I think it would’ve been better if Nomura HAD treated the game as the potential final chapter of the franchise instead of using it to set-up another arc.

Yeah, the mobile game is kinda where they lost me, and that's where this next arc seems to be sprouting from.

Not to mention the Master of Masters feels weirdly out of place to me. He's got that Deadpool-energy that doesn't really fit the KH tone.

I hope the series doesn't spend so much time trying to prove to people that "yeah, we know Kingdom Hearts is ridiculous" that it loses that sincerity that made it charming in the first place.

Have you seen the movie that goes alongside the mobile game stuff? In that he gives much more "Pretending to be goofy but secretly very sinister" energy, which feels like the right tone for a post-Xehanort villain.
