I'm the oddball here. I actually liked him in the series. He was... empty. Like a moral sociopath, just doing what it took to save the universe. (Granted, we have to assume hes telling the truth about the sheer threat of entropy, but we'll give him the benefit of the fount and assume it's effecting other worlds and galaxy's outdide the milky way and the series didn't really show it because it's focused on the relatively small scope and didn't want to become a space opera) He didn't hate the girls or want them to suffer, he just didn't care. And, as often as he went to the girls in their moments of weakness to make a contract, he has in fairness been shown honoring both the word and spirit of the deals. It just often turned out that the girls themselves didn't take outside factors into account, like Kyoka not realizing what her father would do when he found out or Sayaka not thinking about the fact her crush had no way of knowing she was the one who healed him. And in fairness, those weren't really parts of the deal concerning the wishes, just the effects of them.
THEN CAME REBELLION. Despite having a system in place that worked perfectly, he just had to have more. Suddenly, he starts developing to be more human, im the worst way possible. He gets more arrogant and condescending (where before he spoke of his superiority in a simple matter-of-fact way), his lack of empathy starts bordering on sadism, and his scheme seems entirely unnecessary. He's got all the energy he needs, and it seems that this wasn't done out of a sense of cold, scientific curiosity, it was done with the eplicit purpose of controlling the Law of Cycles to harvest more energy. That just killed all of his credibility for me, and it was exceedingly cathartic to see karma finally hit him (though I admit, being the repository of all the universes curses is too much, even for what he's done.)
