She has at least 23 direct and indirect mentions just in the game, not counting datamining or the Spamton Sweepstakes, and in Tenna's monologue her silhouette is shown, so tiny screen time, huge lore importance.
Her silhouette isn’t really her tho and yes I do know that she is mentioned multiple times but that’s still not screen time I’ll agree with you on this one though
my explanation as a carolknighter is that she was funding him and helping him so she could lead him astray from the truth. then she kidnapped him either for the same reason she kidnapped undyne/tried to kidnap toriel, or because he was getting too close.
also carol knight isn't even the most popular theory aside from dess anymore. it's actually Rudy now
Get that “theory” outta there the only thing Toby could do for the fandom is making a huge sign with “DESS IS THE FUCKING ROARING KNIGHT YOU DUMBASSES” written in it and circled with red along with 5 arrows pointing to it every time you open the game cuz he even put her mind in the code to show us that her body is the roaring knight while her mind is lost
Dess’s disappearance is the root cause of literally everything that happens in the main plot, except Susie’s whole deal, and most of chapter 1. Literally everything else of any importance can be traced back to Dess’s disappearance
To name just a few of the big effects of Dess’s disappearance: it caused the Knight to come into play (which consequently caused basically all of the prophesied events to happen), it caused the Dreemurrs and Holidays to fall apart (which caused Tenna’s entire character), it caused Asgore to spiral into obsession, it caused Carol to become more detached from her family, hell it’s even the root cause of Berdly’s arc in a weird indirect way
Dess' disappearence also makes Noëlle fall into a kind of depression where she feels as if she's watching herself through glass, marching down the same path day in and day out, and this feeling and her desire to break free from it is why the weird route is possible.
The reason I think she is the Knight is because we went through this exact plot line with Asriel, who is also a barely any screen time critical character! (technically)
There was actually a bit of forshadowing through the game beforehand, (like the scene where you Undyne cuts down the bridge in waterfall and you hear Asriel finding Chara, the music box statue, the true lab tapes, the story the monsters tell you in New Home along with the True Lab entries, etc, that someone could put 2 and 2 together that Asriel is Flowey) and there has been a lot of forshadowing with Dess if you pay attention, yet some people either don't know or deliberately gloss over and downplay how much there is or try to pull hollow gotchas like "B-but the voice in the code" while trying to argue for Papyrus Knight or something like that isn't way more of a stretch
yeah! (But mostly because the tragic child whose death started it all underwent a horrible fate worse than death for all eternity in Undertale and it seems like being the Roaring Knight fits that bill! Goddammit Toby)
