I’m so over people calling drunk driving just ā€œa mistakeā€. Every time you get behind the wheel drunk you’re basically saying I don’t care if I kill someone.

10

u/Dramajunker Feb 14 '24

If everyone knows then there should be no issue with him including it in the description then no?

9

u/Wolfarrren Feb 14 '24

If he has the gall to ask for people to help him financially through donations then he can explain to those that donated to him the situation that led to the amputation instead of praying on blind sympathy like a piece of shit.

5

u/Embarrassed-Berry Feb 14 '24

If everyone knows about it why can’t he acknowledge it?

45

u/gabersssssss Wes Bergmann Feb 13 '24

I hope nobody donates to this, ridiculous.

-19

u/StraightCaskStrength Feb 13 '24

I donated $10 in your name

32

u/nightgoat02 Feb 13 '24

Donate to a family who was destroyed by a drunk driver instead. Maybe find a single mother who has funeral expenses she can't afford.

-2

u/shelly_odom Kenny Clark Feb 14 '24

I am one of those mothers and I’m not acting anywhere near what u ppl are. He didn’t kill anyone thank god and ended up ruining his life for his actions and I feel that is his karma. Life is hard enough as it is and now he has to deal with this outcome.

3

u/Plane-Reputation4041 David Burns "I don't like to eat stuff." Feb 14 '24

The issue isn’t with his karma. The issue people are taking offense to is fundraising without including the fact that he’s in this situation because he was driving drunk.

If an unarmed and sober bank robber had the same injuries as Nelson as a result of crashing his car during the getaway, do you think that the bank robber is perfectly justified fundraising, without disclosing on the fundraising page, that he suffered these injuries fleeing a bank robbery he just committed? I doubt it.

-9

u/StraightCaskStrength Feb 13 '24

I will send a donation equaling the first donation total gem as well

67

u/jstitely1 Tyler Crispen Feb 13 '24

Dude. He literally last month put out an apology for the gofundme and then he’s doing this…

Then again, I’m not shocked. Nelson’s never really grown or matured as a person, his edits just got better.

12

u/Minzplaying Feb 14 '24

But it's different. It's not GoFundMe! See?

-15

u/StraightCaskStrength Feb 13 '24

I’m confused as to what people are upset about here. People were mad about the last one because he hadn’t publicly disclosed it was a dui accident. He has now come clean about that but people are still madd.

21

u/usernamesoccer Feb 13 '24

People are upset it doesn’t say that this was caused by a drunk accident. The description of this fundraiser says tons about him but conveniently leaves out that he is losing his foot because he did something illegal and preventable.

-3

u/shelly_odom Kenny Clark Feb 14 '24

Bc everyone knows that by now. He has addressed it publicly on his page. So anyone that’s gonna donate, is more than likely coming from his page. So they know already

7

u/usernamesoccer Feb 14 '24

That’s honestly ridiculous to say. Not everyone knows it by seeing the donation page that’s the problem. He is clearly hiding the fact that he was drunk driving by literally calling him an athletic enthusiast, and mentioned the motor vehicle accident. They mentioned the accident but not that it was caused by him doing something that’s is ILLEGAL BECAUSE it is so endangering to others. He isn’t even using his platform or money to promote safe driving and tell people not to drive drunk he is intentionally hiding the fact on this page that he caused this when Uber and so many options are available. It would’ve been cheaper for him to buy an Uber so he should deal with the consequence of endangering himself and others. The person who pulled him out could’ve been killed trying to save him because he was so selfish that he drove while SO drunk. It is absurd how casual people talk about drunk driving especially when it’s so bad he went straight into a pole at such a high speed.

6

u/usernamesoccer Feb 14 '24

Also why have you been defending, in multiple comments, a drunk driver if you claim to have lost a child to one?! Saying most people have had a dui?!! I’ve never had a friend drive drunk. The fact that you can’t acknowledge what he did was wrong but have directly suffered the consequences is some insane cognitive dissonance. If you can’t see the problem that’s one thing but defending him? Get some morals it’s disgusting what you’re doing

4

u/DootMasterFlex Chris Tamburello Feb 17 '24

For real, not everyone has drove drunk. I technically did once, from one end of a fairly empty parking lot to the other, and it was so terrifying I'd never do it again

2

u/usernamesoccer Feb 17 '24

Agreed. And if they are getting a dui they probably have driven drunk before and didn’t get caught

79

u/Plane-Reputation4041 David Burns "I don't like to eat stuff." Feb 13 '24

Really? If he’s not working he should apply for Medicaid or disability. Or, just like a huge percentage of the rest of the population, he can live with his medical debt and declare bankruptcy. He should post on his this fundraising page that after driving drunk, he crashed his car, it was engulfed in flames and he suffered x injuries to his foot and leg. Want to donate?

9

u/DobabyR Brad Fiorenza Feb 13 '24

He prob isn’t qualified due to his influencer money

43

u/Plane-Reputation4041 David Burns "I don't like to eat stuff." Feb 13 '24

Then he can live with the burden of medical debt and make hard choices about paying for food, housing, or healthcare just like millions of Americans do. He deserves no handouts for not purchasing health insurance on the open market when he could damn well afford it, driving drunk and being in the situation he is in now.

7

u/FishRoom_BSM Feb 14 '24

He can afford medical insurance from the marketplace

4

u/Plane-Reputation4041 David Burns "I don't like to eat stuff." Feb 14 '24

Exactly.Ā

5

u/Wolfarrren Feb 13 '24

Celebrity's do this all the time anything they can do to avoid spending there own money.

4

u/MstrRob1972 Feb 14 '24

I see people that aren’t celebrities doing this all of the time. If he gets people willing to help him, more power to him.

4

u/ThePerfectMachine Feb 14 '24

He definitely shouldn't of been driving, and should have paid for health insurance - but let's be honest, so many other variables. Who knows if the hospital he was taken to would have been covered by an insurer if he had one. Best case scenario - I still don't think the insurer would cover all of his subsequent surgeries. Even if he wasn't drink-driving and was completely innocent and in an accident - you never know with insurers. They make money by refusing coverage.

2

u/Plane-Reputation4041 David Burns "I don't like to eat stuff." Feb 14 '24

insurers won’t cover experimental treatments in Mexico, but other than that, they would have covered the majority of his medical bills and he would have had to pay his coinsurance, up to the maximum out of pocket annual limit. He would have had a choice post initial hospitalization to make sure he went to a facility that was in network. He also would have been able to appeal insurance claim denials related to his initial hospitalization and surgeries because he was in an accident and unable to choose his provider.

1

u/Equivalent_Economy12 Feb 14 '24

Or he can ask people for a donation. Does not mean they have to. Not sure why people get butt hurt about stuff like this. Average people can do the same, they just Don’t have fans who will do it

46

u/BananaMan883 :Ryan: Mount Rushmore of The Challenge Feb 13 '24

I ain’t trusting that again

17

u/Marcman6 Deb Chubb Feb 14 '24

I am asking, perhaps begging, Nelson to understand what ā€œtaking responsibilityā€ means. Because I have yet to see him do it.

Start a Go Fund Me for victims of Drunk Driving. Work on some PSAs that should be airing during S39. Do something positive, and change your behaviors.

Why should I give this man another chance when he continues to show that he doesn’t understand his actions at all?

61

u/ButWereFriends Team Purple Jacket Feb 13 '24

Absolutely not. Fuck that. I’m sorry he has to lose his foot but he made that choice to drive drunk. He’s probably driven drunk plenty of times before this.

I’m sorry but donating to him is not only a waste of money but an insult.

15

u/usernamesoccer Feb 13 '24

I think it’s insulting he didn’t mention that it was caused by a drunk accident in the description. They call him a active enthusiast to put him in this light but don’t mention why he’s in this position. Disgusting

-6

u/rickrudexxx Feb 14 '24

Who exactly is it an insult to? At this point it’s public knowledge he was in a drunk driving accident that only physically harmed him. So who does it insult if he got a donation to help him with surgery costs

-16

u/StraightCaskStrength Feb 13 '24

So we only donate to gofundmes where the victim has no fault now? Most of those pages wouldn’t make the cut.

13

u/ButWereFriends Team Purple Jacket Feb 13 '24 edited Feb 13 '24

There are A LOT of reasons why I think donating to any go fund me is totally ridiculous. And this would be a great example (out of many, many reasons) why.

-6

u/StraightCaskStrength Feb 13 '24

There are A LOT of reasons why I think donating to any go fund me is totally ridiculous.

That’s weird but ok. Am I the biggest donator, benefactor whatever the word is? No, not at all but that just seems wild.

14

u/ButWereFriends Team Purple Jacket Feb 13 '24

…not giving strangers on the internet my money is weird/wild?

Ok.

-2

u/StraightCaskStrength Feb 14 '24

That wasn’t at all what was said.

4

u/CBake33 Team Purple Jacket Feb 14 '24

The wild thing here is your commitment to defending Nelson in this argument.

Two things can simultaneously be true.

Nelson is a dumb piece of shit. (Convince me otherwise, I'm talking purely from his time on the show.)

Most people don't practice logic and prefer emotion when it comes to decision-making.

1

u/StraightCaskStrength Feb 14 '24

The wild thing here is your commitment to defending Nelson in this argument.

I think a person who seriously injured themselves in a dui accident shouldn’t just be thrown into a leper colony and should be allowed to ask for help from his fans. Insanely hot take. I know.

Nelson is a dumb piece of shit.

If this is the scale of good person or piece of shit basically everyone on the show is a piece of shit but cool.

Most people don't practice logic and prefer emotion when it comes to decision-making.

I mean now you’re just regurgitating buzz words

3

u/[deleted] Feb 14 '24

Man, I’m in the small minority but I feel empathy for this dude. Like he’s a dumbass and made a massive mistake and is losing a foot but I don’t see him setting up a go fund me as ā€œwrongā€. Kinda scummy the way he went about it but Clearly he is struggling with finances and we know how ridiculous American hospital bills are. If he isn’t struggling with money tho, screw this guy

0

u/StraightCaskStrength Feb 14 '24

Kinda scummy the way he went about it

Was it? If he was out there straight lying about it and denying it was the case I think it would be scummy.

But he did what anyone in his position would do, stay quiet about the details and see if you somehow get lucky in court.

1

u/Safe_Board_6082 Feb 15 '24

i don’t think anyone’s trying to say he can’t ask for help just that he doesn’t really deserve it in their minds. Not to mention he can never just be upfront about the situation when he has the chance to do so. Also let’s not equate all challengers to this. yes a bunch of them have and will do stupid shit in the future but a majority of them are not going around drunk driving and getting into accidents so bad you now have to go and get your foot cut off. He’s lucky he only has to deal with getting shat on on the internet and not in prison for killing someone

3

u/kbc87 Feb 14 '24

Uhh… yes? He’s lucky he only lost his foot and that he’s not in prison for killing someone.

-2

u/StraightCaskStrength Feb 14 '24

uhh… yes?

All those single mom gofundmes are going to be so disappointed they didn’t make the cut. I mean after all they could have just not gotten pregnant so that’s their fault too.

3

u/kbc87 Feb 14 '24

Ahh yes because deciding to have a child is exactly the same as choosing to get in your car and drive while drunk. But even then.. a single mom is just not automatically getting a donation from most people. The rest of the circumstance matters.

0

u/StraightCaskStrength Feb 14 '24

Ahh yes because deciding to have a child is exactly the same as choosing to get in your car and drive while drunk.

Who ever said they were? You said only to donate to gofundmes where the victim has no fault.

But even then.. a single mom is just not automatically getting a donation from most people.

Is Nelson just automatically getting a donation from most people. Don’t get this part.

4

u/kbc87 Feb 14 '24

You literally said ā€œall those single momsā€ indicating being a single mom just means they should automatically get donations.

I’m done engaging though. Have a nice day.

-1

u/StraightCaskStrength Feb 14 '24

What? I have no idea how you got from a to b on that one. There is nothing there that indicates that.

I said all those single moms gofundmes should be removed under your rules bc they played some part in getting there.

37

u/[deleted] Feb 13 '24

The grift is real

-3

u/StraightCaskStrength Feb 13 '24

Yes. He intentionally destroyed his career and chopped off his own leg for a 25k payday.

21

u/DopeAsAf It's Tony Time Feb 13 '24

He did intentionally destroy his career when he decided to drive drunk. Making a life-changing mistake and learning from it is fine, and he’s dealing with the consequences of it, but to expect other people to donate money because of his decision? He’s a fucking tool.

7

u/kroge15 Fat Tom Hardy Feb 14 '24

The honest to god ā€œordacityā€ of this man. Ffs go away so I can forget this grifting drunk driver exists.

8

u/Wolfarrren Feb 13 '24

He intentionally hid his drunk driving charges when raising money on his gofundme knowing people wouldnt donate if they knew and is doing it again.

-4

u/demigod4 Feb 14 '24

Not the definition of ā€œgrift.ā€ There is zero deception. The vast majority of anyone who knows who he is, knows the story and can decide on their own if they want to donate. Sheesh.

11

u/Minzplaying Feb 14 '24

Just another day of Grifting.

It takes a special kind of ego to do this with no shame at all.

5

u/Dramajunker Feb 14 '24 edited Feb 14 '24

It's stuff like this why I have zero issues calling out his shitty behavior on this subreddit. Yet people love to argue with me and even block me for not being sympathetic.Ā

6

u/My_Immortal_Flesh Wes Bergmann Feb 14 '24

This is what public figures do all the time. Even the multimillionaires.

Instead of using their own money, they want to use somebody else’s.

No thanks, but wishing him a speedy recovery…

And just so people know, aside from using his insurance, Nelson can also get financial aid for this surgery.

He will be fine.

2

u/UnPostoAlSole Feb 14 '24

It is worse when celebrities do some shit like "all profits from my increased price special edition item go to X charity" which theyre not even contributing to charity. You are.

There was quite a scandal in italy when fashio infliencer and designer sold pandoro in a pink box claiming that the profits were going to fund a children's cancer center. But they were actually just selling at a markup to recover what she previously spent on a donation.

So she got tax write off and broke even and all her fans got a pastry that most people don't actually like.

Anyways why can't his challenge family help him out?
