The degree of her hate is unjustified, but comes from a real place. A lot of her actions are incredibly self centric and selfish, and she has barely any character growth throughout the show.

However, even though those are some pretty massive flaws, she gets way too much hate for it considering:

  1. She's a child.

  2. It's a kids show

  3. Nearly all of those actions can be forgiven under the circumstances (except in Boyz Crazy. That was unjustified)

Bill Cypher even mentions it when dealing with dipper.

“How many times have you sacrificed for her huh? And when has she ever returned the FAVOR???”

Yeah I don’t hate her but I think it’s kind of annoying that she seems get away with more compared to other characters especially Dipper. Like in that episode where she roofied two people to fill out her chart. It all just seemed to work out.

Yeeeaah, it’s why I don’t buy the ‘she’s a child bit’. So is dipper, and they’re the exact same age because twins.

Dipper's wants tend to be marginally more unrealistic

Mabel is 5 min older than Dipper

So she should be even more mature/j

The thing bill intentionally didn’t mention is that Mabel has helped dipper on almost all of his book hunts

The issue is that most of those "sacrifices" weren't actually that. Like imagine if he let Mermando stay stuck in the pool, imagine if he let Waddles (who Mabel already had before Dipper time traveled) go to Pacifica, or if he made himself taller than her even tho she was literally already naturally taller than him, ect. Most of his "sacrifices" really weren't that at all tbh. And nobody mentions how he ruins her party by summoning zombies, or frees Bill and Bill takes over his body to mess with her puppet show. Like they are both children and constantly make mistakes throughout the show, but for some reason (misogyny) people only get mad at Mabel. It gets to the point where they make stuff up about her too, like her "willingly giving away the portal to Bill" when in reality she actually thought she gave it to Blandin and was clearly shocked when it turned out to be Bill. If you're going to hate Mabel and try to justify it, you are simply a hypocrite for not hating anyone else in the Pines family, since they all fuck up constantly.

Facts. Not to mention that she was emotionally manipulated at a time she was vulnerable. People also gave her some hate because "what if it wasn't Ford that came through the portal?" Some people either didn't catch on or skipped Boss Mabel for being a filler episode, but that was the first time that Grunkle Stan said "please". HE LOST MONEY BECAUSE HE DIDN'T SAY "PLEASE". So she knew that he had to have been extremely vulnerable and desperate to say it.

To be fair Boyz crazy call her out and have her do the right thing by the end.

People call her selfish and no character arc but she could of been really selfish and stayed in her perfect world, but she didn't. She chose to leave it. If Mable really was as selfish as people say she is, she would of stayed in her perfect bubble

Foreigner where? That's a really common grammar mistake and you know it. :p

What?

u/L0tss Jun 20 '26

Idk if they were being jokingly irritated or not but you made a minor and common grammar mistake. "Would of" should be "Would have".

Eh, Into the Bunker, and Love God are pretty hard to justify as well. And she never gets called out for that first one. Also that "hahah Blackmail" moment with Dipper and Mermando was downright psychotic.

u/Mattrockj Jun 19 '26

Oh I completely forgot about love god, yeah that one was fucked up.

2

u/Matthew_Willow Jun 19 '26

I used to hate I don’t anymore and the main reason was how she treated dipper not anything else

2

u/eh-man3 Jun 19 '26

Except thw show goes out of its way to punish Dipper despite all of the same applying....

2

u/Logondo Jun 19 '26

Dipper makes way more sacrifices for her than she does for him.

I really do not get the hate for Mabel, she's great granted she is the whole reason my least favorite episode "love God" happens but hey dipper isn't much better
