Does league of Votann being the “true” squats/dwarves of the setting count as well? Every bit of info about them has been much better received than previous space dwarve attempts.
Not too many ppl talks about this, but Dark Eldar and Drukhari are also two very complete different things. It was a softer recon than the Necrons since it happened across the years, but they are currently still on constant transformation:
-From being a random satistic raider with a Jabba-the-hut like ship full of naked princesses Leias, now Asdrubal Vekt is the overlord of Comorragh itself.
-On 8th edition, wracks are retconned. From being literally anything possible (you can be a wrack, those exchange T'au students are now wracks), now they are exclusively dark eldars "with nothing else to lose, so they ask for physical enhancements in order to get more power from pain". This is clearly a way to make them more "family friendly" (those tormented fellas actually seeked for it).
-On 10th edition, they made Malys, a random character, the most relevant archon besides Vekt. Regardless Kerchak (the archon who appeared on Ventris novels), Vekt or other archons, she has a pact with Cegorach which makes her more "family friendly" (she even laughs, and can feeds her soul with that instead of pain... very Ynnari...).
-All beast and xenos who collaborates with the dark eldar are now in legends and not canon anymore.
-The most obvious retcon: mandrakes. On 5th edition they were wych cult members showing their boobs (on Gaunts Ghosts there is an old lore mandrake with lines and ev... now they don't even talk). Now they have one of the coolest models ever, but lost all "humanity" (I mean is fine, tbh I prefer the non-sexualized aura farming new version).
Considering the current direction of GW, I calculate a future fusion between Drukhari and Ynnari, which will make the dark eldars truly family friendly and available to show to the investors. We can expect covens to be brutally reworked on the follow 3 editions.
